Abstract

Background: Complete basic immunization is a key public health strategy to prevent infectious diseases in infants, yet immunization coverage remains below national targets in several regions. Various maternal, familial, and service-related factors are believed to influence the implementation of complete basic immunization. This study aimed to analyze factors associated with the implementation of complete basic immunization among infants at the Cempaka 2 Integrated Health Post, Andalas Village. A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted involving mothers with infants aged 0–11 months. All eligible participants were included using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using structured questionnaires assessing maternal characteristics, attitudes, family support, and health service factors. Statistical analysis was performed using bivariate analysis followed by multivariate logistic regression to identify dominant influencing factors. Results: The findings indicated that several maternal and social factors were associated with the implementation of complete basic immunization. Maternal age, education level, attitude toward immunization, and family support showed significant associations with immunization completeness, while maternal occupation, knowledge level, and perceived quality of health services were not significantly associated. Multivariate analysis identified maternal age as the most dominant factor influencing the implementation of complete basic immunization. The implementation of complete basic immunization is influenced by a combination of maternal and family-related factors. Strengthening health education, fostering positive maternal attitudes, and enhancing family support are essential strategies to improve immunization coverage among infants.

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is the optimal source of nutrition for infants, providing balanced nutrients essential for growth and development. However, exclusive breastfeeding coverage in several regions remains below national targets. In Patrang District, Jember Regency, only 45.60% of infants aged 0–6 months received exclusive breastfeeding in 2021, far below the 80% target set for 2022. One contributing factor is the limited knowledge of postpartum mothers regarding breast care, which affects milk expression and production. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of galactagogue intervention in the form of edamame soy milk and oxytocin massage in increasing breast milk production among postpartum mothers. This study employed an experimental research design with a two-group pretest–posttest approach. The respondents were postpartum mothers who met the inclusion criteria and were divided into two intervention groups: the oxytocin massage group and the edamame soy milk group. The independent variables were oxytocin massage and edamame soy milk consumption, while the dependent variable was breast milk production. Breast milk production was measured indirectly through changes in infant body weight before and after the interventions. Data were analyzed using the dependent t-test. The results showed a significant increase in breast milk production in both intervention groups. In the oxytocin massage group, there was a statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest measurements. Similarly, the edamame soy milk group demonstrated a significant increase in infant weight after the intervention, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect on breast milk production. In conclusion, both oxytocin massage and edamame soy milk were effective in increasing breast milk production among postpartum mothers. These findings suggest that non-pharmacological interventions can be applied as supportive strategies to improve exclusive breastfeeding outcomes. Health workers are encouraged to incorporate breast care education and nutritional interventions into postpartum care to help increase exclusive breastfeeding rates.

Abstract

Antioxidants play an important role in counteracting free radicals that can damage body cells. Indonesia has a wide variety of natural antioxidant sources, including fig fruit (Ficus carica) and red grapes (Vitis vinifera), which are rich in polyphenol and flavonoid compounds. To determine the antioxidant activity of these fruits, the DPPH method is used because it is simple, rapid, and accurate in measuring the ability of compounds to scavenge free radicals. This study aimed to determine the extraction method for fig fruit (Ficus carica) and red grapes (Vitis vinifera), as well as to analyze the polyphenol antioxidant content of both fruits using the DPPH method. This research was an experimental laboratory study. The results showed that the extraction of fig fruit (Ficus carica) and red grapes (Vitis vinifera) was carried out using the maceration method. This method was chosen because it is simple, easy to perform, requires readily available equipment, and is effective in maintaining the stability of heat-sensitive active compounds, making it suitable for extracting polyphenol compounds. Based on the results of the antioxidant activity test using the DPPH method, the fig fruit extract of the Iraqi variety showed an IC₅₀ value classified as very strong antioxidant activity, while the red grape extract of the Red Globe variety showed an IC₅₀ value classified as strong according to the Blois classification. These results indicate that both fruits contain polyphenol compounds with antioxidant potential, with higher antioxidant activity observed in fig fruit compared to red grapes.
