Abstract

Batam City is a city known as the gateway to free trade in Indonesia, continuing to improve itself from time to time. A number of strategic infrastructure projects were then worked on to encourage economic growth, and increase Batam's competitiveness with regions in Indonesia and other countries such as Malaysia and Singapore. Historically, various supporting infrastructures have been built since this area was developed as an industrial area. Starting from highways, ports, to airports that were deliberately built to attract investment. However, the massive development of Batam now also demands development according to the times. The results of this study are used to analyze how infrastructure and transportation can contribute to the development of Batam City from an economic, social, and environmental perspective. With a qualitative approach and SWOT analysis, this study evaluates the influence of government policies, private investment, and the influence of infrastructure development on the competitiveness of Batam City. The results of the study show that investment in road, port, and airport infrastructure has increased connectivity that can drive the city's economic growth globally. The sustainable and competitive growth of Batam City requires a more targeted strategy in the development of infrastructure and transportation. The use of data-based technology such as GIS can help in more accurate planning, while the integration of public transportation systems will increase efficiency and comfort for the community.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors that determine employee performance at PT Ezar Jaya Resources. The factors studied include competence, work culture, and job satisfaction, both partially and simultaneously on employee performance. The research method used is a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of the study show that competence has a significant influence on employee performance. Employees with higher competencies tend to have better work productivity and are able to complete tasks efficiently. In addition, work culture also plays a role in shaping a conducive work environment, where employees who work in a positive culture are more motivated and show high loyalty to the company. Job satisfaction was also found to be an important factor that had an impact on employee enthusiasm and dedication at work. Employees who are satisfied with the compensation system, work environment, and career development opportunities show more optimal performance. Further analysis revealed that competence, work culture, and job satisfaction simultaneously had a greater influence on employee performance than if these factors were analyzed separately. Therefore, companies need to manage these three factors effectively to increase the productivity and competitiveness of companies in the plantation industry.

Abstract

This research discusses the phenomenon of early marriage that occurs in Pinayungan Village, Karawang Regency, by highlighting the imbalance between legal norms and social norms prevailing in the community. Although legal regulations, such as Law No. 16 of 2019 and PERMA No. 5 of 2019, have regulated the minimum age of marriage and marriage dispensation procedures for the protection of children's rights, the practice of early marriage is still rampant. Through a juridical-sociological approach and qualitative method, this study explores the sociocultural factors behind early marriage, including the belief in the "itung-itungan" tradition and parents' concerns about promiscuity. Interviews with the Religious Affairs Office and one of the children who married early show that social norms in the community take precedence over formal state legal norms. This phenomenon reinforces the concept of "living law" proposed by Eugen Ehrlich. In addition to violating positive law, the practice of early marriage also causes violations of various children's rights guaranteed by the Child Protection Law and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, such as the right to education, health, decent work, and the right to grow and develop optimally. This study recommends the need for a culture-based legal approach to encourage the effective implementation of child protection and prevention of early marriage.

Abstract

This study analyzes the role of the media in shaping public opinion ahead of the 2024 Presidential Election, focusing on the Maghrib adhan broadcast featuring Ganjar Pranowo on MNC Group television station in September 2023. This phenomenon raises polemics regarding media independence, given that MNC Group is owned by Hary Tanoesoedibjo, chairman of the Perindo Party who supports Ganjar as a presidential candidate. The broadcast is considered an attempt at identity politics to build a politician's image. This research uses a critical paradigm with a qualitative descriptive approach, combining Stuart Hall's encoding-decoding theory and Roland Barthes' semiotics to analyze the political symbols in the broadcast. Data collection was done through in-depth interviews, observation, and literature study. The results show that political shows are not taken for granted by the audience, but through a decoding process that is influenced by their social and cultural background. The media, in this case RCTI, utilizes symbols and narratives to shape the image of politicians, although the meaning received by the audience varies, depending on their decoding position. This finding confirms the role of the media as a tool of domination in shaping public opinion and creating political hegemony, which risks reducing the objectivity and independence of the media in a democracy.

Abstract

In this study, attention is given to the strategies PT Vale Indonesia Tbk uses to handle security and conflict management when tackling land disputes and resource security problems in East Luwu, South Sulawesi. Even with protective measures set in place, such as security policies, forums, and CSR, disagreements remain between the company and local people. Combining Constructivism and the Right to Development, this study investigates the role of conflicts, which may not only be caused by weak laws or processes, but also by disagreements over meaning, old grievances, and beliefs of injustice. I conducted semi-structured interviews with leaders, NGO activists, people from PT Vale, and government officials, in addition to examining documents and paying attention during meetings and observational activities. It is shown that the strategies listed by PT Vale do not fully line up with the experiences of indigenous and local communities. A lot of people consider security to be suppressive, and many think that government engagement initiatives are not inclusive enough. It is often believed that CSR schemes are meant to balance things, rather than truly transform them. This research introduces the idea of corporate conflict management being grounded in norms and cultures, stressing the relevance of being legitimate, including everyone’s voice, and respecting cultural backgrounds. It states that the best way to resolve conflicts sustainably is to go from technocratic rule to shared governance and focusing on rights. If extractive activities are carried out without this transformation, they may keep causing resistance and unrest in East Luwu.

Abstract

Islamic law has an important position as a legal system that is not only derived from divine revelation, but also reflects the moral and spiritual values of Muslims. This study aims to describe the characteristics of Islamic law by examining in depth the conceptual differences between Islamic law, sharia, and fiqh, and tracing its main sources, namely the Qur'an and hadith. In addition, this paper also discusses the characteristics of Islamic law which are flexible, justice-oriented, and able to adapt to the social dynamics of society. The implementation of Islamic law in Indonesia is an additional focus in this article, considering the diversity of legal systems in Indonesia that allow Islamic law to coexist with national law, especially in aspects of family law and sharia economics. Through a descriptive-analytical approach, this article concludes that Islamic law has great potential to become an inclusive and contextual legal solution, as long as it is understood proportionally in accordance with its normative and historical foundations. Thus, a comprehensive understanding of the characteristics of Islamic law is needed to strengthen its role in the national legal system and the lives of contemporary Muslim society.

Abstract

This study aims to develop learning media based on virtual tours of local products in Lebak Regency and measure its effectiveness in improving media literacy and understanding of social studies learning concepts of elementary school students. The method used was an experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design, involving 64 grade IV students who were divided into two groups: an experimental group that used virtual tour media and a control group that used conventional learning methods. The virtual tour media is designed to introduce Lebak's local products, such as handicrafts, typical foods, and the production process, so that students can learn interactively without distance and time restrictions. Data was obtained through media literacy tests, social studies comprehension tests, observation sheets, and student response questionnaires. Data analysis was carried out using parametric statistical tests, including normality tests, homogeneity, independent sample t-tests, and normalized gain analysis (N-Gain). The results showed that the experimental group experienced a significant increase in media literacy and social studies comprehension compared to the control group. In addition, students in the experimental group responded positively to the use of virtual tour media. The virtual tour media has proven to be effective not only to increase students' understanding of the learning material, but also to strengthen their appreciation of local wisdom. The recommendation for further research is the development of similar media that can be implemented in other subjects with different local contexts.

Abstract

This study discusses the effectiveness of the school driving program in North Kalimantan province based on the Decree of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Number 371/M/2021 concerning the School Driving Program. This program includes interventions in five domains, namely consultative and asymmetric assistance, strengthening school human resources, learning with a new paradigm, data-based planning, and school digitalization. In North Kalimantan itself, this program has been implemented from 2021 to 2024 before its implementation ended in early 2025. This study uses a qualitative research method by observing the implementation of this program in North Kalimantan province. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of the school driving program in North Kalimantan province has not been effective. This is due to the difficulty of access to several schools and the slow adjustment of teaching staff to the independent curriculum implemented by the government.
