Abstract

The present community service was aimed to socialize techniques for preparing citrus planting materials in the ecotourism activist community at Pajagan Village, Cisitu District, Sumedang Regency. The socialization was attended by 30 people who were a combination of academics, representatives of Pajagan village-owned enterprise (Bumdes), and ecotourism activists whose daily professions are farmers in the Cipicung farmer group, Pajagan. To produce citrus planting material, grafting is a prerequisite vegetative propagation technique for obtaining standardized tangerine planting material. Grafted seedlings are more recommended than seed originated seedling, because of flower quickly, resistant to damping off, pests and diseases. Grafting is performed to connect the upper stem/scion of a tangerine cv. Siam Madu with superior fruit characteristics and the lower stem/rootstock of a sour rough lemon (Citrus jambhiri). It is hoped that this outreach activity can grow public interest and knowledge in producing planting material independently in the future.

Abstract

COVID-19 pandemic, which lasted from 2020 to 2022, has affected the global economy. Activity restrictions had hampered the progress of various business sectors. As a result, there was a decline in economic growth globally. There was even an economic contraction of -13.7% in 2020 and many businesses experienced either setbacks or bankruptcies. Indonesia’s government made various recovery efforts, such as business assistance through village-owned enterprises (BUMDes) activities and capital assistance for MSMEs in the form of people’s business credit (Kredit Usaha Rakyat/KUR). Various trainings and assistance were conducted, but these activities focused more on reporting and administration of funds. The establishment of BUMDes mainly aims to improve the villages’ economy. The selection of BUMDes' mainstay business is highly important to realize the smooth running of the business chosen. For this reason, it is necessary to conduct training on how to select of the mainstay business and calculate the feasibility of the business chosen to be developed so that BUMDes and MSME actors can manage and develop their business properly. The selection can use SWOT analysis, namely by analyzing the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of the potential business options. In this community services activity, BUMDes and MSME training was held in Bogorejo Village, Pesawaran Regency, Lampung Province. The results of SWOT analysis reveal that the feasible business options are digital financial services (BRI-Link), agricultural trading (waserda), and waste collection and waste bank. Waserda business aims to help market the local community's products. Waste management business economically generates small profits, but has long-term positive effects, both environmentally and socially. Meanwhile, tourism park and savings and loan are considered not feasible in the long-term, as these businesses are susceptible to bottlenecks and large losses so that they must be managed very carefully.

Abstract

Children in Sungai Pisang Village have a low interest in Al-Qur’an recitation because many of them prefer to play rather than learn the Al-Qu’ran. One of the factors causing the low interest of children in Sungai Pisang Village in reciting the Al-Qur’an is the shortage of teachers or facilitators so that the children feel bored waiting for their turn to recite the Al-Qur’an. For that reason, this community services activity aims to improve the children's ability to recite the Al-Qur’an in Sungai Pisang Village by participating in teaching the Al-Qur’an recitation. The methods used were observation and face-to-face mentoring. Observation was conducted by visiting Al-Qur’an learning center (TPA) at Nurul Bahar Mosque and collecting information from teachers regarding the children's interest in reciting the Al-Qur’an in this place. The activity implementation comprised reading and reciting hijaiyah letters, learning the length and shortness of recitation, reading short passage, and didikan subuh (activities to educate children about fundamental virtues of Islam). Partners in this activity were teachers and children who recite the Al-Qur’an in Sungai Pisang Village. The results of this activity can help teachers to improve the learning process of Al-Qur’an recitation for children at Nurul Bahar Mosque’ TPA, which is indicated by the number of students who have improved their ability to read and recite the Al-Qur’an, namely 35 children or 70% of total participants.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the public health issues requiring special attention, particularly in Banyuurip Village, Kedamean Subdistrict, Gresik Regency. Based on a preliminary survey, it was found that community awareness regarding hypertension management remains low, while the utilization of local herbal remedies has not been optimized. This community service program aims to enhance public understanding of the benefits of starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi) juice and lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) stems as natural antihypertensive agents, as well as to provide training on their processing and usage. The activities were conducted on Thursday, January 18, 2024, targeting the women of the Family Welfare Empowerment (PKK) group. The program included health education, training on the preparation of starfruit juice and lemongrass stems, and monitoring the impact of these herbal remedies on the blood pressure of participating residents. Evaluations were carried out through pre-tests and post-tests to measure participants’ knowledge levels, as well as blood pressure measurements before and after the use of the herbal products. The results showed a significant increase in community understanding of hypertension and the benefits of local herbal remedies. Furthermore, most participants experienced a reduction in blood pressure after regularly consuming the herbal products introduced during the program. This initiative demonstrated that education and training in processing local herbal resources can be an effective strategy for improving public health. The utilization of starfruit and lemongrass as alternative treatments for hypertension is not only cost-effective but also supports community health independence.

This article provides an overview of a training program aimed at introducing the production of briquettes from rice husks and tapioca flour in Braja Indah Village. The program was carried out in three stages: the survey process, product preparation, and training activities. This article adopts a qualitative approach with a descriptive-explanatory model. The outcome of the program was the production of briquettes capable of igniting successfully. Through this training, the community gained new insights and information on managing rice husk waste into more beneficial products, thereby reducing rice husk waste that could otherwise contribute to environmental pollution.
