Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of historical thinking construction in courses within the History Education Study Program at Simalungun University. Historical thinking is an essential skill that history students must master, encompassing the understanding of chronology, cause-effect analysis, and the interpretation of historical events' meaning in the context of the past and their relevance to the present. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through observations, interviews with lecturers and students, and document analysis such as syllabi and coursework. The findings indicate that the implementation of historical thinking is not yet fully optimal. Most teaching focuses on memorizing the chronology of events, figures, and places without involving in-depth analysis or connecting events to broader contexts. For instance, common assignments include summarizing readings or creating concept maps, which tend to insufficiently challenge students' skills in interpretation and critical thinking. However, in some courses, such as Indonesian History, lecturers have made efforts to use reflective approaches, such as analytical discussions on the impact of colonialism on local social dynamics. The main obstacles identified are a lack of in-depth understanding of the concept of historical thinking among both lecturers and students, as well as limited access to relevant and contextual learning resources. Therefore, this study recommends developing training for lecturers on implementing historical thinking-based teaching strategies, increasing access to learning resources that support historical analysis, and designing more challenging assignments to enhance students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the interest in learning history among students of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 2 Model and its implications for their cultural awareness. Interest in learning history is considered a crucial factor in shaping students' understanding of cultural values and national identity. The study employs a descriptive quantitative approach using survey methods to measure students' interest in history lessons and the relationship between this interest and their cultural awareness. The results show that students with a high interest in learning history have a deeper understanding of traditional values, local wisdom, and Nusantara culture. Conversely, low interest in history learning tends to result in a lack of appreciation for the nation's cultural richness. These findings highlight the importance of innovation in history teaching methods, such as narrative-based approaches, interactive multimedia, and integrating local cultural values into the curriculum. Thus, increasing interest in history learning can significantly contribute to strengthening cultural awareness among students at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 2 Model.

Abstract

This study explores the concepts of love and empathy in Islamic education through hadith perspectives, focusing on understanding their profound role in supporting learning processes and interpersonal relationships. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the research analyzes hadiths containing messages of love and empathy to identify and categorize key insights. The findings underscore the critical importance of love and empathy as essential elements in educational practice, particularly within Islamic educational frameworks that prioritize noble character development. These values contribute to creating supportive and conducive learning environments where students feel genuinely valued and understood. By fostering mutual respect, enhancing learning effectiveness, and strengthening social connections, love and empathy emerge as transformative principles that fundamentally shape students' character and personal growth. The research ultimately argues that integrating these compassionate values into Islamic education is not merely a pedagogical strategy but a fundamental approach to nurturing holistic, emotionally intelligent, and morally grounded individuals.

Abstract

The Modernization and globalization are proof of the development and progress of human civilization that occurred in the 20th century. Advances in information technology, the occurrence of global development and progress, to paradigm shifts that occur in all sectors of life, are of particular concern to Indonesia, especially for Islamic education. Islamic education faces great challenges with the entry of foreign cultures through easy access to information technology and social media, which then has a negative impact on students in schools. In the end, the level of juvenile delinquency is increasing. In this study, researchers attempted to formulate a concept of Islamic education learning by using the Turjuman al Quran method as a method of understanding character education to students. Turjuman has several steps as a way to understand the Quran. The result is that the teacher has the task of determining the character education materials contained in the Quran, then using the Turjuman method in providing understanding to students at school.

Abstract

This study aims to examine how Islamic values are integrated into chemistry learning through a contextual approach at the Chemistry Education Study Program of Universitas Islam Sumatera Utara. Using a qualitative case study method, data were collected through interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis involving lecturers, students, and program administrators. The analysis focuses on how religious values are embedded within the learning process. Integration occurs through various strategies, including the use of instructional materials that reference Quranic verses and hadiths, contextual case studies with real-life relevance, group-based reflections, and character-oriented assessments. A contextual learning approach—particularly problem-based learning and the use of Islamic-themed teaching media—is employed to bridge scientific concepts with students’ religious and everyday experiences. Findings indicate that this model encourages student engagement and supports the internalization of values such as honesty, social responsibility, and care for the environment. The integration of Islamic values is not merely additive but becomes an integral part of students’ cognitive and affective learning experiences. This study contributes to the discourse on faith-based education by offering a model for combining religious and scientific knowledge in higher education. It underscores the potential of contextual learning to foster both academic understanding and character development, in line with Indonesia’s educational vision that promotes intellectual achievement alongside moral and spiritual formation.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the internalization of Islamic values through educational play activities at Babussalam Kisaran Private Kindergarten. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, the research involved 10 early childhood education teachers and was conducted over a three-month period. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that educational play activities—such as Islamic role-play, Islamic-themed educational games, and singing Islamic songs—serve as effective mediums for value transmission. The core Islamic values internalized include faith (iman), worship (ibadah), moral conduct (akhlak), and social interaction. Teachers utilized various strategies including role modeling, Islamic storytelling, positive reinforcement, and interactive play-based approaches tailored to the developmental stages of early childhood learners. A key contribution of this study lies in its practical demonstration of how Islamic character education can be innovatively embedded into daily play activities in PAUD (Early Childhood Education), offering a culturally relevant and pedagogically sound model. Despite its promising findings, the study is limited to a single institution and a relatively short observation period, suggesting the need for broader and longitudinal research in future studies.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of families, particularly parents, in supporting Islamic religious education for early childhood at Ar Raudhah Kindergarten in Kisaran. Using a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving eight parents of students enrolled at the school. The findings reveal that parents demonstrate a strong commitment to religious education by consistently modeling worship practices, facilitating religious discussions at home, and actively engaging in school-based religious programs. A unique insight from this study is the emergence of home-based collaborative religious routines, such as shared Qur’an reading sessions and family prayer schedules, which reinforce the teachings from school in a familial context. Additionally, the research highlights the presence of mutual reinforcement between the family and the institution, enabling a more holistic and continuous religious learning experience. This dynamic collaboration underscores the pivotal role families play in shaping children’s spiritual foundations from an early age.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze calligraphy learning strategies in fostering students’ creativity and strengthening their love for the Qur'an at Daarul Hikmah Islamic Boarding School. This research is important because studies specifically examining the integration of calligraphy learning with the development of creativity and students’ emotional attachment to the Qur'an in Islamic boarding schools remain limited. This study employed a qualitative approach using a field research method. Data were collected through observations, interviews with the principal, calligraphy teachers, and students, as well as documentation. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the calligraphy learning strategy was implemented through three main stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation. In the planning stage, teachers prepared the curriculum, annual programs, weekly programs, and syllabus adapted to the boarding school context. In the implementation stage, teachers applied demonstration methods combined with lectures, direct practice, projector-based learning media, and assistance from teaching assistants to support students’ understanding. The evaluation stage was conducted through daily assessments, weekly tests, and final examinations for each khat style. The findings also show improvements in students’ creativity, particularly in originality of design, neatness of writing, accuracy of letter structure, and students’ confidence in producing calligraphic works. In addition, students demonstrated increased enthusiasm for reading, memorizing, and appreciating verses of the Qur'an through calligraphy activities. These findings imply that structured calligraphy learning can contribute to the development of artistic skills and support Qur'anic appreciation among students in Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role and strategies of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) teachers in fostering students’ noble character (akhlakul karimah) through Islamic communication culture at SDIT Cendekia, Padang Pariaman, West Sumatra, Indonesia. Previous studies have generally discussed character education in schools; however, limited research specifically examines how Islamic communication culture is integrated into daily learning interactions and school activities as a strategy for strengthening students’ moral character. This study employed a qualitative research method using observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation techniques. The findings indicate that IRE teachers play important roles as educators, facilitators, counselors, and role models in developing students’ character. The dominant forms of Islamic communication identified in this study include polite verbal interaction, greeting habits (salam culture), persuasive advice, exemplary speech, and personal guidance based on Islamic values. These strategies were implemented through value internalization, uswah hasanah (exemplary behavior), habituation of positive actions, and contextual learning integrated into school culture. The results also show that consistent Islamic communication practices contribute to improving students’ discipline, respect, honesty, and social responsibility. This study implies that strengthening Islamic communication culture can serve as an effective approach for character education in elementary schools and contributes to the development of Islamic-based pedagogical practices in character formation.

Abstract

This study investigates the adaptation of MAS Miftahussalam madrasah management to the challenges of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 in Islamic Religious Education (PAI). Previous studies have largely discussed digital transformation in general education institutions, while limited research specifically examines innovative and sustainable management practices in Islamic madrasahs. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the role of madrasah management, supporting and inhibiting factors, and strategies implemented to strengthen digital-based learning and administration. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method using a field study approach through observations, interviews, and documentation. Data were collected from the madrasah principal, curriculum staff, and PAI teachers, supported by institutional documents such as lesson plans and learning modules. The findings reveal that MAS Miftahussalam has integrated digital technology into both administrative and instructional processes through the use of Quizizz, Canva AI, online examinations, digital attendance systems, and barcode-based tuition payment services. In learning activities, teachers applied interactive digital quizzes, Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)-based discussions, and educational social media content to strengthen students’ moral values. However, several challenges remain, particularly limited digital literacy among some teachers and technical infrastructure constraints. This study contributes to the development of innovative and sustainable madrasah management models that support effective adaptation to the digital era and enhance the quality of Islamic education.
