This action research study comprised two cycles and included 25 students from Class VII E at SMP Muhammadiyah Imogiri, Yogyakarta. The study involved one English teacher as a collaborator and the researcher herself. Qualitative data was collected for this study. However, the qualitative data was gathered through observations of the teaching and learning process during the action implementation, as well as interviews conducted with the students and the collaborator regarding the implementation actions. Moreover, the qualitative data took the form of field notes and transcripts of the interviews. The findings of this study indicate that the utilization of the CANVA application is an effective method for improving students' writing skills, as supported by the analysis of qualitative data. The learning process became more engaging, and the students actively enjoyed the writing process. Abstract

There is paucity of freedom in the area of reproductive health in patriachal communities which leads to domestic violence. This study looked at the socio-cutural factors and other perculiarities of reproductive health freedom and domestic violence in Ibibioland, South-South Nigeria. With feminism as the theoretical drift, the study utilized interviews and other qualitative methods to elicit data from participants recruited through a multi-staged sampling technique. Simple percentage was the instrument for presentation of socio-demographic statistics of study participants. Emerging data from the largely qualitative work shows that issues of reproductive health freedom and domestic violence mainly border on social power relations against the female gender and cultural worldviews. Since the situation is culturally constructed, the study argues that legal framing and international declarations should be domesticated with vigour. This should be with a view to criminalizing counters to such laws and declartions.

Abstract

: One of the language components is writing, and the skill of writing short stories is a part of learning Indonesian, as well as being a literary work in the form of narrative prose with relatively short stories. Although Indonesian language subject teachers have tried to teach their students by using various learning models to improve short story writing skills, the expected learning outcomes are difficult to achieve. But it is believed that improving students' short story writing skills can be improved by teaching them with problem-based learning models assisted by media images. The purpose of this study was to reveal students' writing skills in short story texts before and after being taught with the Problem Based Learning learning model with the Assistance of Picture Media. This study used an experimental method, the respondents were a group of students who were given a pretest before being given treatment, namely learning with this learning model and after that they were given a posttest. The source of the research data was a study group of class VIII students of SMP (junior high school) N 4 Lahewa. The results of the study concluded that there was a significant increase in students' short story writing skills after being taught with the problem-based learning model assisted by media images. Before being taught with this learning model, students' short story writing skills were in the poor category, whereas after being taught with this learning model, their skills in writing were in the very good category. So it is suggested to Indonesian language subject teachers to use this learning model to improve students' ability to write short story texts

Abstract

The study investigated utilization of school plants and effective teaching and learning in a contemporary society. Two objectives, two research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. A correlational research method was employed in carrying out the study. The population of the study comprised of six thousand eight hundred and ninety-three (6,893) teachers from all the 286 public senior secondary schools in Rivers State. The stratified random sampling technique was used to select seven hundred (700) teachers from ten (10) schools in 12 out of the 23 local government areas representing 10% of the population. The instrument for this study was a questionnaire which was divided into two sections titled “Utilization of School Plants Questionnaire (USPQ)” and “Utilization of School Plant and Effective Teaching and Learning (USPETL)”. Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to obtain the reliability of 0.81.  Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to test the hypothesis at 0.05% confidence level. The findings revealed that there is a significant relationship between utilization of school plants and effective teaching and learning. The study therefore concluded that utilization of school plants by teachers for effective teaching and learning, increases students’ level of assimilation and contribute greatly to the achievement of educational goals in a contemporary society.
