Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of implementing Problem-Based Learning (PBL) integrated with Augmented Reality (AR) in improving students’ risk analysis skills in the Structural Physics course at the State Polytechnic of Ambon. The research background is grounded in the importance of active learning strategies and interactive visual tools in bridging abstract concepts such as stress, load, and potential structural failure. A quasi-experimental approach with a one-group pretest–posttest design was employed. The research subjects consisted of 30 fourth-semester students from the Civil Engineering study program. Data were collected through pretests and posttests, PBL activity observations, questionnaires on perceptions of AR, and learning documentation. The results indicate a significant improvement in students’ risk analysis skills after participating in PBL–AR-based learning. The t-test results showed a p-value < 0.05, while the N-Gain scores fell into the medium category across all aspects, including risk identification, stress evaluation, and mitigation strategies. Observations revealed active student engagement in all stages of PBL, and the questionnaire indicated positive perceptions toward AR, particularly regarding its usefulness and ease of use. These findings suggest that the integration of PBL and AR not only enhances cognitive learning outcomes but also strengthens students’ affective and social dimensions. This study recommends the broader application of the PBL–AR model in vocational engineering education as a strategy to produce adaptive, competent, and technologically literate graduates. The model is considered capable of addressing the challenges of modern engineering education, which demands strong conceptual understanding and high-level problem-solving skills

Abstract

The increasing adoption of digital beauty technology through Virtual Try-On (VTO) platforms powered by artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR) necessitates a precise understanding of user preferences. This study aims to model user responses to VTO features using Item Response Theory (IRT), specifically the Graded Response Model (GRM) for ordinal-scale items and the Nominal Response Model (NRM) for non-ordinal categorical items. A total of 15 items were analyzed using GRM to assess users’ perceptions of AI accuracy, feature convenience, and visual satisfaction. Additionally, five non-ordinal items were modeled using NRM to capture explicit preferences for specific VTO functionalities, such as digital interaction and visual simulation. The results show that the average user preference score was 3.02 out of 5 (SD = 1.03), while the total preference score averaged 60 out of 100 (SD = 10.7), with response distributions approximately normal (skewness = 0.12; kurtosis = -0.24). The item information curves from the GRM indicated that several items contributed high information (above 2.0), effectively differentiating users within the −1 to +1 ability range. In the NRM analysis, the “real-time color visualization feature” exhibited the highest utility parameter (c = 1.98), indicating a strong user preference for this feature. The integration of GRM and NRM enables a more nuanced and flexible mapping of user preferences. This study presents a novel psychometric approach by combining GRM and NRM within a single VTO context to simultaneously capture both ordinal and nominal dimensions of user experience, which has not been extensively explored in prior research. These findings provide meaningful insights for the development of adaptive, personalized, and intelligent AI-based VTO systems to enhance the quality of user experience in digital beauty applications.

Abstract

Predicting stock market prices is challenging due to the complex and volatile nature of financial time series. This study examines the use of Random Forest Regression (RFR) to predict the closing prices of the Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) from January 2015 to May 2025. Historical data were collected from Yahoo Finance, preprocessed, and engineered into seven predictor features, including lagged prices, moving averages, volatility measures, and a COVID-19 event indicator. The dataset was split into training and testing sets (80:20) using a time-based approach. Hyperparameters were optimized via RandomizedSearchCV with TimeSeriesSplit cross-validation. The final model achieved an RMSE of 177.55 and an R² of 0.71 on the testing set, demonstrating strong predictive performance. Feature importance analysis indicated that the previous day’s closing price (lag_1) was the most influential predictor, followed by lag_2 and MA_7.Visualizations showed that the model effectively captured major trends and turning points, with minor deviations during extreme volatility. The next-day prediction for May 23, 2025, yielded a closing price of 7145.12, indicating practical applicability for short-term investment decisions. The results highlight that Random Forest Regression is a robust and effective method for predicting financial time series, capable of handling non-linear patterns and market fluctuations

Abstract

This study presents the implementation of a hybrid chatbot designed to enhance the efficiency of information services on the PT Jasamarga Pandaan Toll website. Conventional rule-based chatbots often struggle to provide accurate responses when users employ varied sentence structures or synonyms. To address this limitation, a hybrid approach is proposed that combines keyword matching with Natural Language Processing (NLP) capabilities through the Dialogflow platform. The research employed the waterfall development model, consisting of requirement analysis, system design, implementation, testing, and maintenance stages. Data were collected through observation and interviews within the company, and then transformed into intents, entities, and training phrases. The keyword matching component was implemented using a structured database, while Dialogflow was integrated with a webhook to dynamically process toll rate queries. Black-box testing was used to evaluate functional accuracy, and usability testing was conducted to measure user satisfaction and response efficiency. The results demonstrate that the developed chatbot can accurately recognize user queries, respond faster, and provide more relevant answers compared to a rule-based approach alone. This implementation highlights the potential of hybrid chatbot technology to improve customer interaction, reduce reliance on manual service, and support digital transformation in the toll road industry.

Abstract

This study investigates the use of Support Vector Machine (SVM) enhanced with Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) for water quality classification. Conventional SVM models often underperform when parameters are selected manually, resulting in reduced predictive accuracy. To overcome this limitation, PSO was applied to automatically optimize the SVM kernel parameters, enabling more reliable and robust classification. The research employed a quantitative experimental framework consisting of data preprocessing, model training, optimization, and performance evaluation. The dataset included physical and chemical attributes of water quality, which were normalized and prepared before classification. Evaluation was based on standard metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score. The results show that the PSO-optimized SVM consistently outperformed the baseline SVM model, producing more accurate and stable classifications. This confirms the potential of metaheuristic optimization in strengthening machine learning approaches for environmental data analysis. The main contribution of this study lies in applying a PSO–SVM framework to water quality classification, a domain where such integration has been rarely explored despite its importance for sustainable resource management. The findings provide both theoretical implications for advancing metaheuristic applications in environmental informatics and practical benefits for improving decision support in water quality monitoring and management.
