Abstract

Insurance companies play a vital role in managing risk and maintaining economic stability. Understanding the factors influencing their profitability is essential for effective decision-making. This study examines the determinants of profitability among 18 insurance companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during the 2019–2023 period. Using a quantitative research design, the study analyzes 90 observations by applying panel data regression, which combines time series and cross-sectional data, supported by E-Views 9.0 software. The variables tested include company-specific factors such as age, leverage, liquidity, loss ratio, premium growth, asset tangibility, managerial efficiency, and company size, along with macroeconomic indicators like GDP growth and inflation. The regression results reveal that only managerial efficiency has a significant negative impact on profitability, as measured by Return on Assets. This indicates that lower operational efficiency is associated with reduced profitability. In contrast, variables such as company age, leverage, liquidity, loss ratio, premium growth, asset tangibility, company size, GDP growth, and inflation show no significant effect on profitability. The findings highlight the critical role of internal management efficiency over external or structural factors in driving financial performance. This research offers valuable insights for insurance company managers, emphasizing the need to improve operational efficiency to enhance profitability.

Abstract

The low mastery of students' skills in learning English and the limited application of explicit learning strategies such as DI in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) class in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Direct Teaching (DI) strategy in improving the mastery of understanding of grade VII students at State Junior High School 3 Tanggetada. The method used in this study is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which is carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consists of four stages, namely planning, implementing actions, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 18 students who were selected purposively based on their low mastery of understanding. Data collection techniques include insight tests, student and teacher activity observation sheets, and field notes. Data analysis was carried out descriptively quantitatively and qualitatively to assess the development of student learning outcomes and behavior during the learning process. The results of the study indicate that the application of the Direct Teaching strategy can improve students' mastery of understanding and encourage active involvement in the learning process. Students become more confident, motivated, and able to understand understanding in a more structured way.

Abstract

The low level of student collaboration in Informatics learning presents a serious challenge that can hinder the achievement of optimal cognitive learning outcomes. A lack of cooperation causes students to struggle with sharing ideas, solving problems together, and developing a deep conceptual understanding. To address this issue, a Flash Card learning medium based on Augmented Reality (AR) was developed and integrated with a Joyful Learning approach. The aim is to create an enjoyable and interactive learning environment while enhancing student collaboration. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model in the development process. The resulting media was evaluated for feasibility and effectiveness through observations and learning outcome tests. Collaboration aspects were assessed using indicators such as communication, task distribution, decision-making consensus, and active engagement. The findings revealed that the AR-based Flash Card media significantly improved the learning outcomes of seventh-grade students in the Computer Systems topic, as evidenced by 93.3% of students scoring above the minimum passing grade, with an average score of 84.6. Additionally, the collaboration level reached 87.6%, categorized as “very good.” With interactive 3D visualizations and an enjoyable learning atmosphere, this media effectively supports Informatics learning in both cognitive and socio-affective aspects.

Abstract

The Battle of Hunain is one of the important events in Islamic history that proves the leadership of The Prophet Muhammad SAW in facing a major crisis. This study aims to analyse the leadership strategy of the Prophet Muhammad SAW in the Battle of Hunain and its relevance to the concept of contemporary leadership. The method used is qualitative with a literature study approach sourced from hadith books, Sirah Nabawiyah, and academic literature. The results of the study show that The Prophet SAW implemented a leadership strategy based on vision, exemplary behaviour, crisis management, and effective situational adaptation. Decisiveness in decision making, the ability to raise the spirit of the troops, and anxiety in facing changes in the war situation are the main keys to victory. Strategies such as intelligence gathering, logistics planning, and reorganizing troops during chaos are proof of his capacity as a visionary and transformational leader. The moral and spiritual values inherent in the leadership of The Prophet strengthen his relevance as an ideal leadership model in various modern contexts, including organizations, education, and government.

Abstract

This study aims to compare the economic thought of Ibnu Khaldun and Adam Smith in relation to economic growth and the role of the state. Both thinkers, emerging from different historical and cultural contexts Ibnu Khaldun from 14th century Islamic civilization and Adam Smith from 18th-century Western classical economics offer foundational ideas on how economies develop and the function of governance. Using a qualitative approach with literature study as the method, this research analyzes the key similarities and differences in their views. The findings reveal that while Adam Smith is often associated with the laissez-faire principle, he acknowledges the necessity of state involvement in providing public goods and maintaining legal frameworks. Conversely, Ibnu Khaldun views a just and stable government as essential for sustaining economic prosperity, emphasizing moral and political stability. The study highlights that both thinkers recognize the interplay between governance and economic development. These insights contribute to enriching modern economic discourse by integrating historical and ethical perspectives, offering a more holistic foundation for addressing current economic challenges and rethinking the role of the state in ensuring sustainable growth.

Abstract

Quality public services are a reflection of good governance. However, in practice, there are still many acts of maladministration that hinder the realization of fair, transparent, and accountable services. This study aims to analyze the implementation of good governance principles in public services, especially through law enforcement against various forms of maladministration. The method used is a juridical-sociological approach by examining normative legal data and empirical conditions in the field. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of good governance principles such as transparency, accountability, participation, effectiveness, and the rule of law is still not optimal in a number of public service sectors. One of the main causes is weak supervision and lack of assertiveness in law enforcement against administrative violations by state officials. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the public complaint mechanism, the active role of supervisory institutions such as the Ombudsman, and strict law enforcement to encourage bureaucratic reform and public services with integrity. This study concludes that law enforcement against maladministration is a strategic instrument in realizing the principle of good governance substantially in public services.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effects of return on assets and the debt-to-equity ratio on the value of manufacturing firms listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) from 2021 to 2023. The price-to-book value ratio is used to determine a company’s value. This research employs a quantitative method using multiple linear regression analysis. The sample includes 67 companies selected through purposive sampling techniques. The hypothesis testing results show that both the debt-to-equity ratio and return on assets have a significant and comprehensive effect on firm value. Furthermore, the results indicate that the debt-to-equity ratio and return on assets together have a notable impact on the company's value. The coefficient of determination shows that these two independent variables account for only 34% of the variation in firm value, with the remaining 66% influenced by other unexamined factors. This study provides insights for businesses and investors regarding the importance of financing strategies and operational efficiency in enhancing firm value, especially during the economic recovery following the pandemic. Therefore, future researchers are advised to include additional variables to obtain more comprehensive and conclusive results.
