Abstract

This research focuses on biology education students' perspectives regarding teacher roles and domains of expertise in the 21st century identified from micro teaching courses. The aimed of this study was to describe the types of teacher roles that emerge in teaching practice in micro teaching courses and identify domains of expertise based on the perceptions of prospective biology teacher students while attending micro teaching courses. This research method is a qualitative based on the lesson study framework. The research instruments used questionnaires, interviews, and the observation of the learning process. The research results show that there are weaknesses in the domain of expertise needed in the 21st century, which consists of mastery of content/material, technology and pedagogy. Suggestions for further research are that good cooperation between universities and partners in schools is needed by forming the lesson study for learning communities (LSLC). This LSLC can develop the competencies of prospective biology teacher students, especially those related to pedagogical, technological, and concept mastery competencies on an ongoing basis

Abstract

The environmental crisis, which is a global problem, can be overcome by increasing sustainability awareness. The education for sustainable development (ESD) based global warming module can increase understanding and sustainability awareness. The goal of this research was to create a module based on ESD that deserves to be tested for its effectiveness in raising junior high school students understanding and sustainability awareness of global warming. The development procedure is based on the ADDIE model (analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate) data collection techniques using interviews, questionnaires, and pretest-posttest questions. The data analysis techniques used are the descriptive qualitative technique, percentage analysis, readability test, validity and reliability test, normality and homogeneity test, independent sample t-test, N-gain test, and effect size test. The results of media and material validation tests show very valid criteria. The results of the N-gain test in the post-test control class showed low criteria, while those in the experimental class showed medium bars. The outcomes of the effect size test in the post-test control and practical classes show high criteria. This research indicates that the modules developed are valid and effective for increasing students' understanding and sustainability awareness

Abstract

The contribution of communication and digital literacy skills to critical thinking in biology are rarely explored. The present study employed a correlational research design to determine how communication and digital literacy skills contributed to students’ critical thinking. In this study, communication and digital literacy skills served as the predictor variables, whereas critical thinking served as the criterion variable. Fourth semester students from Tadris Biology department at IAIN Ternate in North Maluku made up the research sample. Essay questions, questionnaires, and observation sheets were used to collect data. Research results show that communication skills and digital literacy simultaneously and significantly affect critical thinking skills. The study’s findings proved that communication skills and digital literacy contribute to critical thinking skills as much as 34.93% and 29.67%, respectively. These findings indicate that educators need to incorporate components of communication skills and digital literacy into their instruction in order to enhance students’ critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Today the electronic learning has developed because in line with the demands of the that sorely on technology. Assessment is one of the important elements in instructional activities and to support e-learning appear the electronic assessment. This study aims to develop an electronic learning chemistry assesment (Element) digital application through project based learning (PjBL) on the concept of applied chemistry. The research method used is the research and development method. The research subjects for the product trial developed in this study were students of the class of 2019/2020 with a purposive sampling technique with a sample of 24 students. This research instrument uses a needs analysis questionnaire, expert validation before and after revision, student response and small-scale trials. The assessment component contained in the application consists of quiz assignments, practical, product, project and final. The validation results were analyzed using content validity ratio (CVR) analysis and each criterion was then calculated the content validity index (CVI) or average value. The results showed that the Element through PjBL on applied chemistry concepts had been validated by material and media experts with an average CVI of 0.9 or the very valid category. The results of the small-scale test of the electronic-virtual assessment for of learning application for students obtained an average percentage of 93.9% with the criteria of "very interesting". Furthermore, the data on increasing students' scientific performance has increased by 0.70 with a high category and is strong effectively used to improve student scientific performance

Abstract

Integrating technology has a positive impact on science learning. Technology multiplatform can be used as a didactic tool is physics education technology (PhET). This study aims to develop worksheet integrated PhET simulations. The development adopted the 4D model. The designed activity aims to engage students in critical thinking. The instrument for measuring critical thinking consists of 5 questions based on the critical thinking aspect: interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, and explanation. Content and media experts and two practitioners validated the media. The validation result shows a V index between 0.80 - 1.00 for all aspects with very high categories. The readability test was administered to 20 students and gained very good results. The effectiveness test was conducted on two different classes. The experiment class uses a worksheet integrated PhET, while the control class uses a worksheet without PhET. Students in the experiment class had higher critical thinking skills scores than those in class control. It can be interpreted that using worksheet-integrated PhET affected students' critical-thinking skills. The results of this study can be used as a reference for integrating technology into science learning

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are needed in solving problems because identitying problems requires an analytical thinking process based on clear data and reasons. The purpose of this study was to describe the critical thinking skills of chemistry education students class of 2020 in solving problems related to the mole concept. The type of research used in this study is descriptive quantitative. Subjects who participated voluntarily in this study were 38 people out of 49 chemistry education students class of 2020. Data collection techniques using measurement and direct communication. The research instrument used was adopted from the stoichiometry e-book developed by Rahmat Rasmawan in 2022 which has been validated by 10 validators with a score of 85 which means it is valid and can be used. The data analysis technique used was descriptive analysis. The results showed that critical thinking skills in the skilled category was 40%, while in the less and unskilled were 55% and 5% respectively. In each indicator, which are making assumptions is in the highly skilled criteria with 66%, making inductive thinking conclusions are in the skilled criteria with 84%, and interpreting information is in the unskilled criteria with 61%. The critical thinking skills of students in the 2020 chemistry education class are still in the unskilled category, this is due to the inhibiting factors, namely the online learning system and inappropriate learning methods

Abstract

Technology-based learning media is currently relevant for implementing the "Merdeka" Curriculum because it offers many advantages. Google sites are one of the alternative technology-based media that can be used by students for independent, interactive, accessible, and not limited by space and time learning. This study aims to develop, determine the quality and responses of students to google sites acid-base material which is made referring to the guided inquiry model. Thiagarajan, Semmel Semmel’s 4-D (define, design, develop and desiminate) development model—which is limited to the develop stage—is used as a google sites development procedure. Seven respondents (one media expert, one material expert and five chemistry teachers) were involved to assess the quality of google sites through the expert judgment method with a four-scale questionnaire instrument and 10 students were asked to be willing to respond to google sites with a Guttman scale questionnaire sheet. The results of the quality assessment of google sites show that this media has an excellent category with a percentage of ideal quality of 95.83% according to the material expert; 92.5% by the media expert, and 95.68% by chemistry teachers. The response of students to google sites is also positive with the acquisition of an ideal percentage of 91%. The results of expert assessments and student responses indicate that google sites have a potential effect to be used as a chemistry learning medium, helping students understand concepts as well as interactive learning media

Abstract

Metacognitive activities in the learning process will help students gain lasting memories and understanding. Students should be directed to achieve high competence through various innovative learning activities, one of which is by applying the discovery learning model. This study aims to describe the interests, learning responsibilities and metacognitive abilities of students through the discovery learning model based on blended learning. This study uses a mixed qualitative-quantitative approach with an embedded research design. The sample in this study were 50 students of class XI MIA at SMA Negeri 4 Jambi City who were selected using a purposive sampling technique. The data collection instruments used were learning interest and learning responsibility questionnaires, students' metacognitive ability tests, and interview sheets. The data will be analyzed qualitatively using miles and hubarman and quantitatively using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The inferential statistics performed consist of assumption tests (normality test, homogeneity test, and linearity test) and hypothesis testing (T test and correlation test). The results of this study indicate that there are significant differences between learning interest, learning responsibility, and metacognitive abilities of students in class XI MIA 1 and class XI MIA 2, with a significance value of 0.012 for student learning interest, then 0.010 for student learning responsibility, and 0.007 for students' metacognitive abilities. In addition, it is known that there is a significant relationship between the variables of student interest and the metacognitive abilities of class XI MIA students at SMA Negeri 4 Jambi City, which is equal to 0.000

Abstract

Understanding the quality of biology learning implemented by teachers in Jember is essential to pay attention to. This study aims to identify biology teachers' technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK) ability profiles. The research method combines quantitative and qualitative approaches with an explanatory sequential design. At the quantitative research stage, the questionnaire method was used as the main instrument, which was then strengthened with a qualitative approach through interviews and documentation studies. Data collection was carried out through surveys and interviews. The population of this study were biology teachers in Jember, Indonesia, with a total sample of 33 biology education teachers. The survey instrument used is based on previous research conducted by Muhaimin, with a standard validity coefficient of 0.71-0.93. The survey questionnaire was distributed using google forms, with the assistance of two high school teachers and two research assistants. The results showed that the TPACK ability of high school biology teachers in Jember was still low due to a lack of access to information about technological developments and new learning media. Information about technological developments and new learning media is only obtained from university students participating in the field experience program. Therefore, teachers must be encouraged to improve their TPACK skills to provide a more effective learning process

Abstract

Learning media is a means to facilitate teachers in providing material, create enthusiastic and motivated students in accomplishment learning, therefore can be improve their abilities and skills in receiving the learning provided. The utilization of booklets as learning media creates interest in learning and a positive response. This study aims to find out the students' response to the booklet of butterfly pea plant (Clitoria ternatea L.) as a learning media. The instrument used was a questionnaire with three aspects of response, namely affective, cognitive, and conative which existed additional developed into 11 statements items. The average percentage obtained for each aspect of response, namely affective, cognitive, and conative response aspects, was 75,89%; 67,11%; 70,98% with the overall response having an average of 71,33%. It can be concluded that the booklet developed into learning media received a positive response from students
