Abstract

This research aims to compile and develop a frame of mind related to field guidance on croton plants in Morphometric courses. This is motivated by the absence of a specific field guide discussing croton plants, even though Morphometric courses require field practicum material. Documented the cultivars of croton plants (Codiaeum variegatum) spread across 4 districts in Manokwari and develop a field guide in the form of a leaflet of croton plant cultivars. The study was conducted using the ADDIE development model which is limited to 3 stages, namely Analysis, Design and Development. The subjects of the study were Biology Education Students. The research product was in the form of a croton plant leaflet that was validated by the material and media validator. Meanwhile, to test student responses, a questionnaire was used. The results of the UPGMA analysis grouped 26 cultivars into 3 groups, namely 6 narrow-leafed cultivars, 11 medium-leafed cultivars and 9 broad-leafed cultivars. This grouping is more influenced by leaf shape. The results of the analysis showed that there were 19 identical accessions (1.00). The results of the leaflet product validation for material experts were declared very valid (81.67%), and media experts were declared very valid (98.68%), in line with student responses stated as very practical (90.97%).

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of using the systemic approach to improve students’ understanding of English adjectives, specifically in relation to spelling, pronunciation meaning, and use. This research employed a quasi-experimental design. The population consisted of third-semester students of Muhammadiyah University of Makassar in the 2017/2018 academic year. A total of 40 students were selected through purposive sampling and were divided into two groups namely an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group was taught using the systemic approach, which emphasized the intersection, interaction, and interrelation of linguistic elements, while the control group received instruction using conventional methods. The findings showed that the systemic approach led to significantly better outcomes. Post-test t-test results revealed scores of 6.363 for use, 7.131 for spelling, 6.309 for meaning, and 6.397 for pronunciation, all exceeding the critical t-table value of 2.024. These results indicated statistically significant improvements across all assessed aspects. This study concluded that the systemic approach supported integrative and effective learning of adjectives by helping students master not only their form but also their practical application.

Abstract

Speaking skills (maharah al-kalam) are a key competency in Arabic language learning, essential not only for daily communication but also for academic contexts such as scientific debates. However, many students in the Arabic Language Education Program (PBA) at Hasyim Asy’ari University face challenges including limited vocabulary, insufficient practice, grammatical errors, and low self-confidence in presenting arguments. This study aimed to describe the implementation of the scientific debate method in teaching speaking skills, identify obstacles encountered, and explore effective improvement strategies. Using a qualitative approach with a descriptive design, the research was conducted with fourth-semester students and a speaking skills lecturer in PBA UNHASY. Data were collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, using observation and interview guides as well as documentation formats. Analysis followed Miles and Huberman’s interactive model of data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing, with validity ensured through source and method triangulation. Findings show that the scientific debate method significantly improved students’ fluency, accuracy, vocabulary variety, self-confidence, and ability to present logical arguments. Challenges included vocabulary limitations, nervousness, lack of extracurricular practice, and difficulty in quick argument formulation. Effective strategies comprised providing thematic vocabulary lists, repeated practice with varied topics, constructive feedback, and academic-style debate simulations. The study concludes that integrating scientific debates into the curriculum fosters linguistic, cognitive, and affective development, and recommends consistent application supported by structured materials and extended implementation across institutions.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of persuasive sentences in tourism promotion brochures published by the North Nias Regency Tourism and Culture Office. The focus of this study is to identify the types of persuasive sentences based on Aristotle's rhetorical theory (ethos, pathos, logos, and call to action/CTA) as well as the linguistic elements used to influence potential tourists. The method used is a qualitative approach through document analysis of selected brochures and in-depth interviews with two key informants from the office. The results of the study show that the brochures use more logos sentences (70%) and pathos sentences (27.5%), while ethos sentences are not found at all, and CTA only appears at 2.5%. Of the nine linguistic elements according to Gorys Keraf's theory, only four were found: personification (7.5%), repetition (5%), imperative (2.5%), and hyperbole (2.5%), while other elements such as pronouns, adjectives, assonance, metaphors, and synecdoche did not appear. These findings indicate that the narrative structure in brochures is still intuitive and not yet fully based on a scientific approach. Therefore, this study recommends that the agency improve the balance of persuasive strategies, increase the use of CTAs, and enrich the variety of linguistic elements to make brochures more appealing to readers.

Abstract

Malay culture-based contextual learning is a meaningful learning experience in supporting children's social development. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Malay culture-based contextual learning in improving social skills. The method used is a quasi-experimental design with a two-group pretest-posttest control group design. The population of this study were children aged 5-6 years in Rumbai District, Pekanbaru City. The research sample used purposive sampling consisting of 50 children from two institutions, namely Dayyinah Kids Kindergarten and Asri Kindergarten. The results showed that the average value of the experimental class was from 58.44% to 75.80%. Malay culture-based contextual learning in the experimental class was better than the control class without treatment where the average value was 57.88% to 61.12%. The results of the hypothesis test stated that Malay culture-based contextual learning through interactive media had a significant effect on children's social skills, seen from the Sig. (2-tailed) value for the results of the experimental class and control class hypotheses were 0.000 <0.05. Thus, the hypothesis Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted, so it can be concluded that contextual learning based on Malay culture has a positive effect on the social skills of children aged 5-6 years.

Data analysis techniques in this study are determining the standard deviation and average, normality test (Chi square) and hypothesis testing (t-test). The results of this study are in the post-test calculation of the hypothesis test can be obtained t count = 1.815 and obtained t table = 1.711. The testing criteria if t count ≥ t table then Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. If t count ≤ t table then Ho is accepted and Ha is rejected. Based on the calculation of the hypothesis test above, it is obtained that t count ≥ t table (1.815 ≥ 1.711) so Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. In other words, the hypothesis proposed in this study can be accepted as true, meaning; The learning outcomes of fifth grade students in social studies learning at SD Negeri 47 Lubuklinggau after the implementation of the Contextual Teaching and Learning learning model assisted by Question Card media are significantly complete.
