Abstract

This study explores the influence of algorithmic management on employee autonomy and creativity within remote first companies. As organizations increasingly rely on automated systems to assign tasks, monitor performance, and standardize workflows, concerns arise about how such systems impact workers' creative capacities. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 15 employees across various digital industries. Thematic analysis revealed that while algorithmic oversight enhances operational clarity and consistency, it also imposes rigid structures that often reduce discretionary decision making and psychological safety. Autonomy emerged as a key mediating factor: employees who retained some control over how they worked were more likely to report creative engagement, while those facing strict digital control reported demotivation and cognitive fatigue. Emotional responses, such as anxiety, trust, and detachment, were also found to shape creative outcomes. The study further identified design implications for algorithmic systems, emphasizing transparency, human override mechanisms, and participatory features that support innovation. These findings suggest that creativity and algorithmic management are not mutually exclusive but require careful system design that balances control with employee empowerment. The research contributes to a deeper understanding of how digital oversight affects innovation in distributed work settings and offers practical guidance for organizations navigating remote workforce management through algorithms.

Abstract

Abstract

SMEs are independent productive enterprises managed by individuals or business entities that are not subsidiaries or branches of larger companies. This study aims to analyze the influence of entrepreneurial orientation, business environment adaptation, and business innovation on business performance through competitive advantage among culinary SMEs in Semarang City. The research involved 120 respondents, consisting of owners and managers of culinary SMEs in Semarang. Data were analyzed using the Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) method with the support of IBM AMOS 22 software. The findings reveal that entrepreneurial orientation, business environment adaptation, and innovation influence business performance through competitive advantage. However, only business environment adaptation has a direct effect on business performance without going through competitive advantage, while the other variables impact business performance only when mediated by competitive advantage. Therefore, MSME owners are advised to strengthen their adaptability, business innovation, and entrepreneurial orientation in order to face market dynamics and competition. For further research, it is highly recommended to expand the study to other MSME sectors or different regions to enrich local business development strategies.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a vital role in driving Indonesia’s economic growth, innovation, and job creation. However, the majority of MSMEs, particularly in the food and beverage sector, face significant challenges in quality control and operational efficiency due to limited internal resources. This study aims to investigate the effect of Soft Total Quality Management (Soft TQM) on Operational Performance and Business Performance, with Operational Performance examined as a mediating variable. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected through an online questionnaire distributed to 185 student-owned food and beverage businesses at Ciputra University Surabaya. Respondents were selected from three cohorts (2021, 2022, 2023) using a purposive sampling technique. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with the help of SmartPLS software. The results indicate that Soft TQM significantly affects Operational Performance, and that Operational Performance significantly affects Business Performance. However, the direct effect of Soft TQM on Business Performance, as well as its indirect effect through Operational Performance, is not statistically significant. These findings suggest that while Soft TQM can enhance internal operations, its impact on overall business performance is contingent upon the presence of structured systems and readiness of internal capabilities. Therefore, strengthening operational systems and aligning TQM practices with organizational strategy is crucial for MSMEs aiming for sustainable competitiveness.

Abstract

This study aims to examine how the factors in the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), namely ease of Use, security, and privacy concerns, influence repurchase intention on the Shopee e-commerce platform, with trust as a mediator. The research targets active students at Ciputra University Surabaya who use Shopee as their primary e-commerce platform for transactions. A quantitative approach was used, with a survey design involving 304 respondents. Data were collected through a questionnaire using a 7-point Likert scale and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) via SmartPLS 4.0. The results show that Ease of Use, Security, and Privacy Concerns significantly influence Trust, each with values above the ideal threshold. Furthermore, Trust serves as a mediator between these TAM factors and repurchase intention. Privacy concerns proved to be the strongest factor influencing trust, highlighting the importance of data protection in building user trust. These findings indicate the importance of optimizing platform usability, implementing robust security measures, and establishing clear privacy policies to gain user trust and encourage repurchase intention.

Abstract

The Mount Picis and Mount Sigogor Nature Reserves in Ponorogo Regency, East Java, are conservation areas with significant potential for high biodiversity, including habitats for protected species such as the Javan Hawk-eagle and the Javan Leopard, as well as vital environmental services. This study aims to formulate a strategy for developing sustainable ecotourism-based nature tourism in the Mount Picis and Mount Sigogor Nature Reserves, Ponorogo Regency. The data from this study were analyzed using the SWOT method, identifying internal and external factors. The area's main strengths include its ecosystem integrity and rich flora and fauna diversity, while opportunities came from local government support and the participation of buffer communities. However, significant weaknesses include limited management facilities and infrastructure, suboptimal area data, and external threats such as low community well-being and the risk of forest fires. Based on this analysis, two main strategic objectives were formulated: (1) Increasing research and education based on biological potential, and (2) Maintaining the security and integrity of the area. The implementation strategy includes developing a potential database, adding infrastructure, improving human resources, and securing the area integrated with the economic empowerment of communities in the buffer zone. The conclusion of this study is that ecotourism development in the Picis mount and Gunung mount Nature Reserve must be carried out adaptively, prioritizing conservation, and involving the active participation of local communities to ensure the sustainability of the ecological and social functions of the area.

Abstract

This study explores the configuration of digital entrepreneurship ecosystems in Indonesian higher education institutions (HEIs), emphasizing barriers and enabling factors that shape students’ entrepreneurial engagement. Using an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design, the research integrates quantitative survey data (N = 173) and qualitative interviews to examine entrepreneurial readiness, innovation capacity, and institutional support structures. Findings indicate that students demonstrate high motivation and self-efficacy but face persistent constraints related to mentorship, funding, and technical access. The qualitative phase identifies six recurring challenges—ideation and market-fit, marketing skills, time management, mentoring gaps, technical limitations, and financial barriers—revealing a fragmented yet promising ecosystem. To address these issues, the study proposes the Strategic Empowerment Model for Digital Entrepreneurship (SEM-DE), a four-lever framework emphasizing structured ideation, continuous mentoring, skill-based clinics, and micro-grant schemes. This research contributes a contextualized and actionable model for strengthening university-based entrepreneurship ecosystems and informs policy directions toward inclusive, innovation-driven higher education in emerging economies.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the key factors contributing to patient dissatisfaction in six general hospitals operated by security institutions in East Java using the Importance–Performance Mapping Analysis (IPMA). Patient dissatisfaction generally arises from three categories of issues—clinical, management, and relational problems that influence patients’ experiences during hospitalization. Using a purposive sampling method, data were collected from 130 inpatients who had previously submitted complaints. The analysis indicates that clinical issues, particularly indicators related to the adequacy of pain management and the appropriateness of hospital meals (CPQY4 and CPQY5), fall within the high-importance and low-performance quadrant, making them the primary priorities for service improvement. Meanwhile, several indicators within the management and relational problem categories, such as RPCN2 and MPET4, demonstrate high performance but have a low impact on dissatisfaction, suggesting that these aspects are functioning well but are not the principal determinants of patient dissatisfaction. The implementation of this study includes recommendations to enhance clinical competence through integrated training programs, regular medical audits, and the refinement of complaint-handling procedures to ensure a more proactive and responsive approach. Additionally, strengthening interpersonal communication, improving inter-unit coordination, and conducting routine evaluations using IPMA are proposed to help hospitals more accurately target improvement priorities and support the development of patient-centered healthcare services.
