Located of research at Cihandiwung Lor, Adimulya, Wanareja, Cilacap, Central Java. Data was collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed through reduction, presentation, and verification of conclusions. The research results showed that Wanareja's Kuda Lumping gamelan musical instruments consisted of kendang, demung, saron, calapita, kenong, bonang, kethuk, drum, gong, and kempul. Based on the shape of gamelan musical instruments, mathematical concepts include numbers, measurement, and geometry. The saron, demung, bonang, and kempul contain the concept of natural numbers, while kempul shows the concept of quantity. The kendang, demung, saron, calapita, kenong, bonang, kethuk, drum, gong, and kempul show the concept of a rectangle, circle, trapezoid, and tube. The layout of gamelan musical instruments (especially bonang) involves a matrix concept. The Kuda Lumping dance consists of ngatur sembah, pecak pedhang, losing to the enemy, fighting against the enemy from the right, fighting against the enemy from the left, ending the battle, mejang beksa, and janturan/mendem. The mathematical concept related to dance movement patterns is geometric transformation (reflection, translation, and rotation). Several dance movements for praying, breaking the sword, losing to the enemy, fighting against the enemy, and ending the battle show reflection and translation. The janturan and mejang beksa dance movements show rotation. Concerning Gamelan musical instruments, there are kethuk and saron which show two-dimensional geometric concepts such as circles and trapezoids. Abstract

This study systematically reviewed the literature linking mathematics learning to STEM education in the context of conservation. An in-depth analysis of 200 scientific articles revealed a significant correlation between STEM and conservation efforts. However, research specifically exploring the central role of mathematics in conservation-based learning was relatively limited. The study successfully identified several best practices, such as using mathematical modeling to analyze complex environmental phenomena and developing problem-based projects that integrate multiple STEM disciplines. However, there was a significant knowledge gap regarding optimal learning design, selection of relevant conservation topics, and comprehensive evaluation of the impact of this learning on students’ conceptual understanding and behavioral changes. To fill this gap, further research was needed to develop a more comprehensive framework integrating mathematics into conservation-based STEM learning. This framework was expected to guide educators in designing effective and meaningful learning experiences and allow for more systematic evaluation of learning outcomes. In addition, future research should also explore the role of digital technologies in supporting conservation-based mathematics learning, as well as the challenges and opportunities faced in implementing this approach across cultural and social contexts.

Abstract

The conceptual framework for combining culture and language training proposed by Liddicoat and Scarino (2013) comprising 1) Structural Understandings of Content, 2) Communicative Understanding of Content, 2) Content-Based Language Teaching, 4) Concept-Based Understandings of Content, and 5) Content for Intercultural Language Teaching and Learning is reinterpreted in this paper. It delves into how students' comprehension of the connection between language and culture can be improved via the use of a systematic method for organizing course material. The framework lays the groundwork for successful engagement with both cultural and linguistic components by stressing the methodical presentation of such content. To further emphasize the significance of language forms and their practical use in genuine communication, the authors also present communicative understandings of content. More meaningful language interactions are made possible by this method, which emphasizes the interdependence of cultural knowledge and linguistic abilities. Furthermore, the article delves further into the topic of content-based language training, which uses authentic cultural settings to improve both language learning and cross-cultural competency. It promotes a more in-depth investigation of cultural notions and their influence on language acquisition by integrating concept-based understandings of culture. With an emphasis on helping students become fluent communicators and adept at navigating cultural differences, this article presents the concept of content for intercultural language learning. This paper stresses the need for inclusive pedagogy that welcomes Indonesian EFL students of all backgrounds, encourages the growth of language skills and intercultural understanding, and ultimately equips students to participate actively in communities around the world.
