Abstract

Air pollution is a global issue that threatens health and ecosystems. Tree planting is an effective solution because it can absorb carbon dioxide, produce oxygen, and filter air pollutants. This study was conducted to determine the extent of the influence of tree planting counseling in building the character of environmental care in schools. The method in this study uses quantitative with a one group pre-test post-test design approach. The sample size in the study amounted to 42 respondents using the total sampling formula. Data analysis was carried out using the shapiro-wilk test to check whether a sample of data came from a normal distribution. After that, use the paired sample t-test if the data is normally distributed and the Wilcoxon test if the data is not normally distributed. Based on the results of the study, the pre-test average value of 8.19 with a minimum value of 6.00 increased to a post-test average of 19.05 with a minimum value of 17.00 and a maximum of 20.00. The p-value of 0.000 <0.05 indicates that there is a significant difference between before and after counseling, so it can be concluded that counseling has a positive effect on increasing students' environmental care character. This indicates that the counseling is effective in increasing students' understanding of the importance of tree planting as part of building the character of environmental care.

Abstract

Lead is a highly toxic metal that occurs naturally in the environment, but its extensive use by humans has significantly increased exposure levels and the associated risks to human health. This study aims to assess lead concentration in soil contaminated by used lead acid batteries (ULABs) and to evaluate community knowledge regarding lead and its health impacts in the Cinangka and Cinangneng Villages. This research is descriptive in nature. The lead concentration data was obtained from the RPFLH records of Bogor Regency in 2023, with 125 measurement points in Cinangka Village and 13 points in Cinangneng Village. For the community knowledge aspect, a questionnaire was administered to 76 respondents using an accidental sampling method. The findings reveal that the highest lead concentrations in both Cinangka and Cinangneng Villages have surpassed the TK-A limit, with total concentrations of 7,093.80 mg/kg in Cinangka Village and 7,307.35 mg/kg in Cinangneng Village, classifying the land as B3 waste category 1. Furthermore, while general public knowledge about the impacts and classifications of used battery waste is relatively high, awareness regarding the locations of contamination, methods for avoiding exposure, and the direct pollution in their environment remains low.

Abstract

Acute respiratory infections (ARI) are a global public health problem, especially in developing countries, causing around 13 million deaths of children under five every year. In Indonesia, the incidence of ARI in children under five increased from 25% in 2013 to 47.17% in 2018. Factors such as the physical sanitation of the house and the behavior of residents, including ventilation, lighting, smoking habits and waste management, play a role in the incidence of ARI. Developing a stronger understanding of the importance of handling home sanitation and occupant behavior as the main key in reducing the incidence of ARI in children under five. The type of research used is a literature review. The study involved the analysis of national and international journals, with selection criteria focusing on indexing reputation, publisher, quality, content relevance, and data completeness. Based on the search and criteria testing, 13 articles were selected for review. Most of the studies used in the articles employed a cross-sectional design. The results from each article showed variations in the relationship between variables, but all found the occurrence of ARI. Household sanitation factors and occupant behavior play a significant role in the incidence of ARI in toddlers. Floor condition, wall condition, ventilation, lighting, humidity, and occupancy density affect the risk of ARI. Additionally, behaviors such as smoking indoors and using mosquito repellent coils increase the risk of ARI in toddlers.
