Abstract

Adolescence is a transitional stage that makes individuals vulnerable to health issues such as gastritis, a common digestive disorder often linked to stress, poor eating patterns, and caffeine intake. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between stress levels, eating patterns, and caffeine consumption with gastritis symptoms among adolescents at SMAN 2 Telukjambe Timur, Karawang. Using a cross-sectional design, data were collected from 92 students through validated questionnaires and analyzed with the Spearman correlation test. The results showed no significant relationship between stress levels and gastritis symptoms (p = 0.074) or caffeine consumption and gastritis symptoms (p = 0.102). However, there was a significant relationship between eating patterns (type, frequency, and timing) and gastritis symptoms (p = 0.001 and p = 0.002). This indicates that healthy and regular eating habits play a crucial role in preventing gastritis among adolescents.

Abstract

The low utilization of the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Handbook in Pong Murung Village hinders the early detection of toddler growth and development issues. This community service program aimed to enhance mothers' knowledge through educational sessions and practical demonstrations on the use of the MCH Handbook as an early intervention tool. The activities included lectures, discussions, and hands-on demonstrations conducted for 15 mothers of toddlers on March 12, 2025. Evaluation was carried out using pre- and post-tests. Results showed an increase in knowledge from poor (80%) to good (60%). The findings demonstrated that direct mentoring effectively improves mothers’ understanding of how to independently use the MCH Handbook to monitor child development. A major obstacle was that many handbooks were kept at health posts, limiting access for mothers. A sustainable solution includes returning the handbook to parents and providing continued education by village midwives. This activity highlights the importance of cross-sector collaboration to optimize the MCH Handbook as a tool for education and early detection of child development issues.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the relationship between blood glucose levels and tingling sensation in the feet among individuals with suspected diabetic neuropathy using the Chi-Square and Spearman correlation approach. A cross-sectional design was applied involving 100 participants aged 35–65 years selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and fasting blood glucose tests, followed by statistical analysis using SPSS. Results showed a significant association between elevated blood glucose levels and the presence of tingling sensations (p < 0.05). Spearman's test indicated a strong positive correlation (r = 0.682), suggesting that as glucose levels increase, the likelihood of tingling sensations also rises. These findings support the hypothesis that persistent hyperglycemia contributes to peripheral nerve damage, potentially leading to diabetic neuropathy. This research highlights the importance of early detection and glycemic control as preventive measures. Further longitudinal studies are recommended to explore causal mechanisms and clinical interventions.

Abstract

Sleep health is important for the overall health and quality of life of workers. Workers with sleep disorders experience various physical and mental health problems, including abnormal vital signs, mood disorders, poor quality of life, frequent workplace injuries, and even premature death. The main objective of this study is to determine the effect of educational media on sleep quality and work fatigue in workers. This study uses a Quasi Experimental research form. With a design using a Pre-Post Test Design. The sample in this study were employees at Konveksi Elnino and PT. X which is engaged in paper manufacturing with a total of 36 respondents. The results of the study on 36 respondents showed that the age of respondents ranged from 23-32 years as many as 20 respondents (55.35%) and 33-49 years as many as 16 respondents (44.65%). Workers aged 15-64 years are included in productive age workers, who are considered capable of producing goods and services in the production process. Productive age can affect worker performance because with increasing age, the degenerative process in body organs decreases so that workers are more easily tired. Based on statistical tests, there was an increase in knowledge and attitudes in Calendar Media (2D) and Hand Fan Media (Innovation), while in Youtube Video Shorts Media (3D), there was no increase in knowledge and attitudes.

Abstract

Physical water pollution has become a serious environmental problem, primarily caused by domestic and livestock waste being directly discharged into rivers. This type of pollution is characterized by changes in the physical properties of water, such as color, odor, taste, and turbidity. This study aims to describe the community’s knowledge regarding river water pollution in Tanjung Selamat Village, Deli Serdang Regency. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques including interviews, observation, and documentation. The research informants consisted of 5 people, including 1 head of the neighborhood, 2 residents living along the riverbanks, and 2 street vendors operating near the river in Tanjung Selamat Village. The results showed that the level of community knowledge regarding water pollution is still low, as indicated by the ongoing practice of disposing of domestic waste directly into the river, which has led to physical water pollution in the area. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct continuous outreach, environmental education, and counseling programs for the community, particularly those residing near the river. It is expected that by increasing public awareness and knowledge, efforts to maintain the cleanliness of rivers in Tanjung Selamat Village, Deli Serdang, can be realized.

Abstract

Communication is an essential aspect of health services, as it plays a key role in delivering information to both healthcare personnel and patients. In hospitals, the Emergency Registration Unit (ERU) or the patient registration counter in the Emergency Department (ED) serves as the primary entry point for emergency patients to receive care. ERU officers are responsible for performing initial administrative procedures, recording patient identity, coordinating with medical staff, and conveying important information to patients’ families and related service units. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach to examine communication barriers experienced by ERU officers in the Emergency Department of Dr. Pirngadi General Hospital, Medan, when delivering information to patients and service units. The findings revealed several communication barriers, including suboptimal effectiveness in explaining emergency procedures, delayed inter-unit coordination despite the use of a computerized information system, and limited interpersonal communication skills among officers under high work pressure. In addition, patients’ and families’ lack of understanding of service procedures often led to misperceptions of the information provided. The study highlights the importance of interpersonal and empathic communication training, as well as the optimization of information systems to improve the quality of communication and services in the Emergency Department. Data validity was ensured through triangulation and member checking, and the study received official approval from the hospital management.

Abstract

Raw water sources are essential in providing clean water, and their quality must be maintained to meet health standards. The quality of raw water is affected by environmental conditions, rainfall, and human activities along river flows. Domestic, agricultural, and industrial activities often lead to pollution through suspended particles, chemical compounds, and organic materials that increase turbidity and alter the water’s physical and chemical properties. Therefore, effective treatment is needed to ensure water is safe for consumption. This study aims to analyze the physical and chemical parameters in the raw water treatment system at Perumda Tirtanadi Sunggal. The research used a qualitative descriptive method through field observations and secondary data from laboratory tests conducted at the same location. The physical parameters observed were temperature, color, and turbidity, while the chemical parameters included pH, ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, organic substances, and metal contents such as Fe, Mn, and Al. The raw water originated from the middle part of Sei Belawan, an area susceptible to pollution from domestic, agricultural, and industrial waste. Results showed that the turbidity and Fe content of the raw water exceeded raw water testing standards. However, after treatment, all parameters met the Indonesian drinking water quality standards as stated in the Minister of Health Regulation No. 2 of 2023 and Government Regulation No. 22 of 2021 concerning Environmental Protection and Management. The study emphasizes that continuous improvement of the treatment process is essential to maintain high water quality throughout the distribution system in accordance with hygiene and sanitation standards.

Abstract

Healthcare services in developing countries face persistent challenges such as limited resources, suboptimal service quality, and high workloads. To address these issues, the Lean Hospital approach has emerged as a strategic innovation aimed at improving efficiency and service quality by reducing waste. However, its implementation is frequently hindered by a lack of understanding, resistance stemming from organizational culture, and insufficient trained personnel. This necessitates a systematic examination to explore prevailing trends, identify facilitators and barriers, and develop an implementation model tailored to the specific needs of developing countries. This study adopts a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology to evaluate Lean Hospital implementation across developing countries. Following rigorous stages of planning, execution, and reporting, a comprehensive search was conducted using databases such as PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar via Publish or Perish. Articles were screened based on inclusion criteria including topic relevance, publication date, language, accessibility, and journal accreditation. The PRISMA flowchart guided the selection process, yielding 27 articles for thematic analysis. The results highlight that Lean Hospital initiatives can substantially enhance operational efficiency and patient care quality, particularly through reduced waiting times and improved staff productivity. Key success factors include strong leadership commitment, a supportive organizational culture, and active staff participation. Nonetheless, significant barriers such as change resistance, resource limitations, and inadequate understanding of Lean principles must be overcome. Effective implementation requires contextual adaptation, technological integration, and continuous organizational capacity building. Ultimately, fostering a collaborative culture and patient-centered orientation is critical to achieving sustainable health system transformation in developing countries.
