Abstract

Effective education is the key to developing students to face life's challenges. Learning motivation serves as a push for students to be active in their learning activities, greatly influenced by the level of effort and abilities they possess. Students with stronger learning motivation tend to be more diligent and always pay attention to teacher instructions during the learning process. Student learning motivation can be honed through educational games. Digital media such as Scratch has attracted the attention of educators as an innovative tool to enhance learning in various fields, including Social Sciences. This research uses a qualitative approach to understand the implications of Scratch in Social Sciences learning. Scratch, as a visual programming language, facilitates various creative projects. Its use in elementary schools has shown increased student motivation, including engagement, creativity, and collaboration. With proper implementation, Scratch can reinforce cognitive learning, programming skills, and collaboration. Its positive implications include increasing interest in learning, student participation, and digital competence. The use of Scratch has great potential to enhance student motivation and develop their various competencies. In the educational context, Scratch is a powerful tool to facilitate enjoyable and meaningful learning for students. For successful implementation, appropriate steps are needed, including platform introduction, understanding basic programming concepts, and providing feedback. In conclusion, Scratch can be an effective tool in enhancing Social Sciences learning in elementary schools, with a positive impact on student motivation and competency development.

Abstract

In the present day, Traditional database management methods are becoming more inadequate for effective data processing as the volume of data created by systems grows. Machine learning approaches have shown promise in optimizing database queries and enhancing database administration functions such as query optimization, workload management, indexing, and data quality assurance to solve this problem. We investigate the different machine learning algorithms used for query optimization and database management in this comprehensive literature review. Our review shows that machine learning approaches such as Deep Learning (DL), Reinforcement learning (RL), supervised learning, natural language processing (NLP), and unsupervised learning, among others, may be employed for query analysis, execution, and assessment. It is feasible to increase query performance and react to changing conditions by introducing machine learning techniques into database management systems.

Abstract

Mathematics is an important science that shapes the future as it did in the past. The mathematical knowledge, which helps explain other sciences, needs to be transferred and adopted to the next generation with this awareness. However, nowadays, mathematics is increasingly presented as a subject that should be avoided and is famous for its failures. The feeling of insensitivity towards mathematics brought about by mathematical anxiety and fear is now one of the important issues that needs to be solved on its own. For this purpose, in addition to increasing students' interest and sensitivity towards mathematics, teachers and parents must support this motivation in a necessary and sufficient way. In this study, it is discussed what the insensitivity and anxiety that develops towards mathematics are and under what conditions they are triggered. In addition, solution suggestions for eliminating mathematical insensitivity were presented in line with the opinions of students, teachers and parents, with whom semi-structured interviews were conducted in accordance with the purpose and scope of the study. The data of the study was analyzed by content analysis and the results were added to the solution suggestions headings in the study.

Abstract

The increasing reliance on artificial intelligence (AI) models, such as Large Language Models (LLMs), poses a unique challenge regarding environmental sustainability. Current LLMs prioritize performance and versatility, often neglecting the ecological impact of the solutions they generate. This paper presents a novel approach to fine-tuning LLMs to embed environmental considerations in their responses. By adjusting their training datasets and models, we enhance the likelihood of producing environmentally friendly outcomes. We observed that responses factoring in sustainability increased from 5% to over 75% post-optimization. This paper discusses our methodology, the challenges faced, and the implications for AI’s role in supporting global sustainability goals

Abstract

The study aimed to enhance vocabulary proficiency among upper secondary students in English literature at Al Mazhar Girls’ High School, Nintavur. The objectives were to identify effective teaching methods for vocabulary acquisition, evaluate students’ attitudes toward literature-based vocabulary learning, and recommend integrating literature into the curriculum. A mixed methods approach was used, combining quantitative data from pre-tests, mid-tests, and post-tests with qualitative insights from structured questionnaires and observations. Out of 35 GCE(O/L) students who took the pre-test, 20 were selected for the study. Data analysis in MS Excel revealed significant improvements in students' vocabulary skills following the intervention. Strategies such as song-based learning, vocabulary games, and language boards proved highly effective. Pre-test and post-test comparisons showed notable progress, while qualitative data reflected positive student feedback and engagement. The study recommends integrating literature-based instruction and interactive methods, such as songs and games, into the curriculum to enhance vocabulary acquisition. These strategies not only improved learning outcomes but also increased students’ interest and motivation in acquiring new vocabulary.

Abstract

This study investigates the accessibility, gender disparities, and preferences related to extracurricular activities (ECAs) among students in Bangladesh. Utilizing a survey conducted with middle school, high school, and undergraduate students, we explore the challenges faced by urban versus rural students, the specific barriers encountered by female students, and the preferences for online versus offline ECAs. The results reveal significant disparities, with rural students and female participants facing considerable obstacles in accessing ECA opportunities. A strong preference for online ECAs is evident, although awareness of existing platforms facilitating ECA opportunities is limited. The findings highlight the need for targeted interventions to improve ECA accessibility, promote gender equality, and enhance the visibility of ECA resources. This study provides actionable recommendations to foster a more inclusive environment for ECA participation, ultimately contributing to the holistic development of students across Bangladesh.

Abstract

The ethnopedagogical approach to learning aims to integrate local cultural values into the educational process and make learning materials more holistic, relevant and contextual. More than that, technology makes learning media help visualize scientific concepts in an interesting and easy to understand way. Therefore, this research was conducted to determine the effectiveness of using interactive videos with an ethnopedagogical approach in scientific-based learning. Media was developed using a research and development approach. The level of effectiveness is measured by increasing student learning outcomes before and after using the media. The research was conducted at SD Negeri 02 Palembang. The subjects of this research were 19 fifth grade elementary school students in the mathematics subject sub-theme of cube nets. Data collection was carried out using test instruments. The research results show that the use of interactive videos with an ethnopedagogic approach in scientific-based learning as a learning medium provides new experiences for students. The results of the field test showed an N-Gain value of 0.75 in the high category (effective). Evaluation results shows that the use of interactive videos with an ethnopedagogic approach in scientific-based learning is effective in improving mathematics learning outcomes for elementary school students.
