Abstract

In this qualitative study, we would like to discover the national character development and cultural education from a local wisdom. The results obtained indicate that Indonesian national education today still faces a number of significant problems. The educational outcomes have not met the expected expectations, in which the learning process in schools is still unable to form the integrity of the graduates and reflect the character and culture of the nation. The education process tends to focus on the cognitive aspects, while the affective aspects that are essential for living in society have not been optimally developed. Therefore, the development of the education of the character and culture of the nation has become a must to be done in schools. Schools as the centre of change must pursue education based on the character and culture of the nation with seriousness. The character and the culture of a nation developed in the school must be in harmony with the local, regional, and national character and cultures. To these goals, the education of character and cultural nation must be developed based on local wisdom.

Abstract

This study aims to critically examine the role of cognitive biases in principal decision-making processes by synthesizing and analysing existing literature. It seeks to identify key cognitive biases affecting principal decisions, their impact on organizational outcomes, and potential mitigation strategies. A comprehensive narrative analysis of the literature was conducted. Relevant peer-reviewed articles, books, and book chapters published between 1970 and 2023 were systematically identified and reviewed using major academic databases such as Web of Science, JSTOR, and Google Scholar. The analysis revealed that cognitive biases, particularly confirmation bias, overconfidence, anchoring, and availability bias, significantly influence principal decision-making. These biases can lead to suboptimal decisions, affecting strategic planning, risk assessment, and overall organizational performance. The study also identified several debiasing techniques, including awareness training and structured decision-making frameworks, which show promise in mitigating the impact of cognitive biases. This study provides a comprehensive and up-to-date synthesis of research on cognitive biases in principal decision-making, offering a holistic view of the field’s current state. It uniquely combines insights from cognitive psychology, behavioural economics, and management science to provide a multidisciplinary perspective on the topic. The study contributes to both theory and practice by offering a structured understanding of how cognitive biases influence principal decision-making. It provides valuable insights for principals and organizations to improve their decision-making processes and highlights areas for future research in this critical field. The findings can inform the development of more effective principal training programs and decision support systems.

Teacher’s organizational commitment is crucial for achieving school goals. Teachers with high commitment to their schools can significantly positively impact both students and the overall school environment. This study explores the influence of servant leadership and trust on teacher’s organizational commitment, an area that has not been researched in the context of private Buddhist elementary schools. This research aims to analyze the direct and indirect relationships between servant leadership, trust, and teacher’s organizational commitment. The study employs a quantitative approach with path analysis techniques. The sample was drawn from a population of 355 permanent teachers from private Buddhist elementary schools in the Greater Jakarta area, resulting in a total of 189 respondents. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using path analysis to test the proposed hypotheses. The results indicate that servant leadership (β = 0.314), and trust (β = 0.395) have a direct positive influence on teacher’s organizational commitment. Additionally, trust (β =0.262) serves as an significant intervening variable between servant leadership and teacher’s organizational commitment. The findings offer recommendations for schools and stakeholders as a strategy to improve teacher’s organizational commitment by strengthening servant leadership and trust.

Abstract

General elections target novice voters as a flying vote. Novice voters are those who are eligible to participate in general elections for the first time with a minimum age of 17 years. Among them are class XII SMA/MA or new students. In the 2024 General Election, novice voters as a whole dominated the permanent voter list (DPT) with a number reaching around 56.45% of the total voters. However, the level of voter participation has decreased, due to disappointment in the results of previous elections and local elections. Various problems have resulted in a decrease in voter participation, including the tendency of pragmatic political elites who do not want to know about citizens' participation rights. In order to increase public confidence in domestic democracy, a strategy to increase political participation is needed. The development of Indonesian politics must be known to all citizens, in order to understand the correct political choices and in accordance with decisions without tendency and intimidation according to applicable rules. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method, because it explores the phenomenon in depth. The Smart Choosing Movement (GCM) is effective in increasing political awareness among first-time voters. GCM succeeded in raising awareness of the importance of elections, government functions, and rights and responsibilities as citizens. GCM is effective in increasing understanding of the electoral process, from registration to voting. The program is able to increase the motivation of novice voters to be directly involved in elections.
