Abstract

This systematic review examines the integration of technology in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) writing instruction, focusing on articles published in the SIELE Journal from 2019 to 2024. Utilizing the PRISMA methodology, the study synthesizes findings on the effectiveness of digital tools in enhancing EFL writing skills. The analysis indicates that technology significantly boosts student engagement, writing proficiency, and the quality of feedback provided to learners, making the learning process more interactive and conducive to writing development. However, several challenges impede the full potential of technology integration, such as varying levels of digital literacy among students and educators, inconsistent access to technology and internet, and the need for comprehensive teacher training programs. Addressing these issues is crucial for maximizing the benefits of technology in EFL writing instruction. By overcoming these barriers, educators can better leverage digital tools to improve educational outcomes, equipping students with essential skills for success in an increasingly digital world. This research underscores the transformative role of technology in modern education.

Abstract

This systematic review examines the integration of cultural values from Indonesian folklore into educational practices, with a particular focus on the Merdeka Curriculum. The study aimed to analyze peer-reviewed articles published between 2019 and 2024 to assess the impact of folklore-based education on student learning, cultural awareness, and moral development. The research followed PRISMA guidelines, initially identifying 150 relevant articles. After applying strict inclusion and exclusion criteria, 50 articles were further analyzed, leading to the selection of 7 studies for in-depth review. The results reveal that incorporating folklore into the curriculum significantly enhances students' cultural identity, moral reasoning, and engagement in learning. However, challenges such as the adaptation of traditional folklore to modern educational contexts and the effective use of digital platforms were identified. The novelty of this study lies in its comprehensive synthesis of recent empirical evidence on the educational use of Indonesian folklore, providing insights into the potential of folklore-based education to preserve local wisdom. This review contributes to the broader discourse on cultural preservation and educational innovation, highlighting the importance of integrating indigenous knowledge into formal education to foster a culturally responsive learning environment.

Abstract

This systematic review integrates findings from studies on leadership styles transformational, paternalistic, and participative and their influence on social harmony and community development within rural Indonesian contexts. Following the PRISMA methodology, 150 pertinent articles were initially identified, with 11 studies ultimately selected for rigorous in-depth analysis. The results reveal that transformational leadership fosters innovation and collective action, substantially enhancing social cohesion and community participation. However, its efficacy is often undermined by entrenched socio-cultural hierarchies and limited educational infrastructure in rural settings. Paternalistic leadership, while adept at maintaining social stability and moral order, constrains flexibility and impedes innovation, rendering it less adaptable to the exigencies of modernization. Participative leadership emphasizes inclusivity and shared decision-making, thereby strengthening community involvement, but it remains hampered by resource scarcity and temporal constraints. A recurring theme throughout the analysis highlights the necessity of aligning leadership practices with local cultural norms to build community trust and optimize the success of development initiatives. This review ultimately underscores the imperative for culturally attuned leadership that not only preserves indigenous wisdom but also navigates the challenges of modernization, fostering sustainable development in rural communities.

Abstract

This systematic review aims to identify the key motivational factors that influence the development of speaking skills among Indonesian English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners. Using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, five studies were selected for in-depth analysis. The methodology involved the identification, screening, and thematic analysis of research focusing on motivational factors affecting speaking proficiency. The results indicate that both internal factors—such as self-confidence, personal satisfaction, and integrative motivation—and external factors—including teacher support, classroom atmosphere, task structure, and instructional media—play crucial roles in enhancing learners’ motivation to participate in speaking activities. The novelty of this study lies in its focus on the Indonesian EFL context, offering a comprehensive overview of how these motivational factors intersect in this specific educational setting. The study contributes to the field by providing practical recommendations for educators, suggesting that a balanced focus on internal drives and supportive external environments is essential for improving speaking proficiency among Indonesian EFL learners. This review thus highlights the importance of addressing both personal and environmental factors to foster greater participation and confidence in speaking activities.

Abstract

This systematic literature review explores the impact of Photovoice on fostering self-expression among English language learners and identifies the key challenges in implementing this participatory visual methodology within classroom settings. Using the PRISMA method, this review analyzes peer-reviewed studies published between 2019 and 2024. A total of 270 articles were initially identified through databases such as Scopus and Google Scholar, with 9 studies selected for thematic analysis focused on self-expression and the integration challenges of Photovoice in English language learning. The findings demonstrate that Photovoice significantly enhances self-expression in students by enabling them to confidently articulate complex emotions and ideas in English, reducing language anxiety, and promoting deeper engagement. However, obstacles such as limited classroom time, inadequate technological resources, and insufficient teacher training were noted as barriers to its effective implementation. This review addresses a critical gap in the literature by focusing specifically on the role of Photovoice in fostering self-expression in English learners, an area that remains underexplored. The study contributes to educational practice by providing educators with insights into how Photovoice can be integrated into language teaching to enhance self-expression, while also highlighting the practical challenges and offering recommendations for overcoming them to maximize the method’s potential.

Abstract

This study investigates the application of differentiated instruction (DI) models in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) classrooms at vocational high schools in Palembang, focusing on students’ linguistic and vocational needs. Using a systematic literature review (SLR) following PRISMA guidelines, the research analysed 15 articles from Scopus, ERIC, Google Scholar, and Web of Science. The findings reveal that DI strategies are inconsistently applied, with teachers often facing challenges due to large class sizes, insufficient training, and resource limitations. However, when implemented effectively, DI has been shown to improve student engagement and learning outcomes. The study identifies best practices for enhancing DI in vocational ESP settings, emphasizing the need for curriculum alignment, task variety, and professional development to address the unique needs of vocational students. Recommendations include providing ongoing teacher training and better resources to optimize DI models in such contexts.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the school and community partnership model to improve the quality of the educational environment. This study is a literature study of data collection methods in the form of journals and scientific articles related to research studies. The analysis used in this study includes a review of the latest research findings and screening of relevant research materials. This study reveals that school and community partnership models, such as the Caring School Project (Rudolph, 2009) and the School Community Council Model (Diehl et al., 2005), the Ohio Community Collaborative Model (OCCMSI) (Anderson-Butcher et al., 2008) and the National Partnership School Network (NNPS) Model (Sanders et al., 2005) show that school-community partnerships are not only limited to academic teaching but also include the social and economic well-being of students. Effective collaboration between schools and communities can create broader support for students, increase family involvement, and resolve local challenges that affect the quality of education. Educational success depends not only on the school's internal efforts but also on how they work together with the community. Good collaboration between schools, families, and community organizations can create a more supportive educational environment conducive to student success.
