Abstract

This research investigated how EFL teachers become more engaged with extensive reading when developing their writing proficiency. This research used a narrative inquiry method to collect data on individuals who have and have not engaged in extensive reading. An initial questionnaire was sent to EFL teachers through Google-form. Fifteen EFL high school teachers responded to the questionnaire, most female and 33 years old. Afterward, one chosen EFL teacher was interviewed to discuss how they use extensive reading to improve their writing skills. The results found that the keys to improving scientific article writing as a hobby are that English teachers read articles from various sources to gain more information and understand different perspectives. Besides, they set a reading target of 15 minutes per day for them, leading to 20 books per year, or at least they can start practicing extensive reading since university. Also, reading fairytales, comics, folktales, magazines, novels, and short stories as extensive reading materials could increase their writing proficiency. In brief, extensive reading improves vocabulary mastery, reading fluency, and English proficiency, helping teachers better convey ideas and thoughts through written language. The implication was also discussed here.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether or not there is an influence of LOK-R (Literacy, Orientation, Collaboration, Reflection) learning strategies on scientific literacy skills. This type of research includes pre-experimental research with a one-group pre-test and post-test research design. This research was conducted at MI Islamiyah Kalimukti with a sample of 15 students. Data were collected by conducting a pre-test to determine students' initial scientific literacy skills and a post-test to determine the increase in students' scientific literacy abilities after implementing the LOK-R learning strategy. Research data were analyzed using descriptive and quantitative analysis. The n-gain study showed an increase in the average pretest and posttest results. Before implementing the LOK-R learning strategy, the average pretest of students was 56.47; then, it increased to 81.33 in the posttest results of students after implementing the LOK-R learning strategy. Likewise, the paired sample test results obtained a significant value of 0.000 <0.05, which means that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. This shows that applying the LOK-R learning strategy increases students' scientific literacy skills. Therefore, the LOK-R learning strategy can be an alternative in science learning activities on heat material and its transfer.

Abstract

Communication skills play a crucial role in IPS (Social Studies) education, but often they are not fully developed due to the lack of suitable teaching methods. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the effectiveness of using oral presentations as a teaching strategy to enhance communication skills among junior high school students. The study utilized an experimental research design with a pretest-posttest control group. Sixty students were divided into two groups: the control group and the experimental group. The data were collected using an observation sheet to assess students' communication skills, and the data analysis employed the t-test. The findings demonstrated that the oral presentation technique had a significant impact on improving the communication skills of junior high school students in IPS learning. This was supported by a t-test value of 0.000 (below 0.05). Based on these results, the author concluded that employing oral presentations as a teaching strategy is effective in enhancing the communication skills of junior high school students in IPS education. These research findings carry important implications for educators, students, and stakeholders as they recognize and prioritize the development of communication skills in IPS learning.

The results of the study show that the implementation of learning begins with greetings, apperceptions, basic activities with various methods and approaches used. Assessment is done in different ways, not only relying on exams, but reflection on learning activities is an important aspect of the assessment instrument. Freedom in achieving PAI learning is an important point in this independent curriculum, teachers and students have the freedom to master certain material until it is completed in one semester. Developing an attitude of independence is part of Pancasila's student profile building project. Obstacles encountered in the implementation of the Independent Curriculum, namely the teacher's difficulties in translating the curriculum to strengthen the profile of the Pancasila student into project activities outside of learning

Abstract

The advancement of technology develops a new framework in the education field, known as TPACK. It integrates the theory of pedagogy, content, and technology. Using mix method (qualitative-quantitative) research design, the researchersÔÇÖ goal was to know the implementation of TPACK in designing lesson plans by English teachers. Furthermore, the researchers decided to use purposive sampling for each education level (junior, senior, and vocational schools) in West Sumatera. To gain the data, the researchers conducted document analysis, observation, questionnaires, and interviews. After analyzing the data, it was found that the teachers in terms of preparing the lesson, the result showed teachersÔÇÖ pedagogical competence was higher than technological and content knowledge because they adopted lesson plans from the internet. However, regarding the competent of teachers in teaching and learning process, it seemed that they were more competent in technology compared with pedagogy and content knowledge because novice teachers were more familiar in using technology compared to experienced teachers. Surprisingly, in terms of assessment, the teachers were more competent in pedagogy compared with technology and content knowledge. However, content knowledge were not illustrate significantly since they could not understand and develop learning material based on studentsÔÇÖ needs. In conclusion, teachersÔÇÖ competence with TPACK were still below average in terms of┬á understanding the concept, implementation, and assessment, so that they need workshop and seminar to improve their teaching quality and TPACK understanding and implementation.

Abstract

This study aims to execute the entrepreneurship education strategy implemented by Salaf Islamic boarding schools. This qualitative research collects data through interviews, observation, and documentation studies. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman models. This research shows that the alleged educational pattern of the Salaf Islamic boarding schools which ignores worldly problems, in fact has a very systematic pattern of entrepreneurship education. The results of this study provide a clear explanation of how the entrepreneurship education system in Islamic boarding schools is very well coordinated. Santri who are at the age of children are given educational provisions in the character of honesty, leadership, understanding opportunities, and cooperation so that they are able to become entrepreneurs who bring benefits to all people. Interestingly, this kind of character education is delivered in Islamic ways, namely using the study of arba'in hadiths. Considering that entrepreneurship character education alone is not enough to produce talented entrepreneurs, students who are in their teens are also given training to be able to choose good raw materials, understand how and what objects must be produced, and even learn to market their products within the pesantren. Apart from that, the pesantren also provides facilities for adult students to master marketing techniques, with the aim that the products produced can be in demand and known by the wider community. The contribution of this research can be used as a guideline for Islamic boarding schools to formulate policies so that entrepreneurship education programs can be implemented optimally in Islamic boarding schools.
