Abstract

The Islamic New Year, especially on the 1st of Muharram, is not merely a religious ceremony but also holds significant educational value, particularly in shaping character and strengthening Islamic values. This study aims to describe the form, content, and impact of the 1st Muharram religious study activities held at the Al-Kautsar Mosque, Mata Air Hamlet, Kubang Utara Sikabu Village, Lembah Segar District, Sawahlunto City. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a content analysis approach. The results show that these religious studies contain the values of hablumminallah (human relationship with God) and hablumminannas (relationship with others), and are an effective means of non-formal education in the community. In addition, these activities also strengthen social solidarity, increase community participation, and preserve local values in accordance with Islamic teachings. This 1st Muharram religious study can be used as a concrete example of Islamic education practices that are alive in the community and are able to shape religious, caring, and moral characters.

Abstract

This study aims to understand how Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB) functions as a political ideology within the context of Brunei Darussalam’s absolute monarchy, to analyze its formation and the core components of Malay identity, Islam, and monarchy, as well as to evaluate its implementation in public policy, the education system, and governance. Furthermore, this research seeks to explore how MIB sustains monarchical legitimacy and political stability amid global modernization, while also identifying its implications for transparency, public participation, and modern governance in Brunei Darussalam. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach using a literature study method. Primary data were obtained from official government documents of Brunei Darussalam, while secondary data were derived from academic literature. The research instrument used was a literature data recording sheet designed to organize findings from the literature review. The analytical technique applied was content analysis, which systematically interprets the content of texts and documents. The findings reveal that the concept of Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB) represents a political ideology that integrates Islamic, Malay, and monarchical values to affirm Brunei Darussalam’s national identity. This ideology serves both as a symbol of nationhood and as a foundation of political and moral legitimacy that underpins the Sultan’s authority within the absolute monarchy. MIB internalizes cultural and religious values to foster social cohesion and political stability amid global uncertainty. The governance system of Brunei demonstrates that political stability can be achieved through ideological and moral legitimacy rather than through electoral processes as in democratic systems. This model places trust, obedience, and moral responsibility as the fundamental pillars of state governance, where monarchical power is perceived as a manifestation of the nation’s religious and cultural values.

Abstract

This study discusses Fawātiḥ al-Suwar within the context of Qur’anic exegesis (tafsīr) and ʿUlūm al-Qur’ān from a linguistic perspective, focusing on their structural functions and variations throughout the Qur’anic system. The method employed in this research is library research, which involves collecting information and data from various sources available in libraries such as documents, books, journals, historical records, and other relevant materials. The primary sources used in this study are derived from several classical works on ʿUlūm al-Qur’ān that are relevant to the topic. The approach adopted in this article is qualitative and descriptive. The findings indicate that Fawātiḥ al-Suwar represent one of the unique and miraculous features of the Qur’an’s composition, reflecting the profound meaning and divine eloquence (balāghah ilāhiyyah) of its expression. Prominent exegetes such as al-Qurṭubī, al-Rāzī, and Ibn ʿĀshūr explain that the openings of the Qur’anic chapters possess their own secrets, containing spiritual, rhetorical, and thematic messages. The fawātiḥ serve as an introduction to the meanings and as an affirmation of each surah’s central theme. Among their forms, ten main types can be identified: openings with praise, openings with al-ḥurūf al-muqattaʿah (disjointed letters), openings with vocatives (nidāʾ), openings with declarative statements (jumlah khabariyyah), openings with oaths (qasam), openings with conditional particles (ḥurūf sharṭ), openings with imperative verbs (fiʿl amr), openings with interrogatives (istifhām), openings with supplications (duʿāʾ), and openings with causal statements (taʿlīl).

The results show that Islamic education faces five main challenges: the digital infrastructure gap, low digital literacy of educators and students, ethical and spiritual value issues, curriculum unpreparedness for technology integration, and the rise of digital disinformation. Strategic solutions found include strengthening the digital competence of Islamic Education teachers, reconstructing the curriculum based on AI ethics, developing digital etiquette, collaboration between educational institutions and the technology industry, and ethical policy governance in the use of AI. Thus, Islamic education needs to integrate technology creatively while        remaining grounded in Islamic values to remain relevant in the digital era.

Abstract

This paper examines the concept of tawḥīd (Islamic monotheism) in the thought of Haji Batin Sulaiman as reflected in Syair Tsani, a poetic summary of Asrār al-Insān by Shaykh Nūr al-Dīn al-Rānīrī. As a local Muslim scholar, Haji Batin Sulaiman devoted great attention to issues of tawḥīd within a society still influenced by local traditions and syncretic elements. His theological ideas are expressed not only through oral preaching but also through a number of written works in Malay Jawi script. The findings indicate that Haji Batin Sulaiman’s conception of tawḥīd emphasizes the strengthening of faith through a synthesis of spiritual and Sufi dimensions. Consequently, his thought can be regarded as a valuable intellectual legacy and a source of inspiration for the development of Islamic education rooted in the values of tawḥīd.

Abstract

This article examines the transformation of the Ahmadiyya Movement from a theological movement into a global social movement. Founded by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad in Qadian, India, in 1889, the Ahmadiyya emerged as a response to the spiritual decline of Muslims and the dominance of British colonial power. Initially focused on theological reform emphasizing non-legislative prophethood and continuing revelation, the movement gradually evolved into a transnational social organization promoting peace, tolerance, and humanitarian values. This study employs a qualitative approach using a literature review method by analyzing academic sources and official Ahmadiyya publications. The findings indicate that through its global Caliphate system and humanitarian network such as Humanity First, the Ahmadiyya has successfully transformed its identity from a controversial religious sect into a global social movement that promotes the message of peaceful Islam under the motto “Love for All, Hatred for None.

Abstract

Classroom management is a critical factor in ensuring that the learning process is effective, orderly, and engaging. Teachers face various challenges, including the diversity of student characteristics and the dynamic nature of the classroom, which demand the use of adaptive, creative, and responsive management strategies. This study is motivated by the need for a thorough understanding of the components, strategies, effectiveness, and challenges of classroom management. Using a qualitative approach through a literature review, the research examines academic sources addressing both the theoretical foundations and practical applications of classroom management. The findings reveal that effective classroom management requires the integration of time management, classroom organization, and student behavior regulation, combined with the implementation of proactive, responsive, and innovative strategies suited to the classroom context. These results suggest that systematic and adaptive classroom management strategies are essential for creating a conducive learning environment, enhancing student motivation, and achieving optimal learning outcomes.
