Abstract

This study aims to analyze the philosophical foundation of justice as a legal principle in judicial decisions in Indonesia. Using a normative juridical research method, this paper examines the alignment between judicial considerations and the philosophical conception of justice proposed by thinkers such as Aristotle, John Rawls, and Gustav Radbruch. The analysis is based on a literature review of laws, legal doctrines, and selected court decisions that reflect the application of justice as a guiding principle in judicial reasoning. The results show that the philosophical meaning of justice has not been fully realized in every judicial decision, as some judgments still emphasize legal certainty over fairness and moral substance. Therefore, strengthening the philosophical awareness of judges is essential to harmonize justice, certainty, and expediency in Indonesia’s legal system.

Abstract

The Mu‘tazilah school represents one of the most significant rationalist theological movements in the history of Islamic thought. Emerging in the 8th century CE in Basra, it was pioneered by Wāṣil ibn ‘Aṭā’ as a response to theological debates concerning the status of grave sinners and as an effort to uphold the principles of divine unity and justice through reason. This study aims to examine the historical emergence, major figures, and fundamental doctrines of Mu‘tazilah, known collectively as Uṣūl al-Khamsah (The Five Principles). Employing a qualitative approach with a library research method, the study explores both classical and modern sources on Islamic theology (kalām) and philosophy. The findings indicate that the Mu‘tazilah positioned reason (‘aql) alongside revelation as a primary means for understanding religious teachings. Its five foundational principles include at-Tawḥīd (the Oneness of God), al-‘Adl (Divine Justice), al-Wa‘d wa al-Wa‘īd (Promise and Threat), al-Manzilah bayna al-Manzilatayn (the Intermediate Position), and al-Amr bi al-Ma‘rūf wa an-Nahy ‘an al-Munkar (Commanding Good and Forbidding Evil). Through these doctrines, Mu‘tazilah emphasized human freedom, moral responsibility, and rational interpretation of religious texts. The existence of this school contributed significantly to the development of Islamic theology (‘ilm al-kalām) and philosophy, particularly during the reign of Caliph al-Ma’mūn of the Abbasid dynasty. Although its influence declined with the rise of Ash‘arism, the intellectual legacy of Mu‘tazilah endures within modern Islamic rationalism. Thus, Mu‘tazilah stands not only as a symbol of classical Islamic intellectual awakening but also as enduring evidence that Islam possesses a profound tradition of critical and rational thought.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the author's worldview in Lan Fang's novel Lelakon using Lucien Goldmann's genetic-structuralism theory, which views literary works as expressions of collective worldview. This research employs a qualitative approach with genetic-structuralism dialectical method. Data were collected through reading and note-taking techniques, then analyzed using content analysis focusing on novel structure, social environment, and author's worldview. The study reveals that Lan Fang expresses a worldview on social inequality in two main dimensions: first, economic inequality between the wealthy (bourgeoisie) and the poor (proletariat); second, gender inequality between male dominance and female subordination. The novel's structure demonstrates cultural oppositions between elite-marginal housing, employer-servant, and fantasy-reality that frame the central theme of social inequality. The novel Lelakon represents the worldview of lower social classes experiencing oppression from the bourgeois class. Lan Fang, as a Chinese-Indonesian novelist in Surabaya, expresses social criticism of economic hegemony and patriarchy through characters who undergo moral transformation in facing unbalanced social reality.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools play a very important role, as a place for students to learn while carrying out their mission in spreading Islamic teachings. At the Al Karim Rasyd Islamic Boarding School, students are trained to develop their abilities and skills in preaching through muhadhoroh activities. The objectives of this study are 1) to understand the management of muhadhoroh activities at the Al Karim Rasyd Islamic Boarding School, 2) to explore the influence of muhadhoroh on the mental development of students, and 3) to examine the impact of muhadhoroh activities on the mental development of students. The method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collection techniques through interviews, documentation, observation, and data analysis carried out through the following steps: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the management of muhadhoroh activities in shaping the mental development of students begins with planning that includes muhadhoroh training. The organization is carried out by assigning muhadhoroh officers in each class, the implementation of which includes opening, reading of holy verses of the Qur'an, greeting, sholawat, core (muhadhoroh), prayer, and closing, where supervision is carried out by the administrators, as well as evaluation of the results of the implementation of muhadhoroh activities. The formation of the mentality of students through muhadhoroh activities is influenced by supporting and inhibiting factors. Supporting factors include obligations and the existence of guidance from all administrators, while inhibiting factors are feelings of pessimism and shame that exist in students.

Abstract

The development of classical Islamic thought has produced numerous prominent figures who played significant roles in shaping the civilization of knowledge. Among them are Al-Farabi and Ibn Sina, renowned as rationalist Muslim philosophers with major contributions to philosophy, logic, and Islamic epistemology. This paper aims to examine the integration of their intellectual ideas in strengthening Islamic literacy culture—namely, the culture of reading, writing, and critical thinking based on Islamic values. Using a qualitative approach grounded in library research, this article analyzes the relevance of the concepts of intellect, emanation, and education in the philosophies of Al-Farabi and Ibn Sina to the enhancement of literacy traditions in the modern era. The findings indicate that their philosophical thoughts can serve as a foundational framework for building a knowledgeable, ethical, and civilized society. This integration also emphasizes that literacy in Islam is not merely an intellectual activity but a form of worship that guides humans toward the perfection of reason and spirituality.

Abstract

This study examines the application of the inductive method and various approaches in the comparative study of public administration, highlighting the administrative system of the United States as a case study. The inductive approach is employed to identify emerging patterns and principles from empirical facts, while the comparative approach enables cross-country analysis that enriches the understanding of variations in public administration systems. This research adopts a qualitative method with an emphasis on literature review and document analysis. The findings indicate that the inductive method offers a high degree of analytical flexibility, whereas the historical, structural, and institutional approaches provide comprehensive conceptual frameworks for assessing public administration systems. The examination of the United States administrative system reveals key characteristics such as federalism, the principle of checks and balances, and strong decentralization. These findings carry implications for developing countries in designing adaptive administrative systems grounded in good governance.

Abstract

This study examines Comparative Public Administration (SPAN) with a focus on the paradigm shift from a classical approach emphasizing bureaucratic structures to a contemporary, multidimensional, adaptive, and applicable paradigm. The study is significant for understanding cross-country administrative practices as a reference for improving bureaucratic effectiveness, transparency, and public policy quality, particularly in the context of Indonesia’s government facing globalization, digitalization, and societal demands. The research aims to map the scope of SPAN, analyze integrative objectives, and evaluate the relevance of international administrative practices. A qualitative approach through literature review was employed, using content analysis of secondary data from journals, scholarly books, and official documents. Findings indicate that modern SPAN enables comprehensive analysis of public administration, strengthens governance capacity, and enhances bureaucratic responsiveness to local and global dynamics. The shift from purely theoretical orientation toward integrating theory, practice, policy, and global innovation confirms SPAN’s relevance for bureaucratic reform.

Abstract

Student management is a critical component of educational management that focuses on overseeing students from admission to graduation. The primary goal of student management is to create an orderly, disciplined, and conducive learning environment that supports both academic achievement and character development. This study aims to analyze the implementation of student management in enhancing student discipline and academic performance. The research employs a library research method with a qualitative descriptive approach, analyzing relevant literature including books, journals, and previous educational studies. Data were analyzed to describe the implementation of student management, supporting and inhibiting factors, and the relationship between student management strategies and students’ discipline and academic outcomes. The findings indicate that effective student management encompasses systematic administrative management, character development through extracurricular activities, teacher role modeling, and active parental involvement. Furthermore, the use of technology for monitoring student attendance and behavior, combined with consistent reward and sanction systems, significantly enhances student discipline. A case study at a junior high school in Aceh Tengah corroborates these findings, demonstrating that the “One Day Without Violation” program effectively increases students’ awareness of positive behavior and motivation to learn. In conclusion, integrated student management that combines administrative systems, character development, and collaboration between schools and parents significantly contributes to improving both discipline and academic achievement. These results suggest that schools should continuously innovate in student management practices to create a productive and conducive learning environment for all students.

Abstract

Islamic law is a legal system based on divine revelation. However, Islamic law's viability within modern contexts is profoundly dependent upon the engagement of human rationality and logical reasoning. These two components constitute essential mechanisms for elucidating the implications of Sharia texts, thereby ensuring that Islamic jurisprudence remains aligned with societal evolution and historical advancement. Together with rapid development in science and technology, such as the emergence of financial technology (fintech), bioethics, and artificial intelligence, Islamic jurisprudence confronts emergent dilemmas not explicitly delineated in the Quran or Hadith. That necessitates renewal within the methodology-in terms of how to bring the revealed and the rational together through the mechanism of istinbāṭ al-aḥkām. This study seeks to investigate the function of logic within the structure of Islamic jurisprudential methodology, as a special focus on implementation of qiyās., or legal analogy, and ta'līl, or causal reasoning, as types of legal rationalization based upon revelationThis research employs a descriptive qualitative methodology, utilizing library-based investigation. Data derived from six pertinent scholarly journals were subjected to a descriptive-comparative analysis to discern the parallels and divergences in the perspectives of classical and modern scholars regarding the methodology of Islamic legal deduction. The findings identify qiyās and ta‘līl as epistemological bridges between divine revelation and social reality. With a more rational approach, the philosophical and adaptive aspects of Islamic law are revealed, where the proper contextual application of Islamic law should respect divine principles.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the learning methods at Sirrul Quran Islamic Boarding School and evaluate their effectiveness in shaping students' character and religious understanding. This qualitative research, using a case study approach, found that the tahsin and tahfidz learning process at the pesantren involves six stages: Bin Nadzar, Tahfidz, Talaqqi, Takrir, Tasmi', and Mutqin. The success of this method is measured by the improvement in students' academic performance and motivation, as well as the teachers' ability to manage learning strategies. The study found that out of 15 respondents, 10 students obtained an average score above 80, indicating the effectiveness of the applied learning method. However, the study also identified challenges, namely the limited role of parents in supporting students at home and the difficulty some students face in adapting to learning media. Nevertheless, the teachers' role in guiding and providing inspirational lectures from the Quran proved effective in enhancing students' faith and devotion, which is reflected in their enthusiasm for learning tahsin and tahfidz.
