Abstract

ABSTRACT. The rapid development of information technology necessitates adjustments across various sectors, including education, particularly in early childhood education. Introducing technology at an early age is considered a strategic step in preparing children to face the challenges of the digital era. This community service program aimed to introduce technology, specifically computers, to kindergarten students. The program was in-person for students aged 4 to 5 years at TK Kristen 1 Satya Wacana, Salatiga. The training was conducted over multiple sessions, starting with an introduction to computer hardware, then developing mouse-handling skills, and engaging in interactive learning activities through educational games that addressed subjects like letters, numbers, geometric shapes, and different types of vehicles. Evaluation results revealed that the participants showed high enthusiasm throughout the sessions. The students also began to recognize computers as an alternative learning medium and other digital devices commonly used at home, such as smartphones and tablets. These findings suggest that a digital game-based learning approach can effectively enhance both students’ learning motivation and basic computer operation skills at an early age. Keywords: childhood education, computer training, education game, fun learning, gamebased learning.

Abstract

The Community Service Program (PPM) is one of the Tri Dharma (three pillars) and an integral part of education and research for lecturers. At Padjadjaran University, one effort to optimize and regenerate PMM is by collaborating PPM with Student Study Service (KKN). This project was carried out by lecturers from the Faculty of Cultural Sciences and students of Padjadjaran University in Sukahayu Village, Rancakalong District, Sumedang Regency, with a focus on revitalizing the traditional art of Koromong. As a local cultural heritage, Koromong has been facing a decline due to reduced youth interest and limited documentation. The program aimed to revive this art through an educational approach by developing a children’s book titled “Jelajah Nada Ceria Koromong” ‘Exploring the Cheerful Melody of Koromong’. The book, designed as an illustrated story, introduces the history, instruments, costumes, and cultural values of Koromong in a way that is accessible to elementary students. The results indicate an increase in students’ understanding and appreciation of local arts, along with greater community awareness of cultural preservation. Collaboration among lecturers, students, traditional artists, educators, and the village government contributed to the program’s success. The team further recommends the digitalization of the book and documentation of Koromong performances to ensure long-term accessibility and sustainability in promoting cultural literacy in the digital era.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major nutritional problem affecting children’s growth and development, particularly in urban areas with high levels of parental busyness such as Gedebage District, Bandung City. Low nutritional literacy among mothers of toddlers is one of the main factors leading to unbalanced feeding practices and limited attention to child growth monitoring. This community service activity aimed to improve maternal nutrition literacy through an educational counseling program at Posyandu Palem. The program was carried out in three stages: preparation, implementation, and simple evaluation. The face-to-face counseling session lasted for two hours and involved twenty mothers of toddlers and eight Posyandu cadres. The materials were delivered interactively through discussions, visual presentations, and leaflets to accommodate participants with various educational backgrounds. The results showed an increase in mothers’ knowledge and awareness of balanced nutrition, particularly regarding the relationship between stunting, brain development, and children’s immunity. Some participants began to show positive behavioral changes in choosing food ingredients and preparing family meals. However, several challenges remained, including limited time, children’s food preferences, and lack of family support. Overall, this activity demonstrated that participatory educational counseling is an effective approach to strengthening maternal nutrition literacy and serves as a strategic step in preventing stunting at the household level.

Abstract

The problem underlying this Community Service Program (Pengabdian pada Masyarakat/PPM) is the disaster vulnerability of Cikeruh Village, Jatinangor Subdistrict, Sumedang Regency, which is prone to flooding during every rainy season due to sedimentation and pollution of the Cikeruh River. For this reason, community participation is needed to support the normalization process. The methods applied in this PPM activity include community education and mediation, integrated into a series of stages consisting of education, observation, mediation, and action. In the 2025 PPM implementation, three main efforts were undertaken. First, education and observation were conducted at flood-prone locations to identify the root causes of the problem. Second, mediation was carried out with relevant stakeholders, including village authorities and the community of Cikeruh Village, the Citarum River Basin Authority (Balai Besar Wilayah Sungai/BBWS Citarum), and the Public Works and Housing Agency (Dinas Pekerjaan Umum dan Perumahan Rakyat/PUPR) of Sumedang Regency. Third, active participation was provided in the implementation of river dredging actions carried out by the Public Works and Housing Agency of Sumedang Regency. Overall, this PPM activity is aligned with the vision of the West Java Provincial Government and its affiliated institutions in declaring a commitment to environmental conservation, particularly river preservation, as an effort to strengthen community disaster resilience.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to enhance high school students’ literacy about higher education through a guest teaching session introducing university life and foreign language studies. The activity was conducted at SMA Darul Hikam Bandung and involved senior high school students preparing to pursue higher education. The method employed was community education through interactive outreach combining lectures, discussions, and an introduction to basic French vocabulary as an illustration of language and cultural studies. The material covered topics such as student life at university, essential skills required for successful academic adaptation, types of university students, and an overview of Universitas Padjadjaran and the Faculty of Cultural Sciences. Students were also introduced to simple French vocabulary related to daily expressions and French culinary culture. The results indicate that students showed strong enthusiasm when learning basic French expressions and actively participated in discussions about university life. However, most students still expressed a strong preference for science-related fields such as medicine and engineering rather than humanities programs. This finding highlights a gap between students’ curiosity about foreign languages and their willingness to pursue related academic fields. The activity demonstrates the importance of broader outreach efforts to promote humanities education among high school students.

Abstract

Limited vocabulary mastery and speaking proficiency among junior and senior high school students in North Lombok Regency are closely linked to English teachers' constrained pedagogical competence in designing meaningful and communicative instruction, particularly in a tourism-oriented region that demands strong English skills among the younger generation. This community service program aimed to strengthen teachers' competence in implementing Deep Learning-based instruction through the use of flashcards to reinforce students' vocabulary and speaking skills. The program employed training, workshops, teaching simulations (microteaching), and mentoring, conducted in three stages—needs orientation and analysis, pedagogical competence reinforcement, and flashcards implementation—involving 20 teachers at the socialization stage and an average of 15 active participants across eight sessions from April to June 2026. Diagnostic test results revealed that 85% of participants scored below 70 in grammar, indicating an urgent need for linguistic and pedagogical strengthening. Through the training, teachers successfully designed diverse flashcard-based learning activities, including Board Race Vocabulary, Word Categorization, and dialogue construction, reflecting increased creativity and confidence in creating interactive, student-centered instruction. The program concludes that integrating flashcards with a Deep Learning approach effectively fosters more contextual and communicative teaching practices, contributing to the sustainable improvement of English language instruction quality in North Lombok Regency.
