Abstract

Nyadran is a form of local wisdom within Javanese society that embodies the interaction between religious and cultural values in community life. This study aims to analyze the values embedded in the Nyadran tradition in Setren Village, identify the challenges of integrating Islamic teachings with local cultural practices, and examine their implications for local wisdom-based Islamic Religious Education (IRE). This research employed a qualitative approach using an intrinsic case study design. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed using descriptive-analytical techniques involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the Nyadran tradition contains Islamic values, such as collective prayers, almsgiving, and the strengthening of social solidarity, alongside cultural values that preserve community identity and cohesion. However, several practices were also identified that potentially conflict with Islamic teachings, including requests made to sacred sites (punden) and entertainment activities associated with immoral behavior. These challenges are influenced by limited religious literacy, weak value-filtering mechanisms, and a stronger emphasis on preserving tradition than on aligning it with Islamic principles. Consequently, ambiguity in religious understanding emerges, while the role of Islamic Religious Education in integrating religious and cultural values remains suboptimal. Therefore, IRE should function as a filter, value reinforcer, and cultural reconstruction agent to ensure that local traditions are preserved while remaining consistent with Islamic values.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of Nabire folktales as Indonesian language learning media to increase reading interest in fifth-grade students at SDN Inpres 01 Bumiraya Nabire, Central Papua. The research was motivated by students' low reading interest, as evidenced by their lack of involvement in reading activities, low library visits, and limited reading comprehension skills. Folktales were chosen because they contain cultural and moral values that are close to students' lives, thus increasing their involvement in literacy activities. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects consisted of fifth-grade teachers and students selected through purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing and verification. Data validity was tested through triangulation of sources and techniques. The results showed that the use of Nabire folktales in Indonesian language learning was able to increase students' reading interest. Reading materials became more interesting, relevant to students' cultural experiences, and encouraged active participation in reading activities and discussions. In addition, the use of folktales helped students understand local moral and cultural values and improved reading literacy skills. Thus, Nabire folk tales are effectively used as contextual learning media in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the values of child education embedded in the Islamic educational systems of the Nasrid Dynasty in Granada and the Sultanate of Rum in Anatolia through a historical-comparative approach. The research employed a library research method by examining primary and secondary sources related to educational institutions, scholarly traditions, educational figures, and educational values developed within both dynasties. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography, followed by comparative analysis to identify similarities and differences in educational values relevant to child education. The findings reveal that the Nasrid Dynasty promoted educational values such as literacy culture, love of knowledge, strengthening religious identity, and preservation of intellectual traditions through madrasas, libraries, and scholarly assemblies. Meanwhile, the Sultanate of Rum emphasized holistic educational values through the integration of religious and rational sciences, character building, spiritual development, tolerance, and humanitarian values reflected in Sufi educational traditions and the teachings of Jalal al-Din Rumi. The comparative analysis indicates that both dynasties viewed education as a means of character formation and intellectual development for younger generations, although they differed in educational orientation. The educational values identified in this study remain relevant to contemporary child education, particularly in strengthening literacy, character education, spiritual intelligence, and holistic learning. Therefore, the educational heritage of the Nasrid Dynasty and the Sultanate of Rum can serve as an important source of inspiration for developing sustainable and character-based child education.

Abstract

The development of digital technology, the rapid flow of information, and widespread virtual interactions have presented new challenges for the moral formation of teenagers. The moral crisis does not only appear in the form of conventional social delinquency, but also develops in the digital space through hate speech, cyberbullying, the spread of hoaxes, weak communication etiquette, low empathy, and lack of responsibility in the media. This article aims to analyze the role of Islamic Religious Education in overcoming the moral crisis of teenagers in the digital era. This research uses a qualitative approach with a type of library research and an integrative literature review design. Data was obtained from scientific journal articles for 2020–2026, theoretical books, proceedings, and relevant education policy documents. Data analysis was carried out using thematic analysis through the stages of identification, filtering, coding, organizing themes, and synthesis of findings. The results of the study show that Islamic Religious Education has a preventive, educative and transformative role in developing adolescent morals. Preventively, PAI builds a stronghold of values, self-control and religious awareness. Educationally, PAI teaches moral values, manners, social responsibility and digital ethics contextually. Transformatively, PAI forms a religious character so that Islamic values are realized in real behavior, both in social and digital spaces. This study confirms that PAI learning needs to be developed in a reflective, participatory, example-based manner and integrated with religious digital literacy.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the use of number flannel board media and its effect on improving understanding of number concepts among Grade I students at SDN 7 Limboto. It employs Classroom Action Research involving 18 students — 10 boys and 8 girls — together with the class teacher, during the academic year 2026. Data were analysed primarily based on the level of learning mastery achieved across successive stages of the research. Findings demonstrate that the number flannel board effectively supported better understanding of number concepts, shown through consistent improvement from pre‑cycle through Cycle I to Cycle II. Before intervention, learning completeness remained low at only 22.22%, meaning just 4 out of 18 students met the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM). Following introduction of the media in Cycle I, results rose noticeably to 61.11%, with 11 students achieving mastery. Progress continued into Cycle II, where a more substantial increase brought completeness to 83.33%, representing 15 students who successfully reached the required standard. This upward trend confirms that concrete, visual tools such as the number flannel board are highly suitable and effective for helping early‑grade students grasp basic numerical concepts.

Abstract

The implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in early childhood education emphasizes child-centered, contextual, and creativity-oriented learning. One learning medium that supports this approach is loose parts, which consist of open-ended materials that encourage children to explore, imagine, and solve problems independently. This study aims to analyze the role of loose parts in implementing the Merdeka Curriculum to foster creativity in early childhood through a literature review. Data were collected from national and international scientific articles published between 2023 and 2026, as well as relevant theoretical sources. Data were analyzed using content analysis through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that loose parts possess open-ended characteristics that enable children to explore various ideas, enhance divergent thinking, problem-solving skills, collaboration, communication, and creativity. Furthermore, loose parts are aligned with the principles of differentiated learning in the Merdeka Curriculum, allowing children to learn according to their interests, needs, and developmental stages. The successful implementation of loose parts depends on teachers' competencies in designing learning environments, conducting authentic assessment, and collaborating with parents. Therefore, loose parts serve as an effective learning strategy to support creativity development in early childhood within the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

Learning Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at the elementary school level often faces obstacles that stem not only from the curriculum or teaching methodology, but also from the psychological characteristics of children's development that have not been fully considered by educators. This study aims to identify and analyze the problems of PAI learning for elementary school-aged children from the perspective of educational psychology, including cognitive, affective, social-emotional aspects, as well as family environmental factors and teacher teaching methods. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study strategy, involving 48 informants consisting of PAI teachers, parents, students, and school principals, through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and guided group discussions. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model with source triangulation. The results of the study indicate that the dominant problem lies in the gap between the abstract nature of PAI material and the cognitive development stage of children who are still in the concrete operational phase, exacerbated by lecture and memorization methods that lack variation, thus reducing intrinsic motivation.  A pattern of declining affective interest, inversely proportional to increasing cognitive abilities, was also found as children age, indicating a dissonance between pedagogical approaches and children's psychological needs at each developmental stage. This research contributes by offering a five-dimensional analytical framework (cognitive, affective, socio-emotional, family, and teacher methods) that can be used to map the problems of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning more precisely and contextually. The implication is that a reorientation of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning methods is needed based on children's psychological stages, rather than simply the transfer of religious doctrine.
