Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of multicultural management in Islamic educational institutions with a focus on inclusive leadership strategies in managing diversity. The case study was conducted at MTs Negeri 2 Karawang, which has a school community with heterogeneous cultural backgrounds, languages, and levels of religious understanding. The method used was descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques including interviews, observation, and documentation. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The results show that multicultural management in madrasas is implemented through strengthening inclusive leadership, integrating multicultural values into the curriculum, implementing cooperative learning strategies, facilitating cross-cultural social interaction, and increasing teacher capacity through training. This implementation has resulted in increased social cohesion, student tolerance and inclusiveness, and the quality of learning in madrasas. Furthermore, the study found that this success is supported by the implementation of Islamic values such as brotherhood, justice, and deliberation. However, challenges remain, such as resistance from some teachers and parents and limited understanding of multicultural pedagogy. Therefore, a sustainable strengthening strategy is needed to ensure the comprehensive internalization of multicultural values.

Abstract

In the Islamic perspective, humans are positioned as khalifah fil ardh (vicegerents on earth) who bear a theological responsibility to maintain environmental balance as part of a divine trust. Therefore, the development of environmental theology within Islamic education is essential for fostering ecological awareness grounded in the values of tauhid (monotheism), ethics, and moral responsibility. This study aims to analyze the concept of environmental theology from the perspective of Islamic education, examine its integration within the Islamic education system at UIN Raden Intan Lampung, and analyze the implementation of the Green Campus program as its practical manifestation. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and then analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that environmental theology is constructed upon five main principles: tauhid, khalifah, amanah (trust), justice (‘adl), and public benefit (maslahah). The integration of these values is realized through institutional policies, the development of environmentally-based curricula, and campus environmental management programs based on the Green Campus concept. This study recommends that future research employ quantitative or mixed methods approaches to measure the effectiveness of environmental theology implementation on students’ ecological behavior. In addition, comparative studies across universities, as well as exploration of the use of digital technology in strengthening the internalization of environmental theology values, are also needed.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the low level of student learning activeness in Islamic Religious Education (PAI), which is still dominated by teacher-centered learning approaches. The purpose of this study is to conceptually analyze the effectiveness of the Time Token and Talking Stick learning models in improving student learning activeness. This study employs a qualitative approach using a library research method by reviewing relevant scientific literature from the last five years. Data analysis techniques include data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the Time Token model effectively enhances learning activeness through equitable participation in classroom discussions. Meanwhile, the Talking Stick model improves students’ cognitive readiness, confidence, and spontaneous participation. Comparatively, both models have distinct yet complementary characteristics: Time Token emphasizes equitable participation, while Talking Stick focuses on cognitive readiness. The integration of these models contributes to creating active, dialogic, and meaningful PAI learning.

Abstract

The advancement of globalization and modernization has driven significant transformations in the consumption patterns of Indonesian society, which is predominantly Muslim, where Islamic law dynamically adapts through ijtihad and contextual approaches to respond to the halal lifestyle trend that has evolved from a mere religious obligation into a comprehensive way of life encompassing various sectors. This study employs a qualitative method with a literature review approach. The dynamic, flexible, and contextual adaptation of Islamic law in responding to the halal lifestyle trend has encouraged a transformation in consumer behavior toward greater awareness of spiritual, ethical, and sustainability values, while also generating broad social and economic implications, including the strengthening of religious identity, the growth of the halal industry, and increased economic competitiveness, despite ongoing challenges such as access inequality, commodification, and the need for standardization that must be addressed collaboratively.

Abstract

This research discusses the response of the people of Cipari Village, Garut Regency, to the Darul Islam/Tentara Islam Indonesia (DI/TII) rebellion during the period 1949-1962. The main focus is the role of the Cipari Islamic Boarding School led by K.H. Yusuf Tauziri in countering DI/TII ideological extremism while maintaining moderate Islamic values and loyalty to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). This research uses a historical method that includes heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Data were collected through interviews, archival documents, and literature review. The results revealed the importance of the role of pesantren as agents of socio-political change in Indonesia. As a traditional institution, pesantren not only maintain religious values, but also become a moral and social fortress capable of facing the threat of ideological extremism. Cipari Islamic boarding school shows an important contribution in maintaining national integration and fighting separatist movements that threaten the integrity of the nation. K.H. Yusuf Tauziri played a strategic role by leading the Darussalam laskar and the people of Cipari Village to face more than 50 attacks by DI/TII troops. His approach to rejecting DI/TII extremism by emphasizing internal reform, preaching, and defensive resistance, made the Cipari Islamic Boarding School a symbol of strong ideological and physical resistance.

Abstract

Improving teacher competency is a key factor in improving the quality of learning at Madrasah Diniyah Takmiliyah (MDT). Various studies indicate that the main weaknesses of MDT teachers lie in the pedagogical aspect, especially in planning, methods, and evaluation of learning. This study aims to analyze the condition of teacher competency, formulate a competency improvement model, and assess the effectiveness of its implementation at MDT An Najah Pasongsongan Sumenep. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. Data validity was maintained through triangulation and member checking. The results showed that teacher competency is heterogeneous. Professional and personality competencies are relatively good, while pedagogical competency still requires strengthening. The competency improvement model developed is contextual, collaborative, and sustainable through internal coaching, academic supervision, collective discussions, and teaching practice mentoring. The program implementation has had a positive impact on improving the quality of learning and teacher professional awareness, although not evenly distributed. This study confirms that a program based on local madrasah needs is an effective strategy in developing MDT teacher competency.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country with a high level of disaster vulnerability, thus requiring an integrated disaster management system involving various parties, including Islamic philanthropic institutions. Islamic philanthropic institutions have great potential through the management of zakat, infaq, sedekah, and waqf (ZISWAF) funds to support mitigation, emergency response, and post-disaster recovery. However, in practice, various managerial obstacles remain, such as weak strategic planning, institutional coordination, and monitoring and accountability systems. This study aims to formulate a model of managerial readiness of Islamic philanthropic institutions based on Maqāṣid al-Syarī‘ah in disaster management. The study uses a qualitative approach with library research methods. Data were obtained from books, journal articles, research reports, and official documents related to Islamic philanthropy, disaster management, and Maqāṣid al-Syarī‘ah. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, theme categorization, and conceptual synthesis. The results of the study indicate that managerial readiness can be built through the integration of modern management functions with the five dimensions of Maqāṣid al-Syarī‘ah, namely ḥifẓ al-dīn, ḥifẓ al-nafs, ḥifẓ al-‘aql, ḥifẓ al-nasl, and ḥifẓ al-māl. This integration is realized in planning based on life and spiritual protection, organizing through strengthening human resource capacity, implementing programs oriented towards protecting vulnerable groups, and supervision that emphasizes transparency and accountability in the management of ZISWAF funds. Thus, the managerial readiness model based on Maqāṣid al-Syarī‘ah is able to strengthen the professionalism of Islamic philanthropic institutions while providing disaster management that is more effective, sustainable, and oriented towards the welfare of the community.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of the marketing mix—comprising product, price, place, and promotion—on the sales of Bariklana Bakery products at Kopontren Al-Amien Prenduan, both partially and simultaneously, as well as to identify the most dominant variables influencing sales. This study employs an associative quantitative approach using a data collection technique involving the distribution of questionnaires to 159 respondents who are consumers. The data analysis method used is multiple linear regression with the assistance of IBM SPSS software. The results indicate that, individually, the product, price, and place variables have a positive and significant effect on sales, with significance values of 0.000 < 0.05; 0.046 < 0.05; and 0.000 < 0.05, respectively, while the promotion variable does not have a significant effect with a value of 0.518 > 0.05. Simultaneously, all marketing mix variables significantly influence sales, contributing 55.7%, while the remaining 44.3% is influenced by other factors outside the research model. The product variable is the most dominant factor influencing sales, with a standardized coefficient of 0.351. These findings indicate that optimizing product quality is the key to increasing sales at Bariklana Bakery.

Abstract

Competition between Islamic educational institutions, particularly Islamic boarding schools in the archipelago, demands an effective educational marketing strategy to increase competitiveness. The educational marketing mix (product, price, place, promotion, people, process, and physical evidence) is a strategic approach to attract public interest and improve service quality. Darul Musyawirien Islamic Boarding School and Al-Barkah Islamic Boarding School in Pagerungan Kecil, Sapeken, Sumenep have different characteristics, strategies, and challenges in their implementation. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the marketing mix strategy in both Islamic boarding schools, identify strengths and weaknesses, and examine supporting and inhibiting factors in increasing competitiveness in the archipelago. The study uses a qualitative approach with a comparative study method through interviews, observation, and documentation, and is analyzed using an interactive analysis model that includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that Darul Musyawirien Islamic Boarding School excels in service innovation, student skill development, and the use of educational technology, while Al-Barkah Islamic Boarding School excels in its religious positioning as a tahfidz Islamic boarding school and its affordable tuition fees, thus having high social appeal. Both Islamic boarding schools face obstacles in the form of limited technological infrastructure, facilities, and geographical conditions. Therefore, a simple social media-based digital strategy is needed, strengthening alumni networks and partnerships, and adaptive hybrid learning to increase the effectiveness of the marketing mix and sustainable competitiveness.

Abstract

Law Number 18 of 2019 concerning Islamic Boarding Schools (Pesantren) provides formal recognition and pressure for standardization of Islamic boarding school curricula. This study aims to analyze the existence and transformation of Islamic boarding school curricula post-law, identify challenges and opportunities for implementation, and explore stakeholder responses. This study uses a qualitative approach with a comparative multi-case study design. The research locations are the Al-Hamidy Islamic Boarding School in Banyuanyar (Salafiyah) and the Ma'had TMI Al-Amien Prenduan (Modern) in Sumenep Regency, Madura. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document study. Data analysis used the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model with two levels: within-case and cross-case analysis. Data validity was maintained through triangulation of sources and methods. The findings reveal distinct patterns of adaptation. The Salafiyah Islamic boarding school (Al-Hamidy) demonstrates a fundamental transformation from a standardized oral to a written curriculum, but maintains the essence of the yellow books by making the national curriculum an extracurricular activity (selective resistance). In contrast, modern Islamic boarding schools (TMI), which have had a mature curriculum since 1971, demonstrate strong continuity; the law actually serves as a legal umbrella that strengthens the existing system (creative adaptation). Stakeholder responses are diverse: caregivers are adaptive and negotiative, educators (teachers) feel new administrative burdens but are motivated by devotion to the kiai, and students respond positively with the hope of mastering religious and general knowledge. The existence of the Islamic boarding school curriculum after Law No. 18/2019 has not disappeared but has transformed, marked by a dialectic between traditional autonomy and demands for standardization. The implication is that the government needs to adopt a differentiated policy approach and technical assistance to accommodate the diversity of Islamic boarding school models. Institutional theory is enriched by showing that coercive pressure (coercive isomorphism) does not always eliminate the uniqueness of the institution if balanced with a strong negotiation strategy.
