Abstract

Stunting is when a child's body length or height is less than their age. Several factors cause stunting, including energy and nutritional intake, and babies born with low birth weight (LBW). Apart from being found in milk, sources of protein and calcium can also be found in various other foods, both animal and vegetable. One source of protein and calcium is green beans and anchovies. This research was conducted in Telaga Sari Village, Tanjung Morawa District, Deli Serdang Regency. This research aims to determine how giving premix cookies mung bean and anchovy prevents toddler stunting. This type of research is quasi-experimental with a pretest–post-test research design. The sample in this study was 60 toddlers, with 30 intervention groups and 30 control groups. Where before and after the treatment, body height was measured. Analysis was carried out in the research using the t-test with a confidence level of 95%. The results of the study showed that the mean TB/U before giving premix cookies mung bean and anchovy in the intervention group was -0.99 ± 2.332, and after giving the results showed it was -0.02 ± 1.562, while the control group had a TB / U of -0 .05±1.785. Conclusion: The results of the dependent t-test obtained p=0.001 (p≤0.05), which means that there is a significant effect before and after giving premix cookies mung bean and anchovy on the prevention of stunting in toddlers with a difference in the average TB/U of toddlers of -0.97.

Abstract

Stunting is a problem of chronic malnutrition caused by a lack of nutritional intake in the past and a failure to achieve physical development as measured by height for age. This research aims to analyze the effect of stunting coaching training on the knowledge and skills of midwives and cadres. This research was conducted in Tarutung Regency. The research used a quasi-experimental method with a "Pretest-Posttest One Group Design" design. The target selection for training participants was purposive, namely midwives and cadres in stunting locus areas with the highest percentage of stunted toddlers. The sample in this study was 15 people (9 people were midwives, and 6 were health cadres). The evaluation results were analyzed using the Paired T-Test with the SPSS Version 22 application. The research results show that Training for midwives and health cadres saw an increase in the average knowledge score of 34.67, and all training participants were in the excellent knowledge category regarding stunting coaching training. The results of statistical tests using paired t-test statistics show a difference in the average knowledge of stunting coaching training participants before and after the Training with p-value = 0.001. Midwife and cadres always provide outreach in the form of information and education about stunting so that mothers with toddlers can participate or attend to listen to the outreach to motivate them to want to prevent stunting. Researchers also hope that families can provide good emotional, informational, and instrumental support to mothers to create healthy behavior and prevent stunting.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of gargling with lemon juice (Citrus lemon) and betel leaf decoction (Piper betle) on the Debris Index and saliva pH among elementary school students in Aceh Besar District. The background of this research is rooted in the high prevalence of dental caries and other oral health issues in Indonesia, particularly among children. The methodology employed is a quasi-experimental design with two treatment groups, where one group gargles with lemon juice and the other with betel leaf decoction. The results of the study indicate that gargling with betel leaf decoction significantly increases saliva pH (an increase of 1.34) and reduces oral acidity, which is crucial for preventing enamel demineralization and lowering the risk of cavities. Conversely, lemon juice demonstrates a significant reduction in the Debris Index (a decrease of 1.3), highlighting its effectiveness in cleaning plaque and food residues from teeth in the short term. While lemon juice is effective for quick cleaning, its use must be approached with caution due to its strong acidic nature, which can damage tooth enamel if used excessively. In conclusion, this study asserts that betel leaf decoction is superior for long-term use in maintaining oral health, while lemon juice is more effective for quick cleaning but should be used judiciously. These findings emphasize the importance of selecting appropriate oral care methods, particularly in populations at higher risk for dental issues.

Abstract

Healthcare workers, including midwives, face a high risk of disease, including the coronavirus. It is expected that healthcare workers possess good knowledge and behavior regarding the management of care for pregnant women, childbirth, newborns, and the handling of emergency complications during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aims to explore the behavior of healthcare workers in providing health services to mothers and children during the COVID-19 pandemic. This descriptive study employs a cross-sectional design, involving all midwives in Aceh Province, with data collection conducted through Google Forms from June to July 2021. The results indicate that there is no relationship between age, length of service, and sources of health information with the behavior of healthcare workers in providing health services to mothers and children during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, there is a significant relationship between knowledge and COVID-19 prevention behavior, with a p-value of 0.000. In conclusion, healthcare workers with higher knowledge are more likely to exhibit good behavior in preventing the spread of COVID-19. Therefore, it is important to continue enhancing their knowledge, particularly regarding virus transmission, to strengthen supportive behaviors and contribute to breaking the chain of COVID-19 transmission.
