Abstract

Diabetes is a silent killer. Diabetes mellitus (DM) occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or the body cannot use insulin effectively. DM is often characterised by chronic hyperglycemia. Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is one of the Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), which is a public health problem and has a relatively high number of sufferers in the world. Many ways are used to treat and prevent DM, including changing to a healthier lifestyle and using modern medicine or herbal medicine that can improve hyperglycemia in DM patients. This study was conducted to determine the effects of cinnamon extract with a dose of 120 mg / kgBW / day orally, moderate swimming exercise, and intermittent fasting for 19 days on T2DM Rats. The study shows that there was a significant increase (p<0.005) in Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG) between day 1 and day 4 in the untreated group. In the group given metformin, there was a significant change in FBS on day 1 and day 4. In the group given cinnamon extract, there was a change in FBG on days 1 and 4 (increase) and days 10 and 13 (decrease). In the swimming group, there was an increase in FBG on day 1 and day 4 and a significant decrease in FBS on days 10 and 14, while in intermittent fasting, there was an increase in FBS on day 1 and day 4, which was statistically significant. Increases and decreases in lipid and Malondialdehyde (MDA) profiles were also present in each treatment group. The conclusion is that cinnamon bark extract, moderate-intensity swimming exercise, and intermittent fasting impact fasting blood glucose levels, lipid profiles, and MDA in Diabetes induced rats.

Abstract

Medical waste management is a critical component in safeguarding public health and environmental sustainability. It is also an essential factor in ensuring effective and safe operations at healthcare facilities, requiring a well-trained and competent workforce. This study aims to assess the current level of knowledge and attitudes of final-year nursing students at Nam Dinh University of Nursing, Vietnam, regarding medical waste segregation. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 240 final-year nursing students. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire comprising three sections: personal demographic information, knowledge of medical waste segregation, and attitudes toward the practice. Descriptive statistics and inferential analyses, including t-tests and chi-square tests, were used to explore associations between knowledge and attitudes and factors such as gender, academic performance, and self-study habits. Results: Only 41.3% of students demonstrated adequate knowledge regarding medical waste segregation, and up to 65% exhibited negative or non-positive attitudes toward the issue. Academic performance and self-directed learning habits were significantly associated with both knowledge and attitudes. Students with higher academic achievement and regular self-study routines tended to have better knowledge and more positive attitudes. The findings reveal that both knowledge and attitudes toward medical waste segregation among nursing students at Nam Dinh University of Nursing remain limited. Enhancing the nursing curriculum, raising awareness, and providing specialized training sessions on medical waste management are essential steps to strengthen public health protection efforts.

Abstract

Postnatal depression remains a critical public health concern that adversely affects both maternal well-being and infant development, particularly in low-resource settings. This quasi-experimental study aimed to examine the effect of Family-Centered Maternity Care (FCMC) on the incidence and severity of postnatal depression among postpartum mothers in the working area of Puskesmas Lubuk Alung, Indonesia. A total of 85 postpartum mothers were recruited, and 30 received a structured two-week FCMC intervention involving home visits, emotional support, and health education delivered with family involvement. Postnatal depression was assessed using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) before and six weeks after the intervention. The results revealed a significant reduction in the prevalence of depressive symptoms, decreasing from 73.3% to 20.0% (p = 0.0001). Multivariate analysis showed that low family support (AOR = 13.28), low maternal education (AOR = 5.45), and emotional stress within the first 72 hours postpartum (AOR = 8.76) were significant predictors of postnatal depression. Although age and parity were not statistically significant, younger and primiparous mothers showed higher tendencies toward depressive symptoms. These findings underscore the importance of integrating FCMC into postpartum care services, particularly in culturally collectivist societies where family involvement can enhance maternal psychological resilience. Early implementation of FCMC may offer a cost-effective and scalable strategy to address postnatal mental health challenges and improve overall maternal health outcomes in primary care settings.

Abstract

Background and Objective: Patient compliance in undergoing dental treatment is a crucial factor for the success of therapy. However, it is often influenced by various factors, including psychological conditions such as anxiety levels. Therefore, this study aimed to determine whether there is a relationship between anxiety levels and patient compliance in receiving dental treatment at Cut Mutia General Hospital, North Aceh. Methods: This research employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. Data were collected using structured questionnaires distributed to outpatients in the dental care unit. The relationship between anxiety levels and patient compliance was analyzed using the Chi-Square statistical test. Results: The analysis revealed a statistically significant relationship between anxiety levels and patient compliance in undergoing dental treatment (Chi-Square value = 9.574; p = 0.008). Patients with mild anxiety exhibited a compliance rate of 64%, while those who felt calm showed the highest compliance rate at 84.6%. In contrast, patients with moderate anxiety demonstrated the lowest compliance rate at only 25%. These findings indicate that lower anxiety levels are associated with higher patient compliance in following dental treatment recommendations. Conclusion and Recommendation: The study concludes that there is a significant statistical relationship between anxiety levels and patient compliance in dental care at Cut Mutia General Hospital, North Aceh. Patients with lower anxiety tend to show higher compliance. It is recommended to implement psychological interventions, including educational approaches and empathetic communication, to reduce anxiety and enhance patient adherence to dental treatment procedures.

Abstract

Low public awareness regarding oral hygiene can lead to a high prevalence of dental diseases such as caries and periodontal conditions. Health education using appropriate media is expected to improve public knowledge, one of which is through poster media. Objective: To determine the effect of dental health education using poster media on improving patients’ knowledge of oral hygiene at Aceh Jaya Public Health Center. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group approach. A total of 58 patients were assigned to both the intervention and control groups using purposive sampling. The intervention group received dental health education using posters, while the control group received no intervention. A validated questionnaire on toothbrushing knowledge was used as the assessment tool. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test due to non-normal data distribution. There was a statistically significant increase in knowledge in both the intervention group (p = 0.000) and the control group (p = 0.007), with a greater improvement observed in the intervention group. All respondents in the intervention group either showed improvement or maintained their knowledge level, with no decrease observed. Dental health education using poster media is effective in increasing patients’ knowledge of oral hygiene at Aceh Jaya Public Health Center. This method is recommended as part of health promotion strategies in primary healthcare settings.

Abstract

Children’s oral health is significantly influenced by parental involvement, particularly maternal parenting practices in daily care routines. This study aimed to analyze the effect of maternal parenting within the context of dental nursing care on behavioral changes and oral hygiene status among primary school children in Banda Aceh. A quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test control group was employed. The sample consisted of 60 children aged 7–8 years and their mothers, divided into an intervention group (n = 30), which received structured education and supervised parenting guidance, and a control group (n = 30), which only received educational modules. Data were collected at three stages: pre-test, post-test I (immediately after the intervention), and post-test II (two weeks later). Findings revealed a significant improvement in mothers’ knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding dental health in the intervention group compared to the control group (p < 0.05). Furthermore, the oral hygiene status of children, measured by the Patient Hygiene Performance-Modified (PHP-M) index, showed a statistically significant reduction in scores in the intervention group, indicating better oral cleanliness, while no significant changes were observed in the control group (p > 0.05). These results demonstrate that parenting-based dental health education effectively enhances maternal involvement in guiding and supervising children’s oral care, thereby fostering improved oral health behaviors and hygiene outcomes. The study concludes that maternal parenting approaches within dental nursing care have a substantial impact on improving both maternal dental health practices and children’s oral hygiene status.
