Journal of Health Science and Medical Therapy (JHSMT) is an electronic, open-access, peer-reviewed journal. It publishes research articles in the areas of health policy, health planning, health system, and health care management, with a special focus on low- and middle-income countries. The journal began its publication in 2023, and it is published twice yearly. JHSMT provides a platform for publishing original and high-quality research that addresses questions pertinent to policy-makers, healthcare managers, public health researchers, and healthcare practitioners. The journal covers a broad range of topics from different fields, notably health policy, health management, health economics, epide­mi­ology, social/public policy, and philosophy. JHSMT welcomes studies using multi­dis­cipli­nary or integrative approaches. Special encouragement is given to research papers addressing health issues in developing countries, as health policy and management issues impacting populations in the deve­lop­ing world are currently under-documented and underreported in the existing interna­tional journals.

Abstract

The increasing number of people affected by the Covid-19 virus is due to society's lack of preparation for the arrival of this disease. Today's pandemic conditions have increased the number of victims every time, so a strategy is needed to overcome the spread of COVID-19. The research location in this study was at several health institutions, and data was collected from various communities. The research location was carried out in the city of Medan through various health agencies. The research results show that maintaining distance and using medical equipment such as masks are the right strategies to overcome the spread of COVID-19. This is proven by various communities starting to comply with the rules, and the spread of COVID-19 can be reduced. This research concludes that maintaining distance and using masks is the most appropriate strategy for reducing the spread of COVID-19 in Medan.

Abstract

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease associated with cartilage damage in the joints, involving a complex interactive process of joint degradation, consisting of repair processes in the cartilage, bone, and synovium followed by secondary components of inflammation. This disease is commonly found in patients over the age of 50. This study aims to investigate the effects of TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) and Retrowalking on functional activity in osteoarthritis knee in the year 2023. The research design employed is a quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The population in this study was 232 individuals, with a sample size of 10 respondents. Sampling technique was done through purposive sampling. Bivariate analysis results indicate the impact of TENS and Retrowalking on functional activity in osteoarthritis knee, with an average increase in functional activity of 23.270 and a significance level (α) of 0.005. It can be concluded that TENS and Retrowalking have been shown to affect the increase in functional activity in osteoarthritis knee. Therefore, it is hoped that hospitals can implement TENS and Retrowalking interventions for osteoarthritis knee patients.

Abstract

Effective communication is an important element in professional nursing practice and a major element of patient safety goals because communication is the first cause of patient safety issues. The purpose of this study is to examine effective communication based on situation techniques, background techniques, assessment techniques and recommendation techniques for patient safety at Bhayangkara Kendari Hospital. Type of research with a cross-sectional approach. Data analysis was performed with SPSS statistical tests using univariate, bivariate and multivariate analysis. The sample in this study was 93 people, the sampling technique is a total sampling method.The results of this study showed that the situation technique had an insignificant influence on patient safety at Bhayangkara Kendari hospital with p values of 0.710 > 0.05. The background technique has an insignificant influence on patient safety at Bhayangkara Kendari hospital with p values of 0.234 > 0.05. The assessment technique has a significant influence on patient safety at Bhayangkara Kendari Hospital with p values of 0.003 < 0.05. The recommendation technique has a significant influence on patient safety at Bhayangkara Kendari hospital with p values of 0.031 < 0.05. For the nursing profession, the results of this research can improve the quality of service by sharing experiences. Future research will need to explore other factors that affect patient safety, such as infection prevention and fall risk, to support improved hospital care practices.

Abstract

Nurse performance is the effort of nurses in carrying out their duties and responsibilities to the best of their abilities, in order to achieve the main goals of the profession and organizational objectives. The purpose of this study is to examine the physical work environment's impact on the performance of nurses in the Inpatient Ward of Kendari City Hospital, the non-physical work environment's impact on the performance of nurses in the Inpatient Ward of Kendari City Hospital, and organizational commitment's impact on the performance of nurses in the Inpatient Ward of Kendari City Hospital. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS statistical tests including univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analyses. The sample size for this study was 95 individuals, and the sampling technique used was the census method. The results of this study indicate that the physical work environment significantly influences the performance of nurses in the Inpatient Ward of Kendari City Hospital with a p-value of 0.028 < 0.05. The non-physical work environment also significantly influences the performance of nurses in the Inpatient Ward of Kendari City Hospital with a p-value of 0.009 < 0.05. Organizational commitment significantly influences the performance of nurses in the Inpatient Ward of Kendari City Hospital with a p-value of 0.017 < 0.05. Recommendations from this study include the need for management to improve the physical work environment, particularly in terms of ventilation and cleanliness, to enable nurses to perform well

Abstract

Primary Healthcare is one of the most important health service units in health services that are adapted to local government conditions, needs, requirements and regulations. Recording data at the Primary Healthcare manually takes a long time. When a patient forgets to bring a medical card, it takes a long time to get the file which results in a long time in the registration service process, if the file is not found it is necessary to create a new file. will be automatically created, resulting in duplication of data. Most patients forget to bring their medical card when they want to take it. In addition, when making monthly reports, officials must record data one by one as a monthly report. The use of this application is to increase the effectiveness of the information system for the patient registration Primary Healthcare based on the website and the BPJS application called JKN BPJS.

Abstract

Sleep disorders or insomnia is one of the disorders that frequently occurs in the elderly. The treatment that can be given for sleep disorders that occur in the elderly is aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is a treatment technique using the aroma of essential oils resulting from the distillation process of various parts of plants, flowers and trees that contain therapeutic properties. Aromatherapy can provide stimulation to the olfactory cortex which stimulates the brain and impulses reach the limbic system, thereby affecting mood. This research is a quasi-experimental study with a pre-posttest design. The population in this study were all elderly people in the Rindang Asih I Nursing Home in Semarang. The results of the Friedman effect test in this study with a p-value = 0.000. The administration of aromatherapy had an effect on the sleep quality of the elderly in the Rindang Asih I Nursing Home in Semarang.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to examine the influence of skills on the satisfaction of service personnel in the Medical and Health Affairs of the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police Department. Analyzing the knowledge towards the satisfaction of service personnel in the Medical and Health Affairs of the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police Department. Analyzing the social roles towards the satisfaction of service personnel in the Medical and Health Affairs of the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police Department. Analyzing the self-image towards the satisfaction of service personnel in the Medical and Health Affairs of the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police Department. Analyzing the attitudes towards the satisfaction of service personnel in the Medical and Health Affairs of the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police Department. This research adopts a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study consists of 351 personnel. The results of this study indicate that skills significantly influence the satisfaction of service personnel in the Medical and Health Affairs of the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police Department. Knowledge significantly influences the satisfaction of service personnel in the Medical and Health Affairs of the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police Department. Social roles significantly influence the satisfaction of service personnel in the Medical and Health Affairs of the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police Department. Self-image has no significant effect on service satisfaction for Medical and Health Personnel at the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police. Attitudes significantly influence the satisfaction of service personnel in the Medical and Health Affairs of the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police Department.

Abstract

Despite advances in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, patients still suffer from the various physical  and psychological complications of cancer. Patients in palliative care often experience symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and pain. Managing the symptoms experienced by patients is important in improving the patient's quality of life. Effective management of these symptoms can be done by applying complementary therapies. In this regard, papermint aromatherapy can be used as a potential complementary treatment for symptom management in palliative care. This study aimed to determine the impact of papermint aromatherapy applied to patients in palliative care on the management of symptoms of nausea and vomiting. This research uses quasi-experimental research (single group study without a control group. One-Group Pretest Posttest research design is a measurement before and after treatment. The tool used in this research is a scale for assessing symptoms of nausea. The instrument used for variables dependent, namely to measure the intensity of nausea and vomiting felt by the client using the Rhodes Index for Nausea, Vomiting, and Retching (INVR). The nausea and vomiting scale at 0 indicates no nausea and vomiting, scale 1 indicates mild nausea and vomiting moderate, scale 3 indicates severe nausea and vomiting, and scale 4 indicates severe nausea and vomiting. For the independent variable, use the observation sheet. Findings revealed this study showed significant changes in scale scores, indicating the effectiveness of papermint aromatherapy on symptoms of nausea and vomiting commonly encountered in palliative care. The use of aromatherapy with papermint to treat nausea and vomiting has a p value of 0.027%.  Based on this research, parents need to receive information about children with good delivery techniques, according to parents' needs, honestly, openly, in more detail about the child's condition and in accordance with procedures.

Abstract

The Irreversible brain disorders that cause sequelae in the form of motor aphasia or speech disorders which are mostly clinical manifestations in post-stroke patients cause inability to move, speech problems, perspective, because there are problems with brain function. Melodic Intonation Therapy (MIT) is the development of music as a therapeutic medium to improve language skills that use musical elements (intonation and beats) as therapy to improve language skills for people with aphasia. The purpose of this study is to analyze Melodic Intonation Therapy (MIT) on Speech Ability in Stroke Patients With Aphasia with the research stage based on field research in the Srondol community who experienced Stroke with speech difficulties/Aphasia. This research method uses an experimental quasy with a pre-post test with control group design with a sample of 30 respondents with the results of speech development of aphasia patients, international publications, and guidelines for the management of Melodic Intonation Therapy (MIT) in Stroke Patients with Aphasia. Based on the results of the study, it was found that patients who experienced stroke of the families of stroke patients supported him because family support was very important to maintain and maximize physical and cognitive recovery.

Abstract

The level of anxiety in mothers giving birth becomes arrhythmic in the birth experience and can have a long-term impact on the well-being of the mother and baby. This study aims to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and family support and the level of maternal anxiety during the first stage of labor. Descriptive analytical research type with cross sectional emphasis with a total sample of 31 primigravida mothers in the first stage of labor. The results showed most respondents had a moderate level of anxiety (48.9%), most respondents (77.4%) had a low level of knowledge and most respondents (58.1%) had good family support. The chi square statistical test shows that there is a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and family support and the anxiety level of mothers in the first stage of labor with p values ​​of 0.046 and 0.006 (p value < 0.05), respectively. The level of knowledge and family support is related to the level of anxiety of mothers in the 1st stage of labor.
