Abstract

Low mathematics learning outcomes in elementary schools highlight the need for a systematic review of self-regulated learning (SRL) as a strategy to improve learning quality. This study aims to synthesize empirical studies on SRL in elementary school mathematics through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) guided by PRISMA 2020. A total of 37 articles published between 2021 and 2026 were identified and analyzed using the MMAT 2018 quality appraisal tool. Findings reveal that quasi-experimental designs dominate research in this field, with Zimmerman's SRL cycle model as the most frequently referenced theoretical framework. Five groups of SRL-based interventions were identified, namely cooperative learning models, adaptive digital technology, explicit teacher instruction, metacognitive and feedback approaches, and contextual learning materials, all of which demonstrated positive impacts on student learning outcomes and mathematical abilities. The success of SRL implementation is determined by teacher instruction quality, technological support, and social engagement, while the main barriers include limited teacher competence and curriculum density. This study recommends the systematic integration of SRL into the regular curriculum and the development of standardized SRL measurement instruments for the elementary school context.

Abstract

The main problem underlying this study is the low reading comprehension skills of Grade V elementary school students. This study aims to examine the effect of the Index Card Match (ICM) cooperative learning model assisted by Wordwall media on students' reading comprehension skills, and to compare its improvement with the Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) model assisted by PowerPoint. A quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design was employed. The sample consisted of 55 students (28 in the experimental class and 27 in the control class), selected through cluster random sampling. Data processing was conducted on test data in the form of pre-test and post-test, supported by non-test data in the form of observation sheets. The results showed a positive and significant effect of 69.3% from the implementation of the ICM cooperative learning model assisted by Wordwall media on students' reading comprehension skills. Furthermore, a significant difference in improvement was found between the two classes (Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05), with the experimental class achieving an N-Gain of 0.56 (moderately effective) and the control class 0.33 (ineffective). Therefore, the Index Card Match cooperative learning model assisted by Wordwall media is proven to be more effective in improving reading comprehension skills of Grade V elementary school students compared to the STAD model assisted by PowerPoint.

Abstract

The change in the curriculum is an effort by the government to improve the quality of education and adapt the learning process to the demands of the times. Implementation of an Independent Curriculum as an improvement. The 2013 curriculum demands readiness as well as teacher adaptation to carry out learning. This research aims to describe teachers' responses to changes in the curriculum at the education level. The research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive qualitative design. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with the head of the school and teachers with long and short service periods, and were supported by study documentation. Data analysis uses the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and withdrawal. Conclusion and verification. Research results show that teachers' responses to the 2013 Curriculum regarding the Independent Curriculum are diverse and influenced by teaching experience. Teachers with long tenure tend to experience challenges in adapting to the paradigm of learning. Meanwhile, teachers with shorter work periods show greater openness to change because they have more space to innovate in learning. Support from the school through training, mentoring, and strengthening collaboration among teachers is an important factor in the successful implementation of the Independent Curriculum. Findings from the study show that collaboration between teachers and experience with different teaching practices can strengthen the adaptation process to curriculum changes at the elementary education level.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are one of the essential competencies that elementary school students need to possess in order to meet the demands of 21st-century learning. The development of critical thinking skills is a key focus in elementary education because it contributes to improving the quality of learning and students’ readiness to tackle various complex problems. However, findings from field observations and previous research indicate the opposite—that the critical thinking skills of elementary school students have not yet developed optimally. This study aims to analyze the effect of implementing the TGT model supported by the Baamboozle media on the critical thinking skills of elementary school students and to determine the improvement in critical thinking skills among students who received instruction using the Team Games Tournament model supported by the Baamboozle media compared to students who received instruction using the Think Pair and Share model supported by the Baamboozle media. This study employed a quasi-experimental method using a non-equivalent control group design. The sample consisted of fifth-grade students at SDN Harapan Mulya I, comprising 23 students in the experimental group and 23 students in the control group. Research data were collected through critical thinking ability tests administered before and after the intervention and were subsequently analyzed using inferential statistical tests. The results show that the implementation of the TGT model supported by the Baamboozle media had a 58.5% effect on students’ critical thinking skills, and that the improvement in critical thinking skills among students who participated in learning using the TGT model supported by Baamboozle was higher than that of students who participated in learning using the TPS model supported by Baamboozle. Thus, the TGT model supported by Baamboozle media can serve as an effective alternative for IPAS instruction in supporting the development of critical thinking skills among elementary school students.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of Simulation-Based Learning (SBL) in improving students’ ability to conduct inferential statistical analysis using SPSS. The research employed a quantitative approach with a sample of 31 students, utilizing observation and testing as data collection methods. Statistical analysis was conducted through normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis testing. The results of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk tests indicated that both pre-test and post-test data were not normally distributed (p < 0.05). Furthermore, Levene’s test revealed that the data did not meet the assumption of homogeneity of variances. Consequently, non-parametric analysis was applied using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The Wilcoxon test results showed a Z value of -4.794 with a significance level of 0.000 (p < 0.05), confirming a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores. These findings demonstrate that SBL is effective in enhancing students’ statistical analysis skills, particularly in applying inferential tests through SPSS. Overall, this research provides empirical evidence that SBL is a powerful pedagogical approach for bridging theoretical knowledge and practical application in statistical learning, thereby equipping students with essential competencies for academic and professional contexts.
