Abstract

This research aims to describe the classification of emotions in the novel Surga Yang Tak Missed by Asma Nadia. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method with a literary psychology approach. The data source used is the novel Heaven that is Not Missed by Asma Nadia with a thickness of 300 pages and the data used is in the form of quotes or paragraphs that describe the form of emotional classification. Data was collected using reading and note-taking techniques and analyzed by identifying forms of emotional classification, grouping, and inferring or drawing conclusions from the data obtained. The results of the research show that in the novel Heaven that is Not Missed there are seven forms of emotional classification according to David Krech's perspective, namely: the emotional classification of guilt is 2 data, the feeling of buried guilt is 2 data, self-punishment is 2 data, shame is 3 data, sadness with 6 data, hatred with 3 data, and classification of emotions in the form of love with 2 data. From the research above, it can be concluded that the most dominant data is the classification of emotions in the form of sadness

Abstract

One of the sources of Islamic teachings is the hadith, which is the revelation or words conveyed by the Prophet Muhammad to his companions. Because the number of companions is large and each has a different level of understanding and capacity, it is not uncommon for the narrated hadith to have varying redactions, although the meaning remains similar. These editorial variations may affect the way the message is conveyed, but the essence remains consistent. This study aims to analyze the Prophet Muhammad's hadith about istiqamah using the Generative Transformation theory developed by Noam Chomsky. In this study, the two traditions that become the object of study are the traditions narrated by Imam Al-Darimi and Imam Ibn Majah. These two traditions will be analyzed through a descriptive qualitative text analysis approach, focusing on identifying the surface structure and deep structure of the two traditions. This analysis is expected to provide a deeper understanding of the differences and similarities that exist in the redaction of the hadith, as well as reveal the meaning contained therein. Thus, this study aims not only to understand the linguistic aspects of the traditions, but also to explore the messages contained in Islamic teachings, especially related to the concept of istiqamah

Abstract

People nowadays often communicate using multiple languages. When the speaker uses two or more languages, regularly switching and blending them when communicating is known as code-switching. This research aims to find out and show readers the types of code-switching and why code-switching is used in Tomohiro Yamashita's YouTube channel vlogs. In this research, the writer used the descriptive qualitative research design. The theories proposed by (Poplack, 1980) were used to classify the types of code-switching and theories by (Hoffmann, 1991) were used to find out the reasons of using code-switching. In the 1st video, there were 66 data of code-switching found with 50 (75.76%) inter-sentential, 9 (13.64%) intra-sentential, and 7 (10.6%) tag-switching. In the 2nd video, there were 84 data of code-switching found with 57 (67.86%) inter-sentential, 25 (29.76%) intra-sentential, and 2 (2.38%) tag-switching. In the 3rd video, there were 29 data of code-switching found with 17 (58.62%) inter-sentential, 11 (37.93%) intra-sentential, and 1 (3.45%) tag-switching. In the 4th video, there were 23 data of code-switching found with 12 (52.17%) inter-sentential, 11 (47.83%) intra-sentential, and 0 tag-switching. In the 5th video, there were 7 data of code-switching with 4 (57.14%) inter-sentential, 3 (42.86%) intra-sentential, and 0 tag-switching. Besides that, the writer also found several reasons for using code-switching in Tomohiro Yamashita's YouTube channel vlogs, including, talking about particular topic, be emphatic about something, interjection, repetition used for clarification, and intention of clarifying the speech content for interlocutor.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the conflict of the main characters in the drama Lautan Bernyanyi by Putu Wijaya. This research method uses a descriptive qualitative approach from a literature perspective with the object being the drama manuscript Lautan Bernyanyi by Putu Wijaya. The data collected in this research is in the form of books, journals and notes. Data collection was carried out using reading, note-taking and library techniques. This method is used to explain the conflict between the main characters in the drama Lautan Bernyanyi by Putu Wijay in order to gain new knowledge about how the conflict occurred. The results of this research show that there are several conflicts experienced by the main characters in the drama Lautan Bernyanyi by Putu Wijaya. The conflicts are in the form of internal and external conflicts. In external conflict there is social conflict and physical conflict. The internal conflicts contained in this drama script are: (1) distrust and; (2) regret. Meanwhile, the external conflicts that researchers found in this drama script are: (1) resistance and; (2) threats

Abstract

Video editing, there are many specific terms used by an editor. These terms form a register that can explain the use of features in the context of doing something in editing. This study aims to analyze the use of register in video editing in the InShot application. The method used is descriptive qualitative with Halliday's register theory approach. The results show that there are 16 open registers and 13 closed registers in InShot video editing application. The findings show that InShot app users adapt to the social context and reflect the language dynamics that develop among InShot app users. This research provides insights into how technology affects users' language use and comprehension in the context of video editing

Abstract

The relationship between morphology and syntax is a fundamental aspect of linguistic analysis. Morphology plays a role in word formation through processes such as affixation, reduplication, and composition, while syntax organizes the arrangement of these words into meaningful sentence structures. This research aims to examine the relationship between these two aspects in Indonesian by using a qualitative descriptive approach. The data used in the study were obtained from various written sources, including grammar books, journals of scientific articles of literary works. The results show that morphological changes in a word can affect its syntactic function, for example through the derivation process which allows a verb to function as a noun in a sentence. In addition, it was found that the understanding of morphosyntax is still limited, even among linguistics students. Therefore, more interactive and example-based learning methods are needed to improve the understanding of this concept. The findings from this study have implications in the areas of language education, translation, and natural language processing. A better understanding of the relationship between morphology and syntax allows for more in-depth linguistic analysis, thereby improving communication effectiveness in various academic and practical contexts

Abstract

The use of slang by generation Z which is increasingly widespread due to the influence of social media can affect the use of good and correct Indonesian. This research aims to analyze the phenomenon of the use of slang in generation Z in social media which is feared to undermine the sense of nationalism because it contradicts the legacy of the youth pledge, namely Indonesian. The method used in this research is a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The data collection used was by conducting interviews with five respondents while listening and recording the data obtained. After that, the researcher identified two main aspects, namely the impact of slang on social media among generation Z and generation Z's attitude towards the frequent use of slang rather than good and correct Indonesian. The results of this study show that Generation Z tends to use more slang in their daily lives, both in real life and on social media. The use of Indonesian language in accordance with the rules is only used in certain formal situations such as academic environments by most of generation Z. The conclusion of this study is that generation Z realizes that slang can make nationalism fade because they almost always use slang and forget the use of Indonesian language according to the rules

Menerjemahkan idiom ke dalam bahasa lain dapat menjadi rumit dan menantang karena idiom tidak dapat diterjemahkan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji idiom dalam bahasa Inggris dan penerjemahannya ke dalam bahasa Indonesia. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah idiom dari film “Spellbound”. Peneliti menggunakan metode analisis dokumen kualitatif (Morgan, 2022). Peneliti menemukan 22 idiom dalam film Spellbound. Penelitian ini menghasilkan idiom yang diterjemahkan menjadi idiom sebesar 2.72%, sedangkan yang diterjemahkan menjadi non-idiom sebesar 77.3%. Penelitian ini juga menemukan tiga strategi penerjemahan dari 8 yang digunakan untuk menerjemahkan idiom. Hasilnya adalah: penerjemahan dengan kata-kata yang lebih umum 45.5%, kata-kata netral/kurang ekspresif 31.8%, dan penerjemahan dengan parafrase 22.7%.Kata kunci: strategi penerjemahan; ekspresi idiomatik; penerjemahan idiom; film Spellbound.AbstractIdioms are fixed groups of words that have a specific meaning. Translating idioms into other languages can be complicated and challenging because idioms cannot be translated. This study aims to examine idioms in English and their translation into Indonesian. The data used in this study are idioms from the movie “Spellbound.” The researcher used a qualitative document analysis method (Morgan, 2022). The researcher found 22 idioms in the Spellbound movie. This study resulted in idioms translated into idioms of 22.7%, while those translated into non-idioms were 77.3%. This study also found three translation strategies from 8 used to translate idioms. The results are: translation with more common words 45.5%, neutral/less expressive words 31.8%, and translation with paraphrases 22.7%.

Abstract

This article aims to examine and describe the narratological aspects in the folktale book Asal Mula Situ Patenggang. This study uses a structural theory based on Vladimir Propp's narratology. The research method used is descriptive analytic driven by structural theory by using reading, listening, and note-taking techniques. The results of this analysis are the analysis of the narrative structure in the folktale book Asal Mula Situ Patenggang written by Asep Setiawan and U. Syahbudin. The analysis of the narrative structure shows that Propp's narratological aspect has three stages, namely the function of the actor, the story pattern, and the distribution of functions among the actors. The results of the analysis focus on when the folktale begins, namely from the title of the story part 2 to 11. The hero in this story is Eyang Jagasatru. The supporting actors are several characters who have roles as donors, helpers, intermediaries, and false heroes. From these three stages, thirteen actor functions, three story patterns with five circles of action were found. However, nineteen functions do not appear in the story because the absence of the functions proposed by Propp is contextual and not universal

Abstract

This research examines the flouting of Grice's cooperative principle in the Indonesian drama series Kartu Keluarga. As the foundation of social interaction, effective communication requires an understanding of pragmatics, particularly how violations of the maxims of quantity, quality, relevance, and manner generate implicatures or implied meanings. The series' central conflict, which narrates the story of a single mother's fictitious marriage, triggers numerous deviant utterances that can potentially lead to misunderstandings. This study aims to identify the forms of maxim violations and analyze the reasons behind them. Using a qualitative narrative approach, dialogue data from the first episode were collected using the non-participatory observation method (SBLC) and transcribed. Data analysis was conducted using referential identity and distributional methods to decipher the implied meanings. The findings are presented descriptively to explain the phenomenon of maxim violation in the context of verbal interaction in electronic media.
