Abstract

Breast engorgement occurs due to obstruction of venous and lymphatic flow, leading to impaired milk drainage and increased pressure in the milk ducts and alveoli. One alternative to manage breast engorgement is the application of cabbage leaf compresses. This study aims to examine the effect of cabbage leaf compresses (Brassica oleracea) on reducing breast swelling and pain in postpartum mothers with breast engorgement. This research employed a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design (one group pretest-posttest) involving 33 respondents experiencing breast engorgement. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed a reduction in the average swelling score from 4.06 to 2.06 and a decrease in pain score from 3.58 to 2.94 after the intervention (p-value = 0.000). Cabbage leaf compresses were effective in reducing breast swelling and pain in postpartum mothers with breast engorgement. This method can be recommended as a non-pharmacological alternative in midwifery care.

Abstract

Typhoid fever is a systemic infectious disease caused by Salmonella enterica subspecies enterica serovar Typhi (S. Typhi). Transmission commonly occurs through food or drinks contaminated with the feces or urine of infected individuals. Travelers to endemic areas, particularly tropical regions, are at high risk of infection. Symptoms include high fever, nausea, and abdominal pain. Improvements in sanitation and hygiene have contributed to a decline in typhoid incidence; however, the effectiveness of antibiotic treatment is decreasing due to rising resistance. Vaccination has become a highly recommended preventive measure for both local populations and travelers. This study is a literature review of English-language articles published between 2014 and 2024, sourced from PubMed (106 articles), Google Scholar (915), and ProQuest (14), using the keywords “typhoid fever” and “vaccine.” A total of 49 relevant articles were analyzed. The results show that the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends typhoid vaccination in endemic areas. In conclusion, vaccination is effective in reducing morbidity and mortality rates and in preventing antibiotic resistance. Well-planned preventive strategies are essential for protecting public health.

Abstract

The production of breast milk in mothers who undergo Caesarean section is influenced by several factors, including psychological ones such as anxiety. In Indonesia, the rate of exclusive breastfeeding for infants aged 0–6 months is 72.07%, and the tendency to give colostrum is 85.4%. One of the factors affecting colostrum secretion is the use of medication during Caesarean procedures. This study aimed to examine the relationship between anxiety levels and colostrum secretion in post-Caesarean section mothers at Meuraxa Regional Hospital, Banda Aceh. The study used an analytical method with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of all post-Caesarean section mothers treated in the maternity ward. A total of 36 respondents were selected using accidental sampling. The results showed that 75% of mothers who experienced anxiety had inhibited colostrum secretion, while 16.7% of those who were not anxious experienced smooth colostrum flow. Statistical analysis showed a significant relationship (p-value = 0.000). In conclusion, there is a significant association between anxiety and colostrum secretion in post-Caesarean mothers. These findings can help improve the quality of maternal care and guide midwives in managing postpartum care for mothers after Caesarean delivery.

Abstract

The implementation of sex education for children refers to the provision of information and guidance received by children aged 7–14 years related to sexual education, including understanding and maintaining reproductive hygiene, recognizing forms of sexual harassment, and being able to protect themselves from sexual abuse. This study aims to analyze the implementation of sex education for children in the 16 Ilir sub-district of Palembang. The population in this study includes all children aged 7–13 years residing in the 16 Ilir sub-district of Palembang. A total of 96 respondents were selected as the sample using the total sampling technique. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods with the chi-square test at an alpha level of 0.05. The results of the chi-square test indicate that there is a relationship between the implementation of sex education in children and the roles of parents, peers, and social media. Based on the findings, it is recommended that parents, in particular, take an active role in providing early sex education to their children using age-appropriate language.

Abstract

Low back pain (LBP) due to spondylolisthesis causes pain, muscle spasms, and limited mobility, thereby requiring appropriate physiotherapy management. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of physiotherapy interventions using Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS), Microwave Diathermy (MWD), and William Flexion Exercises in patients with LBP due to spondylolisthesis receiving treatment at Anwar Medika General Hospital, Krian. This study used a case study design with six physiotherapy sessions involving TENS, MWD, and William Flexion Exercises. Parameters assessed included VAS, MMT, ROM, and ODI. The results showed that pain decreased from VAS 6 to 2; MMT scores improved; ROM increased up to 30°; and ODI scores improved from 40% to 16%. The combination therapy was effective and is recommended as a non-pharmacological management option for low back pain caused by spondylolisthesis.

Abstract

Immunization against Tetanus Toxoid (TT) is a preventive measure to increase immunity against tetanus infections, specifically to prevent neonatal tetanus and reduce maternal and infant mortality. However, pregnant women often underutilize available healthcare services, one of which is the low coverage of TT immunization. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors influencing the completeness of TT immunization in pregnant women. This analytical research used a cross-sectional study approach and accidental sampling technique. The study population included all pregnant women who visited healthcare facilities for check-ups, with 48 respondents as the sample. The results showed that a significant number of respondents did not receive complete TT immunization. Most of the respondents had low education levels (29 respondents, 60.4%) and were at high-risk ages (30 respondents, 62.5%). The Chi-square statistical test revealed that the independent variables, education (p = 0.041) and age (p = 0.016), significantly affected TT immunization completeness (p-value < α = 0.05). Efforts to increase TT immunization coverage should focus on mothers with low education and those in high-risk age groups. It is recommended that pregnant women receive complete TT immunization to prevent neonatal tetanus and maternal tetanus infections.

Abstract

Plants are the main source of secondary metabolites that have important biological potential. This study aims to screen the phytochemicals of green tea leaves and black pepper to identify the classes of active compounds contained within them. Extraction was performed using the maceration method with 96% ethanol over three days, followed by qualitative phytochemical testing (alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, triterpenoids, steroids, polyphenols, and anthraquinones). Green tea leaves contain alkaloids, triterpenoids, flavonoids, polyphenols, and anthraquinones. Black pepper contains alkaloids, saponins, triterpenoids, steroids, and flavonoids, but does not contain polyphenols, tannins, or anthraquinones. The differences in the composition of active compounds indicate distinct therapeutic potentials in the two plants and support their use as natural medicinal ingredients.

Abstract

Anemia among adolescent girls (Rematri) in Indonesia remains a significant health issue, with a prevalence of 48.9% according to Riskesdas 2018. This issue is particularly prominent in the age groups of 15-24 years and 25-34 years. Anemia can be managed through the consumption of iron supplementation tablets (TTD) or Fe tablets, but the coverage of Fe tablet distribution in Central Java remains low at 29.3%, much lower than in Bali, which reaches 95.1%. Knowledge about Fe tablets is crucial for adolescents to understand their role in preventing anemia and improving hemoglobin levels. This study aims to determine the relationship between information sources and the knowledge of adolescent girls about Fe tablets in Sewan Village, Kedungampel, Klaten. The research method used is quantitative with a cross-sectional design, involving 49 adolescent girls aged 13-19 years who have reached menarche. A questionnaire was used as the instrument, and data were analyzed using the Chi-square test. The results showed an Asymp. Sig value of 0.025, indicating no significant relationship between information sources and knowledge about Fe tablets among adolescent girls in Sewan Village, Klaten.

Abstract

Body image is commonly experienced by teenagers, with a prevalence reaching 71%. In Ireland, 26% of teenagers report feeling dissatisfied or very dissatisfied with their bodies, or having a negative body image. This issue is more prevalent among female adolescents compared to males. This study aims to examine the effect of nutritional health education using animated videos on the body image perception of female adolescents in Class 2 at SMP Negeri 3 Bireuen District. The research design used is a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The study population consists of all female adolescents in Class 2 at SMP Negeri 3 Bireuen, with the sampling technique employing the total population, totaling 34 respondents. The Wilcoxon test results show that 91.2% of respondents had good knowledge (α = 0.05), with a p-value (0.000) < α (0.05), meaning that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. The study concludes that there is a significant effect of nutritional health education using animated videos on the body image perception of female adolescents. This research is expected to encourage respondents to actively participate in improving positive body image perception among female adolescents.
