Abstract

The postpartum period is often accompanied by anxiety that can develop into postpartum depression if left untreated. A spice bath is a non-pharmacological method believed to provide relaxation. This study aimed to determine the effect of a spice bath on postpartum maternal anxiety levels at PMB Wulan Mardikaningtyas Kartasura. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach on 30 postpartum mothers. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon test. The average anxiety score decreased from 27.77 to 17.90 after the spice bath (p-value = 0.000), indicating a significant difference between anxiety levels before and after the intervention. In conclusion, a spice bath is effective in reducing postpartum maternal anxiety levels and can be used as a complementary therapy during the postpartum period.

Abstract

The high maternal mortality rate in Indonesia remains a serious concern, partly due to pregnant women’s lack of knowledge about danger signs during pregnancy. This study aims to examine the effect of online education using the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Book on pregnant women's knowledge of danger signs at Payung Sekaki Health Center in Pekanbaru City. A pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test was applied. The sample consisted of 44 pregnant women selected by total sampling. Education was conducted online via WhatsApp, using material from the MCH Book. The Wilcoxon test showed a significant increase in knowledge after the intervention (p < 0.05). These findings indicate that online education based on the MCH Book is effective in increasing pregnant women's understanding of pregnancy danger signs. This method can be considered an alternative approach for maternal health education to prevent pregnancy complications.

Abstract

Improper storage and disposal of medications at home can reduce drug quality, pose risks of poisoning, and contribute to environmental pollution. However, public knowledge remains low, as only 16.1% of respondents demonstrated good understanding of proper storage, and 52.6% lacked awareness of safe disposal methods. Education is considered a key factor in improving health literacy related to medication management. This study aimed to examine the relationship between educational level and knowledge of medication storage and disposal among outpatients at RSI Sunan Kudus. The research employed a descriptive quantitative approach, involving 392 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis and Spearman Rank correlation. The majority of respondents were female (71.4%), aged 26–45 years (47.2%), had a senior high school/vocational education (53.8%), and were employed in the private sector (56.9%). Most respondents had moderate knowledge regarding storage (55.4%) and disposal (44.6%) of medications. A significant relationship was found between education level and knowledge of both storage (r = 0.532; p < 0.001) and disposal (r = 0.610; p < 0.001). More intensive education by pharmaceutical staff is recommended.

Abstract

Nutritional status describes the body's condition resulting from food intake and nutrient use, which is vital for energy, growth, tissue repair, and physiological function. A preliminary study at Ponkesdes Mlajah Bangkalan found that among 10 mothers with toddlers suffering from poor nutrition, 80% of the children did not actively attend the posyandu, while 20% did. This study aimed to examine the effect of participation in basic health services (posyandu) on toddlers’ nutritional status. Using an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach, 143 respondents (from 227) were selected through Stratified Simple Random Sampling. The independent variable was posyandu participation status; the dependent variable was toddler nutritional status. Data were collected using Islamic boarding school cohort records and Z-score applications, and analyzed using the Spearman Rank test (Ethics No: 1586/KEPK/STIKES-NHM/EC/II/2024). Findings showed 62.2% of respondents were inactive in posyandu, while 66.4% of toddlers had normal nutritional status. With a p-value of 0.094 (ρ > α = 0.05), the result indicated no significant influence. Recommendation: Parents should be encouraged to attend posyandu regularly, aided by cadres through reminders and nutrition education efforts.

Abstract

Back pain in pregnant women can be managed pharmacologically using analgesic drugs and non-pharmacologically through methods such as birth ball exercises, prenatal yoga, endorphin massage, warm compresses, deep breathing relaxation, and acupressure. This study aimed to determine the effect of acupressure on back pain in pregnant women at Klinik Utama Bunda Ria, Banda Aceh, in 2024. The research design was a quasi-experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest method. The population consisted of 960 pregnant women, with a sample of 15 participants. The study was conducted from July 22 to July 29, 2025. Data were analyzed using Chi-square and paired t-tests through SPSS. The results showed that before acupressure, most respondents (80%) experienced moderate pain. After acupressure, there was a significant reduction in pain levels (ρ = 0.000). In conclusion, acupressure had a significant effect in reducing back pain in pregnant women. It is recommended that healthcare workers improve services, provide information, and conduct health education for third-trimester pregnant women regarding the prevention and management of back pain.

Abstract

Background: Asphyxia is one of the causes of neonatal death. The causes of neonatal asphyxia consist of: maternal factors, placental factors, fetal factors and delivery factors. Research Objectives: To determine the determinants of neonatal asphyxia at the Aceh government Mother and Child Hospital (RSIA). Research Methods: This research design uses a case control study with a retrospective approach. The population in this study were all newborns registered in the NICU room register at the Aceh Government Mother and Child Hospital (RSIA) for 2019-2022. The case sample in the case sampling technique was total sampling with a total of 186 newborns who experienced asphyxia. Results: The results of statistical tests showed that maternal age, amniotic fluid mixed with meconium, prolonged labour, and type of delivery with a p value <0.05, which means that there is a relationship with the incidence of asphyxia in newborns. The results of statistical tests on breech position and placenta previa showed a p value > 0.05, which means that there was no association with the incidence of asphyxia in newborns. The most influential factor with the incidence of asphyxia was amniotic fluid mixed with meconium with an OR value of 3.798. Conclusion: There is a need to increase the ability of midwives to provide delivery services and assistance, especially in cases of amniotic fluid mixed with meconium through education and training both internally and externally through seminars or special training.

Abstract

Stunting is a health issue that remains a serious concern in Indonesia. The prevalence of stunting continues to increase, particularly in the working area of Kapota Health Center. Based on initial observations, there are three aspects suspected to influence the incidence of stunting in children, namely personal hygiene, availability of clean water, and exclusive breastfeeding. The aim of this study is to determine the influence of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) on the incidence of stunting in children aged 2-5 years in the working area of Kapota Health Center, Wangi-Wangi Selatan District, Wakatobi Regency in 2025. This research is quantitative with a case-control study design using age matching, and the sampling technique is purposive sampling, with a sample size of 15 case groups and 15 control groups. Analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate analysis. The results indicate that the variable of personal hygiene has an odds ratio (OR) of 5.500 and a confidence interval (C) of 0.556, the availability of clean water has an OR of 1.429 and a C of 0.378, while exclusive breastfeeding has an OR of 0.400 and a C of 0.514. The conclusion of this study is that the variables of personal hygiene and the availability of clean water are aspects that influence the incidence of stunting. Furthermore, exclusive breastfeeding is a protective variable, meaning that exclusive breastfeeding does not have an influence on the incidence of stunting in children in the working area of Kapota Health Center.
