Abstract

This study investigates the utilization of Instagram as a tool for enhancing English language learning among higher education students. Amidst the growing influence of social media on student lifestyles, the research aimed to harness Instagram's potential for educational purposes, particularly in language acquisition. Employing a Design and Development (D&D) approach with the four-dimensional (4D) model - Define, Design, Development, and Dissemination - the study focused on creating and implementing English learning materials tailored for the Instagram platform. The research methodology included the use of a questionnaire to assess the effectiveness of the instructional materials. These materials were validated by a panel consisting of two media experts, two language experts, and two material experts, ensuring content validity. The study involved a purposively selected sample of 30 students, emphasizing first-semester English majors who were active Instagram users. This approach facilitated an evaluation of the reliability and validity of the instructional materials and the research instrument. Key findings indicated that Instagram as a learning platform significantly boosted student engagement and interaction in English language learning. The study revealed the importance of social media, particularly Instagram, in fostering a more interactive and engaging learning environment. However, the research faced limitations due to its reliance on self-reported data and its focus on a specific student demographic. The study recommends future research to expand beyond first-semester English majors and explore various social media content types for effective educational outcomes. Longitudinal studies and qualitative research methods are suggested to gain deeper insights into student interactions with social media in educational contexts. This research underscores the potential of integrating social media platforms like Instagram into educational curricula, tailored to the digital habits and preferences of contemporary students.

Abstract

Resilience is important for students to rise from stressful events such as cognitive rumination. Cognitive rumination makes students trapped in contemplation about their problems, resulting in students becoming unproductive. Therefore, this study aims to see the effect of resilience on cognitive rumination of Faculty of Education and Psychology Universitas Negeri Semarang and Faculty of Teaching and Education Universitas Bengkulu students. Quantitative methods were used in this study with an ex-post facto design. The population in this study is FEP UNNES and FETT UNIB students. A total of 320 FEP UNNES students and 292 FETT UNIB students were used as samples with purposive random sampling techniques. The data collection technique used a psychological scale of resilience (24 items) and a psychological scale of cognitive rumination (27 items). Hypotheses are tested and analyzed using simple regression analysis techniques. The results of this study showed that resilience had a significant negative effect on students' cognitive rumination (R=.890, R2=.793, β=-.890, t=112.605, and p<0.001). These results mean that resilience contributes 79,3% to cognitive rumination, so students who have high resilience are not easy to get caught up in negative rumination and remain productive in carrying out their academic activities. Further implications of this research for the field of guidance and counseling studies in higher education are to provide an initial foundation for digging deeper into aspects that can increase resilience in college students through experimental research. Researchers recommend looking at other perspectives of the subjects studied. For example, by adding a gender moderator variable to see differences in levels of resilience between male and female. In addition, expanding the range of research subjects to a wider range will further increase the generalizability of research with different sampling techniques.

Abstract

The study aims to understand the correlation between self-regulated learning and academic procrastination. By examining responses from 104 students through comprehensive questionnaires, it provides insights into how students manage their learning and delay tasks. The use of simple regression analysis underscores the statistical significance of the findings, highlighting that improving self-regulated learning skills can directly reduce academic procrastination. This research not only contributes to the academic understanding of these concepts but also offers practical guidance for educators and policymakers. By focusing on enhancing self-regulated learning abilities, educational strategies can be developed to address and mitigate procrastination, ultimately improving the overall quality of student learning experiences.

Abstract

This research provides a bibliometric analysis of anxiety disorder studies in 2023, employing a qualitative approach to examine trends and developments in this field. The study analyzes 988 documents, utilizing OpenRefine, Vosviewer, and Rstudio for in-depth data analysis. The primary objective is to understand the current landscape of anxiety disorder research and identify key themes and contributors. The findings reveal that anxiety disorder remains a significant and topical subject in contemporary research, with a notable concentration of studies originating from the United States. This geographic focus underscores the country's leading role in advancing research in this area. A key figure in this field is identified as Wang Y., who has made substantial contributions through frequent publications. The study also highlights emerging areas of interest within anxiety disorder research. These include specific focus on teenagers and women, indicating a growing awareness of demographic-specific anxiety issues. Additionally, the research points to an increasing interest in exploring the nuances of gender in relation to anxiety disorders. Another critical aspect underlined by the study is the broader theme of mental stress, which remains a pertinent issue in understanding and addressing anxiety disorders. Overall, this research not only maps the current state of anxiety disorder studies but also indicates key directions for future research, emphasizing the importance of demographic-specific and thematic explorations in this field. The insights gained from this study are valuable for researchers, clinicians, and policymakers, providing a foundational understanding of the evolving landscape of anxiety disorder research in 2023.

Abstract

The primary goal of the study is to investigate the effect of dialectical behavior therapy in the treatment of perfectionism in high school students. Method research using single-case experimental research with an A-B-A design Participants consisted of three students (N = 3) who indicated non-perfectionism, maladaptive perfectionism, and mixed maladaptive perfectionism. The intervention of dialectical behavior therapy in the treatment of perfectionism was carried out in eight sessions. Treatment focused on developing mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonaleffectiveness, and self-regulation. Participants completed the Frost MultidimensionalPerfectionism Scale. Data were collected before, during, and after the DBT intervention. The results showed that dialectical behavior therapy was effective for dealing with maladaptive perfectionism during and after the intervention. This preliminary evidence suggests the potential feasibility of using DBT in school settings.

Abstract

This study investigates career planning strategies for Generation Z in the post-COVID-19 pandemic era, emphasizing career theories and cultural and religious values. Through content analysis, the research reviews 8 articles on career planning grounded in cultural and religious values, alongside 10 articles on career theories and work values. The findings indicate that the career planning process encompasses self-understanding, understanding of career opportunities, planning, and career decision-making, which should integrate values such as faith, hard work, honesty, cooperation, and resilience. These values are represented in cultural heritage, including proverbs, poems, games, models, songs, rhymes, and advice. These insights significantly contribute to the study and practice of career planning in both formal and non-formal education settings.

Abstract

This study aims to obtain an overview of the paradigm tendencies owned and practiced by school counselors in Indonesia. The study involved 233 school counselors in Indonesia on Sumatra, Java, and Bali islands. The research instrument reveals the counseling model that respondents use in providing counseling services (individual/group) and the reasons for its use. Statistics such as frequencies and percentages are used for quantitative data analysis. Qualitative data for reasons for specific counseling models were analyzed using Miles and Huberman data analysis. The results of this study show that school counselors most widely use behavior counseling models because they are effective in overcoming student behavior problems. This approach suits general needs and concerns and is easily understood with its techniques. The rational-emotive behavior therapy counseling model was chosen because it helps change mindsets to be more realistic and mature. This technique follows the needs and problems that arise and the development of adolescents who often act without consideration. Referring to Cotton's opinion, both models are counseling models that fall into the psychological paradigm. The tendency of school counselors to use psychological paradigms may be due to the psychology-focused counselor education curriculum, lack of resources or knowledge of other paradigms, and limitations of the school environment that encourage the use of traditional psychological approaches. School counselors must work with other school staff to integrate counseling approaches into the school program, which is essential. Professional organizations are expected to encourage training in behavioral counseling and REBT, supporting students' holistic education that includes academic, social, and emotional aspects.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to ascertain how group counseling based on traditional Macapat Sinom wisdom affects students. This study used a case study research design in conjunction with a qualitative methodology. To gather data, in-depth interviews were conducted. This study focuses on students, class teachers, and guidance and counseling professionals. 1) Data collection, 2) Data reduction, 3) Data presentation, and 4) Conclusion are all included in data analysis. Triangulation of sources was used to determine the data's validity. According to this study, students learn about the moral lesson found in macapat sinom. Student comprehend the significance of classic literature. The values of the local culture and how they can influence an individual's identity are better understood by the students. The impact of group counseling based on traditional Macapat Sinom wisdom is increasing students' cultural pride, according to the conclusion.

Abstract

This study examines the significance of the paths: (1) from social support to career adaptability, (2) from work value to career adaptability, (3) from self-esteem to career adaptability, (4) from social support to career adaptability via self-esteem, and (5) from work value to career adaptability via self-esteem. A total of 265 students from the Faculty of Education Universitas Negeri Malang who participated in the Asistensi Mengajar (AM) Program were selected using a simple random sampling technique. Four instruments were used to collect data: the Career Adapt-Abilities Scale (CAAS), the Work Value Inventory (WVI), the Self-Esteem Scale, and the Social Support Scale. The data were analysed using path analysis. The findings revealed that all paths have significance values below 0.05, indicating that all proposed paths are acceptable.  The analysis also shows that work value has a direct effect on self-esteem, with a coefficient of 0.160, while social support exhibits a more substantial direct effect on self-esteem, with a coefficient of 0.412. Self-esteem directly influences career adaptability with a coefficient of 0.435. Indirectly, work value impacts career adaptability via self-esteem with a coefficient of 0.070, and social support influences career adaptability via self-esteem with a coefficient of 0.179. The total effects of work value and social support on career adaptability via self-esteem were calculated to be 0.230 and 0.591, respectively. These results suggest that social support has a more pronounced total effect on career adaptability compared to work value, primarily due to its stronger direct effect on self-esteem. The study underscores the critical role of self-esteem as a mediator in enhancing career adaptability through social support and work values.

Abstract

This brief investigation checks into how depression levels and ways of dealing with problems are related among teenage drug users who are getting help at Rumah Orbit Surabaya, a drug rehab centre in Indonesia. The study used a correlational analytic approach and looked at 32 teenage drug users: 10 were admitted for inpatient care and 22 were getting therapy outside of school. The requirements for inclusion are that the teens must be involved in rehabilitation and have good social skills. Teenagers who are already drug-free are not eligible. The Beck Depression Inventory questionnaire and the Ways of Coping Checklist were used to gather data. The results show a clear connection between the subjects' coping strategies and how depressed they were. Findings show that teens who use drugs are more likely to use unhealthy ways to deal with their problems when they are depressed. In particular, most of them showed signs of borderline sadness, and a big chunk of them used unhealthy ways to deal with their problems. On the other hand, people with moderate depression were more likely to use adaptive coping techniques. This study adds to our knowledge of how sadness affects how teenage drug users deal with stress in a rehabilitation setting. Recommendations include interventions that are targeted to the severity of sadness to help people in this vulnerable group get better at therapy and coping. In the future, researchers could look into longitudinal effects and intervention methods that are better suited to people with different levels of depression in similar situations.
