Abstract

This study investigates the role of productive zakat in improving the performance of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) assisted by zakat institutions in West Java. Productive zakat, as a form of Islamic social finance, aims to empower mustahik (zakat recipients) by providing business capital, training, and guidance to foster economic independence and sustainability. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 100 MSME zakat recipients through structured questionnaires based on a five-point Likert scale. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS version 25, including validity, reliability, classical assumption, and multiple regression tests. The results reveal that productive zakat utilization, entrepreneurial capacity, and institutional support each have a positive and significant effect on MSME performance. The coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0.673 indicates that 67.3% of MSME performance variation is explained by these three variables. The findings underscore the crucial role of effective zakat management and capacity-building initiatives in achieving sustainable empowerment. This study contributes to the understanding of how Islamic social finance instruments, particularly productive zakat, can serve as a catalyst for inclusive economic development and poverty reduction in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study examines the feasibility and method of developing Muslim-friendly tourism in West Java, Indonesia, a culturally rich region with natural landscapes and a majority Muslim population. A qualitative research method was employed whereby data were collected from government officials, tourism operators, and representatives of local communities using semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. The findings of the research show that West Java's natural beauty, Islamic heritage sites, and halal food culture are firm foundations of Muslim-friendly tourism development. However, the research also reveals some primary challenges like fragmented application of policy, uneven levels of infrastructure quality, poor stakeholder coordination, and varying levels of awareness among small and medium enterprises regarding halal certification processes. The analysis further highlights the vital significance of socio-cultural harmonious matching and peoples' involvement, whereby local communities, particularly pesantren-based networks, are directly involved in promoting ethical and value-based tourism culture. To fill in the gaps identified, the study recommends five strategic directions: (1) improving branding and marketing communication to market West Java as a Muslim-friendly inclusive destination, (2) increasing capacity-building programs for tourism stakeholders, (3) improving infrastructure and preparedness of services, (4) building multi-stakeholder partnerships, and (5) establishing a provincial halal tourism task force to enable coordinated implementation. The study determines that comprehensive and inclusive Muslim-friendly tourism development in West Java requires a strategy that reconciles regional religious values with global tourism norms. Through doing this, the province will be able to enhance its competitiveness in the global halal tourism market while nurturing social harmony, cultural authenticity, and economic empowerment.

Abstract

This research investigates the impact of blockchain technology on the transparency of Zakat management in Indonesia through a quantitative analysis. The study encompasses a diverse sample of 350 participants from various Zakat institutions, analyzing demographic and organizational characteristics. Findings reveal a positive trend in blockchain adoption, with larger organizations and those in urban areas more likely to integrate the technology. Participants generally perceive Zakat management processes as clear and accountable, although improvements in accessibility are identified. Regression analysis demonstrates a statistically significant positive relationship between blockchain adoption and transparency. Challenges include technical barriers and high implementation costs, while opportunities include increased donor trust and operational efficiency gains. Policy implications suggest regulatory frameworks to support institutions, and organizational strategies recommend phased implementation and capacity-building initiatives. The study contributes insights for policymakers, Zakat institutions, and researchers navigating the intersection of traditional charitable practices and innovative technologies.

Abstract

This research aims to look at offers in inter-religious dialogue in Indonesia regarding the polemic of religious fanaticism. This research explains the Islamic thought approach of Nurcholis Madjid and Amin Abdullah using analytical descriptive methods which include qualitative research with data in the form of literature and journals that are still related to the theme. The data collection technique is a literature study that relies on the books Islam, Modernity and Indonesianness from Nurcholis Madjid and Religious Studies: Normativity or Historicity from Amin Abdullah and related journals. The findings achieved from this research are in the form of an understanding of the ideas of historicity, normativity and religious inclusivism which explains that all three have the same approach in creating peace in Indonesia. historicity with historical, anthropological and sociological approaches, both of which must be united to be able to see the diversity of Indonesian society. Nurcholis Madjid with the idea of inclusivism, he criticizes religious traditions which tend to be formalistic textualists, thus changing them with a normative-historical approach and a classical-modern approach to be contextualized in the diversity of Indonesia's pluralistic society. It can be seen that these two Islamic thinkers have contributed ideas that can be actualized for the continuation of peace between religious communities in Indonesia. Therefore, both of them have approaches that can be used in dialogue between religious communities as an offer to polemics about religious fanaticism in Indonesia.

Abstract

This research explores the Analysis of the Effectiveness and Challenges of Digital Zakat Management, focusing on the case study of Shopee and Tokopedia platforms through a quantitative approach. A diverse sample of 250 participants engaged in Zakat transactions provided insights into demographic profiles, usage patterns, and perceptions of digital Zakat features. Results indicate a broad appeal, with users spanning various age groups, professions, and geographic locations. Usage patterns varied, emphasizing the platforms' adaptability to users with different engagement frequencies. While users expressed high satisfaction (Mean Score: 4.1) and perceived efficiency in transaction speed (Mean Score: 4.2), challenges such as transparency concerns (Mean Score: 3.8) and technological barriers (30%) were identified. The study offers implications for platform optimization, emphasizing the importance of addressing challenges to enhance digital Zakat experiences.

Abstract

This research explores the effectiveness of Zakat collection, management, and distribution in improving social welfare in Indonesia, employing a sample of 250 participants and utilizing Structural Equation Modeling with Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The measurement model analysis demonstrates robust loading factors, reliability, and convergent validity, while the discriminant validity analysis confirms the distinctiveness of the latent constructs. In the structural model, positive and statistically significant relationships are found between the effectiveness of Zakat distribution, collection, management, and the improvement of social welfare. The R-square and adjusted R-square values of 0.602 and 0.592, respectively, indicate a strong explanatory power of the model. These findings underscore the transformative potential of Zakat in addressing socio-economic disparities and contribute valuable insights for policymakers and practitioners in the field of social development.

Abstract

Israel's attack on the Gaza area has become a major human rights issue that has attracted public attention. The genocide, which began on October 7, 2023, has claimed thousands of innocent lives. All Muslims in the world sympathize with the disaster that occurred in Palestine. However, this sympathy is vulnerable to being infiltrated by religious radicalism movements, especially those related to opinions spread on social media. Therefore, this research focuses on looking at these potentials. This research is empirical research using netnographic data collection by the hashtag #khilafah on Instagram. Based on this search, an account was found with the name @bultendakwahkaffah, which is an Instagram account for online bulletins spreading propaganda for the Khilafah Islamiyah movement. The propaganda spread by this account revolves around the implementation of an Islamic caliphate, which can guarantee the implementation of Palestinian independence. The form of Khilafah Islamyah as a representation of the unity of the Muslim ummah will liberate Palestine from Israeli colonialism, relying on the unity of all Muslims in the world and the implementation of Islamic law. The author also found that the account in question was affiliated with the ideologies of the Hizbut Tahrir organization, which was disbanded by the government in 2017. The Palestinian issue, which is full of humanity, really attracts the sympathy of the wider community. By hiding behind humanitarian issues, it is feared that the Islamic caliphate movement, which has long been a problem, will attract sympathy from many people on social media.
