Abstract

The foundation was an important part of the structure. In foundation design, it was necessary to considered the foundation condition to be built must be able to support the load up to the allowable capacity. To determine a safe foundation requires analysis using several of static methods. This research was conducted to obtain a critical bearing capacity so that it can be used to determine a very safe foundation. In this study, analysis of the bearing capacity of pile foundations was calculate using the method of Briaud et al. (1985), Meyerhof (1956), Decourt (1982), Shioi & Fukui (1982) based on SPT N-value obtained from the field at borehole 1 (BH-01) and borehole 2 (BH-02). Based on the analytical result of the bearing capacity calculation of a pile foundation with a diameter of 0.35m on depth of 24m, The lowest of bearing capacity (critical value) used to determine the number of piles is the method of Briaud et al. (1985) was 90.55 tons at borehole 1 and 87.06 tons at borehole 2. This value was use as a guideline for determining the number of pile foundations used in reservoir construction design.

Abstract

Roads are transportation infrastructure whose needs in Indonesia continue to increase, along with the increasing number of vehicles. Road construction is a construction that receives traffic loads, therefore it is expected that a road pavement layer must have a strong pavement construction and be able to receive loads from traffic users. AC-WC (Black-top Concrete - Wearing Course) asphalt layer is a road pavement construction consisting of asphalt composition, coarse aggregate, fine aggregate and filler. Fillers in asphalt mixtures function to increase the binding power of AC-WC asphalt, so as to improve mixture stability and fillers can fill the voids between aggregate particles, filler commonly used is stone ash. This research will be conducted with the addition of broiler eggshell filler and porland cement in the Asphalt Concrete wearing Course (AC-WC) mixture. The research was conducted with an experimental method conducted in the Civil Engineering laboratory of Abdurrab University. The specification used in this study is Public Road Revision 2 Year 2018, The optimum asphalt content (KAO) used was 6.5%. Based on the results of the study, the largest marshall stability and melting value is found in the 100% cement filler variation, which is 1772.7 Kg and the value of flow value (melting) 3.77 mm while the largest marshall quotient (MQ) value is found in the 25% eggshell filler variation, 75% cement, which is 529.2 Kg/mm.

Abstract

Schizophrenia is a neurological disorder and a serious type of mental illness that affects the patient's perception, thinking, language, emotions, and social behavior. Communicating with individuals suffering from schizophrenia requires special techniques because they tend to experience self-concept issues, immerse themselves in their own world, and exhibit physical well-being but mental unhealthiness. Effective communication with schizophrenia patients necessitates skilled nursing techniques and the ability to communicate effectively. From the perspective of communication science, the relationship between the nurse and the patient falls under interpersonal communication, or from the standpoint of health communication, it is therapeutic communication. The communication between the nurse and the patient creates interpersonal interaction using linguistic symbol systems, such as verbal and nonverbal systems. This study aims to describe and analyze interpersonal communication between nurses and Schizophrenia patients at Rumah Sakit Jiwa in the Riau Province. The research utilizes a case study method. The results show that the interpersonal communication used by nurses with schizophrenia patients at Tampan Mental Hospital in the Riau Province involves empathy, positive attention, and sincere acceptance demonstrated through both verbal and nonverbal forms. This fosters trust and openness in patients towards nurses, ultimately contributing to the improvement of schizophrenia patients' healing process.

Abstract

Atherosclerosis is an arterial disease often associated with lipids and other metabolic alterations. Various factors are involved in developing atherosclerosis, including Galectin-3 (Gal-3). Pre-clinical studies have shown that Modified Citrus Pectin (MCP), a modified polysaccharide from citrus peels, has the potential of inhibiting Gal-3 and countering the development of atherosclerosis. Thus, this review aims to analyze the role of MCP on inhibiting and regulating Galectin-3 (Gal-3) as an alternative therapeutic target. We examined valid pre-clinical experimental study designs taken from the databases Science Direct, Taylor & Francis, PubMed, and Google Scholar, with publication dates ranging from 2014 to 2024. 15 research articles meet the established inclusion criteria. Our review found that Gal-3 levels rose during atherosclerosis development, triggering proteins that disturbs cardiovascular physiology. Additionally, Gal-3 targeted inhibition using MCP has shown to have therapeutic effects that alleviates hypertrophy and plaque’s size. In essence, MCP emerges as a promising alternative therapy targeting Gal-3 in atherosclerosis progression.

Abstract

Riau Province is one of the regions in Indonesia that frequently experiences forest and land fires, which cause economic losses, environmental damage and threats to public health. This research aims to build a model for preventing forest and land fire disasters through an ecotourism approach, with a focus on integrating conservation efforts and empowering local communities. The research method used is a qualitative approach with case studies in several ecotourism areas in Riau. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with stakeholders, field observations, and analysis of related documents. The research results show that ecotourism has significant potential in preventing forest and land fires, especially through increasing environmental awareness among local communities and visitors, as well as developing environmentally friendly land management practices. The proposed prevention model includes several key elements: (1) active community participation in managing ecotourism areas; (2) sustainable environmental training and education; (3) collaboration between government, private sector and society in monitoring and enforcing the law; and (4) development of ecotourism infrastructure that supports nature conservation. Implementation of this model is expected to significantly reduce the risk of forest and land fires in Riau, while encouraging economic growth through sustainable ecotourism.
