Abstract

This study aims to identify the meaning of the conditional mood in the novel Histoire d’un Casse-Noisette by Alexandre Dumas. The main theory used is the theory of meaning of the conditional mood according to Boulares & Frérot (2019) and Michèle Mahéo-Le Coadic (2022). The method utilized in this study is content analysis, with data collection technique in form of documentation were used to collect data consisting words, phrases, and sentences in conditional form. based on the theory proposed by Sugiyono (2013). The data sources consist of a primary source which is novel “Histoire d’un Casse-Noisette” by Alexandre Dumas, and secondary sources including French grammar books, articles, and relevant journals discussing the conditional mood. The collected data were analysed with Miles and Huberman’s content analysis method according to Purrohman (2018) through three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The data analysis shows 30 conditional sentences that can be categorized based on the theory used, which includes 9 sentences about uncertainty, 8 about desire, 5 about current impossibility, 4 about politeness, 1 about imagination, 1 about suggestion, 1 about reprimand, and 1 about past impossibility. From this research, it can be concluded that the conditional mood in the novel Histoire d’un Casse-Noisette by Alexandre Dumas reflects various meanings within the narrative and interactions among characters.

Abstract

This article analyzes metaphors within ‘figures of speech’ that discuss the top six leagues in the UEFA rankings in a French football magazine France Football. These articles were chosen because they generated the most news items on the magazine's website and because high ratings of a respective league tended to confirm its quality. It was found that metaphors are mainly refer to 5 elements in football: 1) football players and coaches; 2) football teams; 3) football techniques; 4) football devices; 5) the circumstances that occur in football matches and that they are used to promote a deeper impression to the reader about diverse football elements as the writer highlights an element by making it appear more important than perhaps it is. The use of metaphorical expressions in football terminology becomes one of the factors that make this sport news increasingly popular. These forms of figure of speech are most often found in literary works, but it was also found that these devices are becoming increasingly important in other forms of writing for various purposes.

Abstract

Using the novel Luka di Champs-Élysées by Rosita Sihombing as the corpus, this study aims to identify the local cultural values inspired by Kartini that are represented through the negotiation of global and Indonesian values by the main character, Karima. This research employs a qualitative method with a structural approach as proposed by Robert Stanton (2007) and Burhan Nurgiyantoro (2018), along with transnational feminist theory (Mohanty, Yuval-Davis, and Grewal & Kaplan). These frameworks are connected to Kartini’s values as reflected in her letters (Djojonegoro, 2024) and the field interview findings by the Research Group on Gender, Cultural Identity, and Diaspora, Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Indonesia (2025). The findings reveal that Karima represents Indonesian women in the transnational world who continuously negotiate their identity without being uprooted from their cultural origins. In Karima, Kartini’s values manifest as reflective actions grounded in morality, existential courage, and social responsibility. Karima’s spirituality and religiosity enrich the interpretation of Kartini’s values in the modern context, as her religious experience becomes an integral part of her empowerment and self-recovery process. Therefore, Luka di Champs-Élysées presents a reinterpretation of Kartini’s Indonesian values in the global era—embodying courage, faith, empathy, and social responsibility that remain relevant for contemporary Indonesian women living in transnational spaces.

Abstract

Les films en série peuvent être un moyen de promouvoir un pays grâce à des prises de vue soignées et esthétiques, incitant le public à participer comme s'il était à Paris. La saison 1 d'Emily In Paris présente de bonnes prises de vue et un choix de lieux de tournage qui mettent en valeur la beauté de la France avec des paysages extraordinaires. Cette étude analyse le paysage linguistique de la série Emily in Paris (saison 1) à travers le cadre théorique du paysage linguistique (Landry & Bourhis, 1997 ; Shohamy & Gorter, 2009) et le concept de marchandisation de la langue (Heller, 2010). Cette étude utilise une approche qualitative avec la méthode d'analyse multimodale du discours (Kress & van Leeuwen, 2001). Les données proviennent de captures d'écran de panneaux publics, de transcriptions de dialogues et de mises en scène visuelles de la série. Les résultats montrent que le français est représenté comme un symbole d'authenticité, de prestige et d'identité culturelle. Cette représentation construit un paysage linguistique numérique dans lequel Paris apparaît non seulement comme un espace local, mais aussi comme un produit culturel mondial destiné à une consommation internationale. Cette étude met ainsi en évidence la nécessité d’intégrer la dimension numérique dans l’analyse des paysages linguistiques contemporains. Abstract

In modern society, consumption functions not only to fulfill material needs but also as a means of expression and identity formation, particularly in relation to gender. This study explores how gender identity transformation can occur through symbolic consumption. The film Une nouvelle amie (2014) by François Ozon serves as the corpus and is analyzed qualitatively through the narrative and cinematographic frameworks of Petrie & Boggs (2022) and Gustav Freytag’s Freytag Triangle (1863). Jean Baudrillard’s theory of consumerism (1970) is employed to examine how the consumption of symbolic objects by the protagonist contributes to identity construction. Additionally, Kathryn Woodward’s theory of identity (1997) is used to analyze how identity is formed through representation and social interaction. Findings reveal that symbolic consumption enables the character David to express femininity and construct a non-normative gender identity. Through engagement in inclusive social spaces and the consumption of gendered symbols, David constructs an identity outside traditional gender norms. This study highlights consumption not only as a visual signifier but also as an agentive medium in the construction of identity.

Abstract

L’expression écrite est l’un des aspects essentiels de l’apprentissage du français, mais les supports pédagogiques favorisant le renforcement de cette compétence restent encore très limités. C’est pourquoi, il a été développé un support authentique sous forme de portfolio numérique regroupant les résultats d’examens ainsi que les projets d’écriture des étudiants. La problématique de cette recherche est de savoir comment développer un portfolio numérique et d’analyser la perception des étudiants face à ce support. La méthodologie utilisée est la recherche et développement (R&D) selon le modèle de Borg et Gall, comprenant l’identification du potentiel et des problèmes, la collecte de données initiales, la conception du prototype, la validation du produit, l’expérimentation limitée, ainsi que la révision et la finalisation. Les résultats de l’étude ont permis de concevoir plusieurs séries de portfolios numériques authentiques pour l’enseignement de l’expression écrite en français. Les retours des étudiants se sont révélés très positifs, car ce support facilite la compréhension des phénomènes fréquemment rencontrés dans la pratique de l’écriture en français. Ainsi, le portfolio numérique pour l’expression écrite apporte une contribution concrète à l’innovation pédagogique en français, en particulier dans le domaine de l’écrit, en tant que ressource d’apprentissage authentique et signifiante.

Abstract

Résumé L’une des dimensions fondamentales dans l’apprentissage du français est le développement de la compétence CO-PO, c’est-à-dire la compréhension orale et la production orale. Cette étude a pour objectif de décrire la mise en œuvre de la stratégie contextuelle dans le renforcement des compétences orales des apprenants, d’analyser les résultats de son application en termes d’amélioration des performances orales, et d’examiner les perceptions des élèves après sonintégration dans l’enseignement de la classe XI K au MAN 2 de Palu. La recherche adopte une approche qualitative descriptive, fondée sur l’administration de questionnaires portant sur les aptitudes à l’expression orale ainsi que sur des tests pratiques. La population étudiée est composée de 34 élèves de la classe XI K, sélectionnés de manière intentionnelle. Les instruments de collecte de données incluent des questionnaires et des épreuves de performance orale. Le dispositif méthodologique s’inspire du modèle de recherche-action de Kurt Lewin, comprenant quatre phasesprincipales : (a) la planification, (b) l’action, (c) l’observation et (d) la réflexion. Les résultats mettent en évidence une progression significative, se traduisant par une augmentation de 45 % du taux de réussite par rapport au critère minimal de maîtrise (KKM) pour l’ensemble des compétences orales évaluées.
