Abstract

Abstract

Maternal and neonatal morbidity remains a critical challenge in Indonesia, particularly within the Pasean Community Health Center area in Pamekasan. Key contributing factors include limited community-based education, poor knowledge of nutrition and pregnancy danger signs, and suboptimal health cadre capacity. This community service initiative aims to enhance knowledge, empower cadres through proactive education, and reduce morbidity via early detection. The intervention involves the PELEM MANIS (Proactive Learning and Management for Mom and Kids) booklet. Activities were conducted using a hybrid model (online and face-to-face) encompassing lectures, discussions, and demonstrations. Program effectiveness was evaluated through pre- and post-tests to measure knowledge, while awareness was assessed via K6 maternal coverage. Results demonstrated a significant increase in knowledge and awareness among pregnant women, parents, and health cadres regarding pregnancy, childbirth, and neonatal care. This improvement is evidenced by higher post-test scores. The innovative booklet proved effective and relevant in helping stakeholders identify and manage emergencies throughout the maternal and neonatal periods.

Abstract

Low reproductive health literacy and a high risk of anemia among adolescents demand sustainable educational interventions. The partner (SMA Dr. Soetomo) has implemented regular health checks and anemia screening; however, these activities are time-limited, do not yet allow for independent screening, and lack digital media support for control and monitoring by the school or health workers. The educational application "Fikes-BleSD" was developed as a digital solution to address these limitations. The objective of this community service (PKM) is to evaluate the effectiveness of Fikes-BleSD empowerment in increasing reproductive health knowledge, compliance with Blood-Added Tablet (TTD) consumption, and hemoglobin (Hb) indicators, as well as strengthening school-based monitoring mechanisms. The method used is a participatory approach including multimedia content development, training for teachers and peer educators, the launch of the application featuring reminders and monitoring dashboards, as well as quantitative pre-post evaluations (knowledge questionnaires, TTD compliance) and Hb screening. The results found that >90% of female students downloaded the application; ≥80% activated TTD reminders; knowledge scores increased significantly (≥30%); compliance and dietary patterns improved; and an increase in Hb was observed in the compliant group. Integration into the School Health Unit (UKS) and the formation of a digital team ensure sustainability. The conclusion of this PKM is that Fikes-BleSD effectively overcomes the limitations of periodic control activities by providing a means for independent screening and digital monitoring, making it feasible for replication in other schools.

Abstract

Blood group identification from an early age is an important aspect of health awareness and serves as a personal identity that can support emergency management, such as anemia and blood transfusion needs. This community service activity aimed to improve students’ knowledge and awareness regarding the importance of knowing their blood group through health education and direct examination. The methods included health education on the importance of blood groups and anemia prevention, followed by ABO and Rhesus blood group examination using the agglutination method with Anti-A, Anti-B, Anti-AB, and Anti-D antisera from capillary blood samples. The subjects consisted of elementary and junior high school students, including 60 students from SMP 12 Surakarta, 50 students from SMP 18 Surakarta, and 50 students from MIAI Grobogan. The results showed that most respondents in SMP 12 (70.0%) and SMP 18 (88.0%) were aged 13–15 years, while MIAI Grobogan was dominated by students aged 11–12 years (56.0%). The level of knowledge was still low in SMP 12 (23.3%) and SMP 18 (36.0%), but higher in MIAI Grobogan (64.0%). Most students showed a neutral response toward the examination, although fear was higher in MIAI Grobogan (60.0%). Overall, blood group distribution was dominated by type O (30.6%) and A (27.5%), followed by B (25.6%) and AB (16.3%). In conclusion, this activity was effective in improving students’ knowledge and awareness regarding the importance of blood group identification; however, continuous educational reinforcement is still needed.

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to improve knowledge and awareness among female farmers in Prancak Village, Pasongsongan, Sumenep, regarding knee osteoarthritis (KOA) management through health education and simple stretching exercises. This topic was chosen due to the high incidence of knee pain among farmers performing repetitive and squatting tasks. The activity was conducted in one day with three stages: a pretest using the WOMAC questionnaire, education and stretching exercise practice, and a posttest. Results showed a decrease in WOMAC scores, indicating improvement in pain, stiffness, and knee function; mild category increased from 13% to 40%, while severe category decreased from 33% to 7%. The activity proved effective in reducing knee complaints and enhancing awareness of ergonomic working posture. This short-term program can serve as a sustainable model for community-based osteoarthritis education with support from local health workers and village authorities.

Abstract

Optimizing the nutritional status of pregnant women is a national health priority in order to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates and prevent stunting. The Sungai Tiung area, which is under the jurisdiction of the Cempaka Community Health Center in Banjarbaru City, faces unique challenges during Ramadan, especially since fasting often conflicts with the physiological needs of pregnancy. Based on the situation data, this area has achieved 100% coverage for the first visit (K1), but there has been a decline in coverage for the sixth visit (k1), amounting to 53.9%, indicating a gap in terms of sustainability. The types of interventions carried out involved anthropometric screening to detect Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) through Upper Arm Circumference (UAC) screening, structured education through leaflets, and evaluation through pre-test and post-test instruments. The screening results showed that there was a subpopulation of pregnant women with an ARM circumference of less than 23.5 cm who were more susceptible to complications such as Intrauterine Fetal Demise (IUFD). The evaluation results showed a significant increase in participants' awareness of balanced nutrition, namely 50% carbohydrates, 30% protein, and 10-20% fat, as well as fluid management of at least 2 liters. This educational activity was able to change the perception and behavior of pregnant women in meeting their nutritional needs to prevent CEM and obtain supervision during the fasting month to ensure the safety of the mother and fetus.

Abstract

Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) is an essential aspect of creating a safe, healthy, and productive work environment. Employees who perform work activities in a prolonged sitting position are at risk of developing musculoskeletal disorders due to poor ergonomic posture, particularly in the neck, shoulders, and back regions. This community service program aimed to improve employees’ knowledge of ergonomic working postures and the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders through stretching and strengthening exercises. The activity was conducted at the Berau District Health Office and involved 10 employees. The methods included observation, interviews, completion of the Nordic Body Map (NBM) questionnaire, educational sessions using posters and presentations, and demonstrations of stretching and strengthening exercises. The results showed that the participants consisted of 70% females and 30% males. Most employees worked in non-ergonomic postures, particularly when using laptops with screens positioned too low. Reported complaints included upper back pain in 40% of respondents and lower back pain in 20%, while 40% reported no complaints. Based on the NBM assessment, 70% of respondents were categorized as having mild musculoskeletal complaints, whereas 30% reported no musculoskeletal disorders.

Abstract

Insomnia is one of the most common health problems among older adults and can significantly reduce their quality of life if not properly managed. One non-pharmacological intervention that can be applied is self-acupressure. This community service program aimed to improve older adults’ knowledge and skills in performing self-acupressure and to enhance sleep quality among elderly participants at Posyandu Lansia Sejahtera Abadi IX, Gonilan, Kartasura, Sukoharjo. The program was conducted from March to April 2026 and consisted of health education sessions, self-acupressure training on Shenmen (HT7), Sanyinjiao (SP6), Anmian (EX-HN22), and Yintang (EX-HN3) acupoints, followed by four weeks of guided practice and monitoring. Program evaluation was carried out using pre-test and post-test assessments of participants’ knowledge, an observational checklist for acupressure skills, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) to measure sleep quality. The results demonstrated an increase of more than 20% in participants’ knowledge scores, while over 80% of participants were able to perform self-acupressure correctly and independently. Furthermore, more than 70% of participants showed a reduction in PSQI scores, indicating improved sleep quality. In addition to improving sleep quality, the program enhanced participants’ self-care capacity and strengthened the role of community health volunteers in supporting elderly health promotion. Self-acupressure training proved to be a simple, safe, and feasible intervention with strong potential for integration into routine elderly health service programs to promote healthy aging and improve the quality of life of older adults.
