Abstract

This research aims to explore the application of the Tablighi Jamaah’s da’wah in increasing the spirituality of Muslims in Baja Dolok Village, Sipispis District, Serdang Bedagai Regency. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this research explores in depth social and religious phenomena related to preaching patterns and their influence on people’s spiritual lives. A sociology of religion approach is used to analyze the factors that influence the effectiveness of the Tablighi Jamaah’s da’wah in this region. Research data was collected through observation techniques and in-depth interviews with members of the Tablighi Jamaah, religious leaders and the local community. The research results show that the Tablighi Jamaah applies a unique da’wah approach, namely through the method of home visits (khuruj), religious discussions, and direct interactions in daily life. This approach has succeeded in increasing public awareness of the importance of practicing worship consistently and building a closer relationship with Allah. Apart from that, the Tablighi Jamaah’s preaching emphasizes real examples and the simplicity of living in accordance with Islamic teachings. The positive impact of this method can be seen in significant changes in the mindset and behavior of people who are more religious. However, this research also found challenges in implementing the Tablighi Jamaah’s da’wah, including negative assumptions from some communities, weak internal support in amar ma’ruf nahi munkar, as well as economic and geographical obstacles that influence the success of da’wah. However, the Tablighi Jamaah’s personal approach and consistency in preaching succeeded in overcoming most of these obstacles.

This approach was chosen to view religion as a social phenomenon that reflects identity, values, and symbols in the community. The research used a descriptive qualitative method. The approach used is religious anthropology, which aims to understand religious traditions in Tanjung Medan Village as a part of the social and cultural life of the local community. This approach helps researchers see religion not only as a spiritual aspect, but also as a social phenomenon that reflects the identities, values, and symbols that live in the community. The results of this research show that the tradition of reciting the Qur’an in graves in Tanjung Medan Village is a form of cultural acculturation between Islamic teachings and pre-existing local traditions. The people of Tanjung Medan Village solemnly carry out this tradition as a tribute to the deceased and as a reminder to those who are still alive about life after death. In its implementation, this tradition not only involves the immediate family but also the surrounding community, such as the Wirid group, who participate in reading prayers and verses from the Qur’an. In addition, this activity contains values of togetherness and solidarity, which are demonstrated in the reading of the Qur’an alternately by several people and in the provision of alms for participants. Overall, the tradition of reciting the Qur’an at graves In Tanjung Medan Village not only functions as a tribute to the dead but also as a means of conveying Islamic values in a way that is simple and easily accepted by the community

Abstract

Environmental issues have become an integral part of Muslim life. When Islam looks at ecological issues, environmental ideas emerge based on a form of constructive theology with a focus on the relationship between humans, nature and God. Religious doctrine has shown great concern for the environment. Humans, in their relationship with God, also relate to nature as fellow creatures of God. In dealing with God, humans need nature as a means to know and understand God. Pesantren as an Islamic educational institution cannot be separated from environmental issues. Based on the researcher's observation, it was found that in the pesantren environment there was still a lack of awareness in managing the environment. This research uses a descriptive-qualitative method with a religious phenomenology approach in analysing the awareness of environmental theology in Al-Faaruuq salafi pesantren and Bahrul Hidayah Cicalengka pesantren. The stages in this research are; orientation, exploration, and member check. The data sources taken are purposive sampling, namely figures who are considered important such as kiai/ustaz, santri, environmental activists, and the surrounding community. While the data collection process is done through observation, in-depth interviews, documentation. The findings in the first study, humans as God's representatives (khalifah), therefore humans must preserve nature. Because nature is His entrustment. Second, God must be used as the centre of the cosmos. In this case, it is the centre of teaching (tawhid), all human actions must go to God. Third, in Pesantren Al-Faaruuq and Pesantren Bahrul Hidayah, preserving the environment is obligatory, because it aims for the safety, welfare and sustainability of humans, even for the implementation of prayer rituals requires water to wash (wudu) and put nature as a theophany

Abstract

The codification of Islamic law (taqnīn) is crucial in providing legal certainty in marriage and divorce in Indonesia while maintaining the relevance of sharī’ah values amidst social changes. This study aims to examine the implementation of Law No. 1 of 1974 on Marriage and the Compilation of Islamic Law (KHI) in the context of madhhab pluralism. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method with normative and empirical analysis approaches. The findings reveal that the codification of Islamic law faces challenges in accommodating diverse fiqh perspectives, ensuring gender justice, and addressing the administrative needs of society. The maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah approach is an essential foundation for an inclusive transformation of Islamic law, particularly in aligning classical fiqh values with modern legal norms. This study recommends harmonizing Islamic law principles with the national legal system to create just, relevant, and beneficial regulations for Indonesian society

Abstract

The hijrah phenomenon has become part of the religious dynamics of contemporary society, especially among urban youth. The hijrah Youth Movement, known for its popular approach to preaching, combines religious values with popular culture and utilizes digital technology as a medium for preaching. This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of hijrah as a social construction using Berger's theory, which includes externalization, objectivation, and internalization. The research method used was descriptive qualitative, with a sociological approach and phenomenological analysis. The results showed that the hijrah movement developed as a response to social change and modernity and became a new religious identity for the millennial Muslim generation.  hijrah is not only understood as an individual spiritual transformation, but also as a collective social phenomenon that forms new patterns in religious practice. In addition, social media plays an important role in the spread of this movement, creating increasingly massive digital activism. However, the massiveness of the hijrah movement in cyberspace raises challenges to the deep understanding of the history and essence of the hijrah itself. Therefore, it is necessary to integrate the study of hijrah history into religious education to avoid distortion of meaning. Further research is needed to review the impact of this movement from a futurological perspective, especially in the face of an era of artificial intelligence that could affect future religious trends.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of developing a hadith learning model that is relevant to the local cultural context, especially in Indonesia, which is rich in cultural diversity. Wawacan Panganten Tujuh as an Islamic-based literary manuscript from Sundanese culture was chosen as a potential teaching material to enrich the hadith learning method. The integrative-Islamic pedagogy approach is used to integrate cultural values and Islamic teachings in the learning process, which is expected to increase students' understanding of hadith as well as strengthen their appreciation of local culture. The results of the study show that the learning model developed is not only effective in improving the understanding of hadith, but also provides a meaningful learning experience through the active involvement of students in their cultural context. This model combines the exploration of Sundanese culture with the teachings of hadith, allowing students to understand Islamic teachings in a more in-depth and contextual way. Unlike previous studies that only emphasized cultural aspects or content analysis, this study presents a holistic approach that integrates both aspects in a single learning model. The conclusion of this study confirms that the hadith learning model based on Wawacan Panganten Tujuh through an integrative-Islamic pedagogy approach is able to answer the needs of contextual Islamic education in Indonesia. The contribution of this research expands the scope of cultural-based Islamic education literature, although its implementation is still limited to certain areas. Further research is expected to develop similar models for other cultures and analyze the impact of their application more broadly in Islamic education

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate knowledge management practices in an Islam-based higher education environment, focusing on the utilisation of intellectual capital at Universitas Islam Nusantara Bandung. In the context of the digital era and global competition, higher education institutions’ ability to manage knowledge effectively is a key factor in improving academic quality and institutional competitiveness. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, and data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and institutional documentation. The results showed that knowledge management practices at Uninus covered the processes of knowledge identification, creation, dissemination, and implementation, although the implementation is still partial and conventional. The strategies implemented include the documentation of explicit knowledge and the capacity building of human resources in managing tacit knowledge. The conversion of tacit knowledge into explicit form is done through scientific forums and expertise-based assignments, but is not yet fully structured. Evaluation of the supporting tools indicates that some elements, such as document management, digital portals, expertise taxonomy, and ICT infrastructure, are available but not yet optimally integrated. These findings suggest that the effectiveness of knowledge management is highly dependent on the synergy between institutional strategy, technological readiness and organizational culture. Thus, this study suggests the importance of a holistic approach and strengthening institutional policies to maximise the potential of knowledge management in developing intellectual capital in Islamic higher education.

One of the factors that play an important role in improving the quality of education isstrategic management. The purpose of this research is to find out, examine, analyse, and understand in depth about the implementation of management functions in Islamic boarding schools, factors inhibiting the implementation of management functions in Islamic boarding schools; and solutions to obstacles to the implementation of management functions in realising the goals of Islamic boarding schools Nurul Huda and At-Thaariq Garut. The method in this study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive-holistic method and case study analysis that seeks to analyse the use of supporting tools for management practices. Based on the research results, Pondok Pesantren Nurul Huda and Pondok Pesantren At-Thaariq Garut have implemented strategic management which includes planning, directing, supervising, and evaluating, involving all divisions to achieve educational goals. However, obstacles such as lack of synergy, discipline, understanding of tasks, and conflict of orders between leaders still hinder the optimal implementation of strategies. In conclusion, to achieve better results, pesantren need to improve the analysis of HR needs, strengthen the discipline system, and conduct consistent evaluations. A collaborative and holistic approach in strategic management will help pesantren achieve their vision, mission, and expected education quality.

Abstract

This study examines how Islamic organizations in West Java use the Qur'an and Hadith as foundations for legal rulings (fatwas) in response to modern challenges. Focusing on Muhammadiyah, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), and Persatuan Islam (Persis), the research highlights how ijtihad (Islamic legal reasoning) adapts to social and technological changes. Comparative analysis reveals distinct methodological approaches: Muhammadiyah employs rational-textual methods (bayani, qiyasi, istishlahi), NU combines traditionalism with contextual flexibility, while Persis strictly follows scriptural sources. These differences produce varying fatwas - for example, Muhammadiyah declares smoking haram (forbidden) due to health risks, whereas NU and Persis consider it makruh (discouraged) due to weaker scriptural evidence. These variations stem from differing interpretations of texts, social considerations, and methodological priorities. The findings demonstrate Islamic law's ability to address contemporary issues while maintaining core principles. The study suggests that fatwa differences reflect each organization's intellectual tradition and social context rather than fundamental disagreements about Islamic law. Future research could explore: (1) regional variations in fatwa formulation across Indonesia, (2) interdisciplinary studies combining Islamic jurisprudence with social sciences, and (3) the impact of digital technology on ijtihad processes. Such studies would deepen understanding of how Islamic legal traditions interact with modernity in diverse Muslim communities.
