Abstract

The settlement is identical to the space and facilities of the general public. The wilderness of the Kaili who settled at the foot of Mount Sidole - the village of Taripa is not deprived of the space and facilities of their settlement physically. Behind the physical reality, there is supposedly a non-physical reality that glides and reinforces the existence of its settlements that are urgently needed to be revealed from the point of view of local wisdom. This research aims to reveal the local wisdom of the Kaili tribal community settlements in Taripa Village, Donggala district. The results of the local Wisdom of Kaili Tribal Settlements at Taripa village are the ability to preserve indigenous culture against external culture, have the capacity to help external cultural elements, able to give direction to the cultural development in the modern society that means social, order and interaction in the life of the community that includes customs, beliefs. Local wisdom on forest conservation in these settlements reflects local wisdom through the settlement ordering process in the dimensions, shapes and layouts of the element of settlement.

Abstract

Abstract

Natural lighting is one of the design aspects that needs attention because it greatly affects the comfort of a space and energy usage. Boarding houses are a type of residential function that faces challenges, especially during the Covid pandemic, which forced residents to stay in their rooms while still being energy efficient. Optimal use of daylight is a middle ground to address these two major challenges faced by architects today. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the design of boarding houses that have been built, particularly those located in Kendari city. The results show that the natural lighting in these boarding houses does not meet the standards and needs to increase its dimensions by 420% from the original size. This result will later serve as a consideration for designers, especially owners, when planning renovations

Abstract

For the effectiveness and smoothness in handling disasters and emergencies in the city of Palu, it is deemed necessary to have a Public Safety Center building that will facilitate disaster mitigation activities and serve as a first aid station in emergencies caused by disasters and accidents. According to the Regulation of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Number 19 of 2016, the Public Safety Center (PSC) is a service center that guarantees the community's needs in matters related to emergencies within the district/city. Furthermore, because this building serves as a safety center, the design will incorporate a form concept approach that responds to earthquake disasters. This research is a study that uses the architectural design method. The architectural design method is a design process that will produce a design based on data collected beforehand, where the data is highly relevant to the research. The data were obtained through interviews, surveys, and field observations. The design concept of the building form for the Integrated Safety Service Center was created with a basic square shape. This shape was chosen with the consideration of aligning with the building's function, thereby facilitating users in carrying out their activities. Additionally, this shape is also deemed to ease its arrangement on the planning site. Because, as is known, the square shape has a character that is easy and efficient in its arrangement. Moreover, if we refer to the regulations of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) regarding earthquake-resistant building shape standards, the basic shape of the Integrated Safety Service Center building as the design object is in accordance with the earthquake-resistant building floor plan shape standard, which is a square-shaped floor plan

Abstract

Protected areas play an important role in maintaining environmental sustainability, especially in rapidly developing urban areas. However, managing these protected areas faces significant challenges due to the pressure of space demands for housing and other community activities. This study examines the phenomenon of redevelopment within protected areas in Kelurahan Balaroa, Kota Palu, revealing that disaster-affected communities have chosen to rebuild their homes in these areas. Observations using Geographic Information System (GIS) methods show that approximately 3% of the total protected area is now occupied by buildings, covering around 1.57 hectares. The findings of this study identify the factors motivating the community to rebuild in these areas and explore the government’s efforts to address this issue. A comprehensive understanding of these factors is expected to form the basis for developing more effective policies for sustainable management of protected areas in the future.

Abstract

Increasing natural light illumination can reduce lighting energy but has the potential to increase ventilation energy due to higher heat gains in buildings. This condition presents a research problem to determine the optimal compromise for integrating natural light in lighting systems to achieve energy efficiency by examining the impact of building envelopes. The simulation object is a hypothetical, multi-story, air-conditioned office building with a typical floor area of 1600 m², measuring 40m x 40m. The WWR variable is set within a range of 10% - 70%, and the VT variable ranges from 0.1 to 0.9, with an orientation of 0º to the north. The simulation utilizes EnergyPlus v7.0 software, OpenStudio v7.0 plugins, LBNL Window 6.3, and Dialux 10.0. The research results show that integrating natural lighting can reduce lighting energy consumption by up to 66%, ventilation energy by up to 6%, and total energy by up to 20%. The combination of WWR and VT affects energy reduction. Smaller WWRs require low VT glass, medium WWRs require medium VT glass, and larger WWRs require high VT glass. The best energy performance is achieved with medium WWR and medium VT, specifically with a WWR configuration of 50% and glass VT of 0.5. The east and west sides have the highest levels of natural light illumination but also the highest heat gains, while the north and south sides effectively utilize natural lighting with large WWRs. A floor plan ratio of 3:1 is optimal for lighting energy performance, while a 1:2 ratio is best for total energy performance in comparable configurations. Shading components improve energy efficiency by up to 2% for lightshelf types and 4% for overhang types. The level of energy efficiency is also determined by the mechanical systems selected for lighting control, light, and AC types

Abstract

This study explores the relationship between biomimicry, biomorphic, and ecological architecture, and aims to determine whether biomimicry and biomorphics can be categorized into ecological architecture. Biomimicry architecture mimics nature's shapes, systems, and mechanisms to create efficient and sustainable designs, while biomorphic architecture focuses more on nature-inspired organic aesthetics and forms. This study uses a descriptive-comparative approach, analyzing the basic principles of the three architectural approaches based on the theory developed by Frick (2007) about the principles of ecological architecture. The results show that biomimicry architecture is very much in line with the principles of ecological architecture, especially in terms of energy efficiency and sustainability, with a high average score. In contrast, biomorphic architecture is more aesthetically oriented and tends to meet sustainability criteria less, although it still contributes positively to the experience of the space. The study concludes that biomimicry architecture can be classified as part of ecological architecture, while biomorphic is more complementary in aesthetic aspects.

Abstract

Thermally comfortable tropical building designs must respond to sunlight exposure. Detailed data on the duration of sunlight exposure during the equinox and solstice periods is still limited. This study aims to analyze sunlight exposure during the equinox and solstice periods. The research was conducted using the Forma application, a 3D simulation product. The results show that the roof receives the highest sunlight exposure, reaching 9 hours per day during the equinox, while some areas of the building facade only receive exposure for less than 1 hour per day during the solstice. These findings provide important insights into the optimization of shading design and energy efficiency in tropical buildings. This research has a positive impact on architectural knowledge, demonstrating that simulation-based design can be used in creating sustainable tropical buildings
