Abstract

Fixed Term To Employment Agreement (PKWT) is one form of employment relationship that is needed and has been regulated in the legislation. This change covers aspects of work duration, compensation arrangements, contract flexibility, and labor protection. The existence of legislation on Job Creation makes it easier for companies to use PKWT, including more flexible contract extensions. However, on the other hand, and there are concerns that this new regulation could reduce job stability and guarantees of rights for the workers, especially in terms of the social security, and end-of-contract compensation, and protection against termination of employment. The new regulation also poses challenges in implementation, especially in ensuring company compliance with compensation obligations and avoiding potential abuse.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has co-existed alongside a far less visible “shadow pandemic” of violence against women, with COVID-19 impacting the number and complexity of domestic violence cases and enabling new tactics for coercive control. This article provides a preliminary assessment of the extent to which Canada’s responses to the COVID-19 pandemic have prioritized the safety of women and children, with a focus on the courts and women’s access to justice. We examine court directives and judicial decisions triaging which cases would be heard as “urgent,” as well as courts’ decisions on the merits in cases involving domestic violence and COVID-19, spanning the areas of family, child welfare, criminal law, and civil protection orders. In the sixty-seven reported decisions in our sample, we find very little awareness overall of the heightened risks for survivors during COVID-19, in keeping with the prepandemic tendency of decision makers to focus on incident-based physical violence instead of patterns of coercive control. Our analysis also suggests that survivors’ability to  prove domestic violence and secure court orders that would help to ensure their safety was hampered not only by procedural complexity but also by the reduced availability of a range of services—health, counselling, housing, and supervised access centres, for example as a result of COVID-19

Abstract

In  2016,  the  Italian  Parliament  passed  a  law  that  extended  to  same-sex  couples  most  of  the  rights  of  married  heterosexual  couples. However, the  possibility  of  a  partner  in  a  same-sex  couple  adopting  the  biological  children  of  the  other  partner  so  contro-versial that  it  had  to  be  deleted  in  order  for  the  law  to  pass,  thus  denying  lesbian  and  gay  was  parents  the  legal  protection  they  need.  In  this  article,  we  analyze  the  speeches of  Parliamentarians  who  opposed  the  section  of  the  bill  concerning  lesbian  and  gay  parenthood. The  empirical  analysis  shows  different  discursive  strategies  deployed  by  MPs  to  combat  the  challenges  to  the  heteronormative family,  whose  common  reference  is  the  hegemonic  model  of  gender  which  has  characterized  the  resistance  of  the  Catholic  Church to  the  recognition  of  non-heterosexual  reproduction  and  kinship.  Findings  highlight  that  the  opposition  to  the  recognition  of  gay  and lesbian  parents  contributes  to  reiterating  restrictive  standards  of  motherhood  and  to  maintaining  the  institutionalization  of  sexualities and  reproduction  within  the  patriarchal  order.  Implications  of  the  research  findings  for  public  and  social  policies  are  discussed.

Abstract

Contact with child protection systems are a key site of the expression of social inequalities, yet research into the size and nature of this relationship remains sparse in Jakarta system context. This article reports on a study of the relationships between child protection system contact and small area-level deprivation. Using a national linked dataset including all children with system contact in 2013–14, (n =13,851 children) it found there is a marked relationship between deprivation and system contact, and significant differences between regions for all three outcomes of interest. Compared to children living in the least deprived quintile of small areas, children in the most deprived quintile had, on average, 13 times the rate of substantiation, 18 times the rate of a family group conference, and 6 times their chance of placement in foster care. There was limited evidence for the ‘inverse intervention law’ that proposes that children in similarly deprived small areas have higher rates of child protection system contact if they live in less deprived regions (larger areas). The pattern of placements showed the strongest support for this law, with children in similarly deprived small areas having, on average, almost twice the rate of placement if they lived in less deprived regions compared to more deprived regions. These findings have implications for policy, as they suggest a need to apply an inequalities perspective to child protection similarly to health inequities. Specifically, action is needed to address the causes of deprivation, provide services that respond to families living in poverty, address biases, and undertake further research to examine the interactions between demand and supply of services between similar deprivation levels.

Abstract

PT Sinar Semesta is a company engaged in the casting and machining industry. During production processes, workers are exposed to hazardous materials and face potential risks such as workplace accidents, fires, and environmental pollution. To identify and mitigate these risks, the company implements the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) method. This approach is used to analyze various workplace hazards and establish preventive measures to minimize accidents. Based on the analysis, 13 types of jobs were identified as high-risk, particularly in the induction, casting, and molding stages. Some of these jobs fall into the very high-risk category, posing serious accident threats. Therefore, implementing JSA is an effective strategy for reducing workplace hazards. To enhance occupational safety, the company must prioritize control measures, provide adequate safety facilities, and ensure that workers properly utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). These steps are crucial in creating a safer and more secure work environment.

Abstract

Stocks as an economic instrument are now becoming a favorite among the public, especially attracting high attention from young people or millennials. Factors that can affect stock returns are economic conditions, inflation, interest rates, dividends, company performance and so on. Therefore, inflation and interest rate factors play a key role in influencing stock returns, high inflation can harm company profitability and people's purchasing power. A hypothesis suggests that inflation has a negative effect on stock returns. On the other hand, low interest rates can stimulate investment and economic growth. This research is a quantitative study to develop and use mathematical models, theories, or hypotheses related to other phenomena. This article conducts research on "The effect of inflation and interest rates on stock returns in the manufacturing sector of the industry on the IDX." The results of the study show that the inflation variable has a greater effect on stock returns compared to the interest rate variable. Inflation is more capable of explaining its effect on stock returns, because its effect is more stable and more measurable in the long term.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the strategies employed by notaries to maintain independence and professionalism amid client pressure. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, data were collected through in-depth interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation involving active notaries in major cities. The findings reveal that notaries apply various strategies, including assertively rejecting inappropriate client requests, referring to the Code of Ethics and Notary Law, consulting with professional peers, and managing pressure through professional communication. Assertive refusals are delivered politely with legal reasoning, while references to regulations strengthen their position. Peer consultation serves as a collective ethical mechanism, and communicative approaches help clients understand the legal limits of notarial roles. These strategies are adaptive, contextual, and demonstrate a synergy between legal norms, ethical awareness, and interpersonal skills. The study concludes that notaries can uphold professionalism and independence through a combination of legal, ethical, and communicative approaches. These findings are expected to contribute to notarial professional development and the enhancement of ethical standards in notarial practice.

Abstract

PT Sinar Semesta is a company operating in the field of metal casting and machining. In its daily production activities, workers frequently come into contact with hazardous materials that pose potential risks such as fire, workplace accidents, and environmental pollution. Therefore, the implementation of the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) method becomes a crucial step in identifying potential hazards and formulating appropriate preventive measures. JSA serves as a tool to identify risks present in the work environment and as a reference for determining suitable control measures to minimize the likelihood of accidents. Based on the hazard identification results, 13 work activities were found to fall into the high-risk category. Among these, the induction and casting/molding processes were classified as having the highest risk levels, with a strong potential to trigger workplace accidents if not properly managed. From this analysis, it can be concluded that the application of JSA plays a significant role in reducing accident risks, particularly in metal casting operations. To enhance the effectiveness of risk prevention, the company must prioritize risk control strategies—such as requiring all workers to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Furthermore, it is essential to strengthen the supervision of safety procedure implementation and ensure that adequate PPE facilities are available at every stage of the production process. These efforts aim to create a safer work environment while supporting efficient and risk-free production continuity.
