Abstract

Religious radicalism is still a big challenge in today's Islamic education world. Much of the Islamic educational material is still centered on a textual approach and rules, while spiritual aspects and reflective thinking are less considered in the curriculum. One of the philosophical approaches that can be considered is Wahdatul Wujud. This concept is very suitable for forming an inclusive and non-closed religious awareness, so that it can be one way to reduce radicalism among students. This study uses a literature study method to see the role of Wahdatul Wujud in the Sufism tradition, take the educational values it contains, and assess how relevant this concept is in an effort to minimize radicalism in Islamic education. The results show that combining the values of Wahdatul Wujud in the Islamic curriculum can enrich religious education materials with a humane spiritual approach, as well as help form the character of students who are moderate, tolerant, and not tempted by radicalism.

Abstract

The environmental crisis in agrarian regions of Banyuwangi challenges the role of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) as agents of ecological transformation through Islamic ecotheology. This study examines how environmental stewardship is understood and practiced as an act of worship at Pondok Pesantren Darussalam Puncak, focusing on theological constructions (tawḥīd khilāfah), everyday environmental ethics, and the integration of ecological practices into religious life. The primary objective is to reveal the relational nexus between humans, nature, and God within the ecological habitus of santri through an interpretive qualitative case study. The research employed in-depth interviews with ten informants (kiai, santri, and administrators) and systematic observation over a two-month period. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, encompassing data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings identify three central themes: a theological framing of nature as a divine trust (amānah), ritualized practices such as collective communal work (ro’an) understood as acts of worship, and institutional constraints, particularly limitations in ecological infrastructure. The study concludes that Islamic ecotheology at Pesantren Darussalam shapes environmental ethics through the mediation of kiai authority and the ritualization of ecological habitus, although these processes remain constrained by structural limitations. The theoretical contribution of this study lies in proposing a contextual model of “practical ecotheology” rooted in East Javanese pesantren culture. Practically, the findings suggest the integration of ḥifẓ al-bi’ah (environmental preservation) as a compulsory curriculum component to support the national replication of green pesantren initiatives.

Abstract

The current technological era makes Kinderflix-based audio-visual media the latest breakthrough in stimulating children's gross motor skills to jump correctly according to foot support. This study aims to determine the effect of Kinderflix-based audio-visual media on the jumping ability of children aged 4-5 years through animal themes at RA Al Anwar, Balak Village, Songgon District. The implementation of this study uses a quantitative method with the type of Pre-Experimental Design. The population in this study has 12 children aged 4-5 years with purposive sampling to 8 children according to problems in children's abilities. Non-participant observation was carried out as data collection using observation sheets, as well as documentation of the implementation of the study. The results of data collection were analyzed using statistical tests with prerequisite tests first using normality tests with a pretest significance value of 0.246 and a posttest significance value of 0.334 which were normally distributed. The results of the hypothesis test using the t-test (Paired Dependent Sample T Test) with the help of the IMB SPSS statistics 26 application, where the sig. (2-tailed) value shows a significance value of 0.026 <0.05 that kinderflix-based audio-visual media has an effect on the jumping ability of children aged 4-5 years. The research findings show that children's jumping ability can be stimulated through movements imitating surrounding animals. This research is expected to provide theoretical and practical contributions in stimulating the jumping ability of early childhood as a foundation for realizing the next golden generation.

Abstract

In the past, developmental evaluations have been done in Malaysia on the basis of growth centric measurements and have thus often overlooked the real socio-human situation. This paper attempts to review Sarong Index, a groundbreaking account of the concept of development based on humanity in the Malaysian context by Ungku Aziz. Using a qualitative interpretative approach to the corpus of writings of Ungku Aziz and a contemplative evaluation of his policy propositions, the paper clarifies the functional aspects of the Sarong Index as a socio economic indicator that is able to predict poverty and dignity, and the material aspects that define daily life realities, rather than just a rise in aggregate income. The analysis places the Sarong Index in the larger context of human-centred development paradigm and discusses its usefulness as a locally-based substitute of the traditional measures that promote the adoption of Maqasid Shariah compliance. The argument is supported by aligning the views of Ungku Aziz to the development trajectory in Malaysia after gaining independence, hence the Sarong Index, which would be a logical, though ethically conscious assessment, can be considered rational. The contribution will enhance the academic discourse on the inclusive development by demonstrating how the local or indigenous-based indicators and context-specific frameworks can support the mainstream development indicators in measuring the human welfare.

Abstract

The development of information and communication technology over the past two decades has brought significant changes to children’s social interaction patterns, particularly for elementary school-aged children. Today, children grow up in digital environments saturated with social media, online games, and instant communication platforms, which influence their language style, emotional expression, and social behavior. This study aims to describe the role of parents in fostering soft spoken communication, identify the strategies implemented, analyze challenges in the digital era, and formulate solutions to strengthen the consistency of family communication. The study employed a field research method with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation involving primary informants parents of students and supporting informants, including teachers and students at SD Jeruk 1. Data analysis was conducted systematically through data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that soft spoken communication reflects politeness, self-control, empathy, and respect for interlocutors, embodying children’s emotional maturity and internalization of polite values. Parents play a central role through modeling, habituating manners, positive reinforcement, developing emotional intelligence, and managing family digital literacy. These strategies include monitoring gadget usage, actively guiding children’s digital media consumption, and instilling daily polite language habits. The digital era presents challenges such as exposure to aggressive communication, limited interaction, and technoference, yet these can be leveraged educationally if properly managed. In conclusion, the development of a soft spoken character in children is a multidimensional process involving linguistic, psychological, social, and digital aspects in an integrated manner. Families, especially parents, serve as the primary foundation, while schools reinforce values through synergistic partnerships, enabling children to consistently practice polite communication in the digital era.

Abstract

In the era of increasingly massive digitalization and globalization, elementary school students face serious challenges in the form of weakening humanitarian values and local cultural identity. This condition emphasizes the urgency of implementing inclusive learning that not only guarantees access to learning for all students but also strengthens humanist Islamic values from an early age. This study aims to examine the implementation of the Thursday Cultural Program as a form of inclusive learning based on local wisdom in strengthening humanist values and cultural identity of students. The study used a qualitative approach with a case study design implemented at Seputih 01 Mayang Public Elementary School. Data were collected through interviews with theprincipal, teachers, and students, observations of school activities, and program documentation. The results show that the Thursday Cultural Program, through the obligation to wear traditional clothing every Thursday, is able to create an inclusive, participatory, and equitable learning climate. This program not only functions as a cultural preservation but also serves as a medium for internalizing humanist Islamic values, such as mutual respect (tasāmuh) among students, justice and equality in learning treatment ('adl), and social concern and empathy (rahmah). Despite initial challenges related to parental readiness and adjustments to teacher dress codes, the support of the entire school community was a key factor in the program's sustainability. These findings imply the importance of integrating local wisdom as an inclusive learning strategy to strengthen character education, humanitarian values, and cultural resilience in students in the digital age.

Abstract

Globalization and the massive exposure to foreign popular culture have gradually reduced elementary school students’ understanding of local cultural narratives, potentially weakening the development of patriotic character from an early age. This study aims to analyze the role of folklore rooted in local wisdom in fostering love for the homeland at the elementary school level. The research adopts a literature review approach by analyzing 13 scholarly articles related to storytelling, local wisdom, and character education. The findings show that folklore based on local wisdom contributes positively to the development of patriotic character by (1) strengthening students’ emotional bonds with local culture, (2) enhancing the understanding of nationalism values through contextual local figures and events, and (3) creating meaningful learning experiences when integrated with visual media and reflective activities. These findings suggest that folklore grounded in local wisdom represents a pedagogical strategy with strong potential to reinforce patriotic character among elementary school students.

Abstract

This article examines the theological debate on the status of the Qur'an between two prominent 17th-century Nusantara Islamic thinkers, Hamzah Fansuri and Nuruddin Ar-Raniri. The research focuses on their perspectives on whether the Qur'an is qadim (eternal, uncreated) or creature (created). Using a literary reception approach in philological studies, the research aims to analyze the textual arguments used by both figures based on their works, understand how their respective theological backgrounds influence the interpretation and reception of the Qur'anic text, and reveal the implications of these differing views on how to read, interpret, and live the Qur'an in the context of Nusantara Islamic thought. Hamzah Fansuri, as a follower of Wujudiyah Sufism, argues that the Qur'an is qadim because it is a manifestation of the Word of God that is inseparable from the Essence of Allah. Meanwhile, Nuruddin Ar-Raniri, who holds an Asy'ariyah theological view, argues that the Qur'an is a new creation of Allah (hadith), although its meaning remains qadim. This study is expected to provide a deeper understanding of the dynamics of Islamic thought in the archipelago and the complexity of the relationship between sacred texts, interpretations, and intellectual contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze strategies for strengthening community-based economic sustainability through the empowerment of Islamic boarding school cooperatives. The research focuses on the Kiai Syarifuddin Islamic Boarding School Cooperative in Lumajang, which faces various institutional, managerial, and business planning challenges. The study employs a qualitative approach using a participatory field research design. Data were collected through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, and documentation. The research participants consisted of 25 cooperative managers and members. The findings reveal that the main issues include unsystematic financial administration, weak business planning, and limited managerial capacity. Empowerment interventions through governance training, basic bookkeeping practices, business management assistance, and the development of a sustainable business plan have proven effective in improving financial literacy, managerial skills, and the collective commitment of the cooperative managers. These findings affirm that pesantren cooperatives have strong potential to become pillars of community-based economic development when managed professionally, transparently, and with a long-term orientation.

Abstract

The tradition of welcoming the return of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims is a socio-religious practice that has long developed within Indonesian society as an expression of gratitude, respect, and social solidarity. However, along with the passage of time, this tradition has undergone cultural transformations that have affected both its meaning and practice. This study aims to examine cultural transformation in the tradition of welcoming returning Hajj and Umrah pilgrims in Jember Regency, focusing on welcoming practices involving the use of sound horeg as well as social practices in the domestic sphere following the pilgrims’ return. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method, utilizing observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation techniques. The findings reveal a shift from sacred and collective socio-religious rituals toward more complex social practices characterized by expressions of popular culture and socio-economic demands. The use of sound horeg functions not only as a form of entertainment but also as a symbol of identity, prestige, and social pride. Furthermore, the practice of providing meals and souvenirs has transformed into an unwritten social obligation that generates psychological pressure, particularly for pilgrims with limited economic resources. These findings indicate an ongoing negotiation between religious values, popular culture, and social realities within the tradition of welcoming returning Hajj and Umrah pilgrims.
