Abstract

Conflicts with religious backgrounds are a phenomenon that often occurs unexpectedly around us. These events can inspire authors to write into the literary works that they produce. Social conditions cannot be separated from the process of the birth of a literary work. This paper aims to describe the social structure that influences the author in writing a literary work, as well as how the author tries to build a narrative to influence the social structure through his work. The formulation of the research problem is related to whether the social structure affects the agent (author) and how the agent (author) represents what is in Maryam's novel. The theory used in this research is the structuration concept proposed by Anthony Giddens. The results showed that the social structure, especially about the Ahmadiyah conflict on the island of Lombok, influenced Okky Madasari as an author (agent) in producing the novel Maryam. There are also ideas developed by Okky Madasari which aim to influence the social structure through his work. This is where the duality process between social structures and agents influences one another.

Abstract

This paper aims to discuss the development of institutionalization of Sayyid Genealogy, Hadrami’s diaspora, and its expanding network process in Indonesia contemporary Sufism. During last three decades, the Hadrami has been embarking on occupying the Islamic public by establishing majelis shalawat and organizing “shalawat bersama”. This research was conducted towards Ahbabul Musthofa’s Majelis Shalawat in Solo, Central Java. Shalawat Bersama which is introduced through the recitation of prophetic hagiography and rihlah as the way to express love and, following Bourdieu’s view-as a rite to institutionalize the exclusivity of sayyid genealogy. The establishment of this Sufism religious-esthetic ethos is enabled by the economical-political historical situation of their indigenization in Indonesia. This ethnographic research showed that within the emergence of capitalism and democratic state context, Shalawat Bersama and Majelis Shalawat that thrive in the regions are not only using the media industry (audio-visual), but also—to assume—using modern marketing logic. This logic of majelis development is concepted as a “religious franchise” which means a religious movement which is based on a marketing logic through the branches established in the regions in order to promote and create direct certain religious practices supported by certain standards, especially the reference of sufistic piety and its particular performativity.

Abstract

The food and beverage industry has the largest market share in the world. In Muslim countries, this industry contributes 16.6% of the total global food and beverage industry. The size of this industry in general also reflects the large potential of halal food and beverages. In Indonesia, the very high growth in consumption of halal food is driven by various factors, such as the desire of Muslim consumers to consume food ingredients in a halal and good manner (thayyib) according to religious orders. This study aims to determine the effect of halal literacy, halal labeling, Islamic branding, and religious commitment on the decision to purchase halal food at Tsabita Halal Bakery. This research is a descriptive quantitative type. This study uses data analysis techniques Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) or structural equation model. Sampling using simple random sampling. The results of this study indicate that halal literacy and halal labels have a contribution in encouraging consumers to buy halal food at Tsabita Halal Bakery. While Islamic branding and religious commitment have no influence on the purchase of halal food at Tsabita Halal Bakery. For this reason, Tsabita needs to strengthen her Islamic branding and continue with Islamic marketing through social media, considering that the millennial generation is very social media literate. Religious commitment also has no effect on purchases, it can be caused by the low level of respondents' religiosity.

Abstract

Using ideology in interpretation has become a major problem since the codification of interpretation. This kind of interpretation model emphasizes the meaning leads to a certain ideology to expand the range of understanding through publications. This was done by Hassan in his work, Tafsir al-Furqan, who made it as a medium of da'wah to spread Persis's belief about Islam. This study aims to find the ideological narrative in Hassan's interpretation. This study uses a qualitative method with content analysis as a data analysis tool to achieve this goal. This study finds that Hassan's efforts to provide a normative understanding of Islam with purification efforts start from positioning the Qur'an as the main guide that eliminates all existence of previous traditions. With this argument, all forms of tradition preservation and knowledge development cannot be the basis for forming a new religious practice that is not found in the Qur'an. Muslims must fully adhere to the Qur'an as the basis of Persis ideology.

Abstract

This paper explains Islam Kejawen as the adoption of local wisdom learned from generation to generation by the Javanese community. Influenced by Hindu and Buddhist teachings. Then the acculturation process becomes a part of the belief called Kapitayan. After the arrival of saints in Java, the spread of the religion Islam still maintains the existing ritual culture, such as through songs and puppets. Islam is spread in the form of simple teachings of the recognition of God without removing hereditary rituals carried out by Javanese communities before. Both are verycoherent after Islam and Java united in one religious and spiritual bond. It seems as if it cannot be distinguished which is Javanese culture and which is Islam. Then the mixing of these two, or well-known as syncretism, became a form and characteristic of Islam in Java. Because in general, the syncretism between Islam and the local culture has entered various lines of life in multipleregions. However, based on socio-geographical conditions, we can be more observant ofthe intensity of the spread of the mixing of Islamic and Javanese teaching.

Abstract

The study aims to describe the dimensions of the text of the Model Model Teun A Van Dijk in the discourse of opinion news text. The research is an online newspaper republika.com and nu.or.id in the form of opinion news texts about the Taliban's coup against the Afghan government. Data collection methods and techniques use documentation methods with listen and note techniques, while data analysis methods use content analysis methods with the critical discourse analysis approach of teun A Van Dijk model. The results found that the news contains three-dimensional text based on Teun A Van Dijk's theory, namely superstructure, macrostructure, and microstructure. From that dimension, it shows that the text of republika.com opinion has a keyakjinan preference that the Taliban can bring about better change for the Afghan government.  Instead, the opinion text nu.or.id contained a preference for fears of Afghanistan's survival under the Taliban and vigilance for the world community about the adverse effects that could occur anywhere. The difference in perspective shows the subjectivity of a   media in looking at a problem so as to represent the ideology of the media according to its social goals

Abstract

This article describes how globalisation paves a way toward Thailand's decision to develop its gastrodiplomacy strategy. In more detail, the practice that the author will examine is the practice of Thai gastrodiplomacy with Indonesia, which is directed explicitly to promoting their halal products. This research is descriptive and uses a case study approach, which may provide a deeper picture of a phenomenon in social sciences. Through the Thailand case study, we can see that so far, countries that have a comparative advantage in the culinary field can also respond to globalisation in their way. Responding to the high demand from the global trend of halal tourism, Thailand has slightly adjusted its gastrodiplomacy strategy towards the halal aspect. This also improves the image of those already popular with sex tourism. Uniquely, this halal gastrodiplomacy has also made them successful in gaining markets in other countries despite not being a Muslim-majority country. This research highlights that the practice of gastrodiplomacy can be viewed from various perspectives. One of them is the perspective of globalisation, which investigates how interactions between people can change our perception of objective and subjective needs and how linking these two needs creates new modes of activity.
