Abstract

This research aims to determine the type of figurative language in Niki's song lyrics on Nicole's album and the type of figurative language that is most dominant in Niki's song lyrics on Nicole's album. This research has two problems, namely the first is looking for figurative language in Niki's album and looking for the most dominant figurative language in Niki's album. The method used is the Qualitative Descriptive Method. The data for this research are song lyrics that contain figurative language. The data source for this research is Nicole Albums which was released on August 11, 2022. This research data is the song lyrics of five songs taken randomly by Niki, namely "Backburner", "Anaheim", "Oceans & Engines", On "Home Drive" and "Take a Chance With Me". The instruments of this research are observation and documentation. The results obtained were 8 types of Figurative Language, namely 5 Alliterations, 10 Hyperbole, 14 Metaphors, 3 Similes, 4 Symbols, 3 Personifications, 1 Metonymy, 6 Irony. And the most dominant figurative language used in Nicole's albums is metaphor, with the percentage of alliteration accounting for 11%, hyperbole 22%, metaphor 30%, simile 7%, symbol 9%, personification 7%, metonymy 2%, and finally 13% irony.

Abstract

The problem of this research was the Eighth- grade students of SMPN 1 Kuindra got problem while they speak in front of the class. It is assumed that their perception of their speaking performance is the cause of this problem . Therefore, the purpose of this research is to know “students’ Perception on the Speaking Performance in the classroom at the Eighth Grade of SMPN 1 Kuindra”. This research was descriptive quantitative research. The researcher was distributing questionnaire to 31 respondents to answer the purpose above. The sample was taken by using saturated sampling, because the sample is limited. After collecting the data, the researcher found that students’ perception on speaking performance is in good level. It can be interpreted that, most of students of the eighth-grade of SMPN 1 Kuindra perhaps can become a good speaking performers. It means not only good or bad perception can influence students’ speaking but also some other factors.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to find out and describe the students’ narrative text equivalence, to find out the equivalence level of students’ translation, and to figure out the students’ difficulties in translating and their solution to overcome the problem. The population of the research was a sixth semester students’ of English study program, while the participant was 14 students. The study used a descriptive qualitative method with the instruments is test. The research findings showed that 52.5% of students’ translation exceeded the ‘average’ standard, it was dynamic equivalence translation with almost half of participant did that. Then, the second highest category was formal equivalence with the total 34.4% or at the ‘low’ standard. In the last, students’ translate non-equivalence with the total 7.2%, or at ‘very low’ standard. Meanwhile, the research finding showed that there were two primary difficulties faced by the students: difficulty to understand the meaning of the text and difficulty finding the most equivalent meaning in bahasa. To overcome those problems, they used a guessing strategy to understand the meaning of the sentence. Overall, it can be concluded that the equivalence of the translation narrative text English into Indonesia by the sixth semester students of English study program was fair.

Abstract

The students low motivation in learning English language caused their low in mastering vocabulary. They were not interested because the strategy used by the English teacher when teaching was not interesting. therefore, this research aimed to know the effectiveness of using Silent Way Method on Students’ Vocabulary Mastery. The design of this research was pre-experimental research using one group pre-test and post-test at the seventh grade of MTS Al-Mannan Bagik Nyaka 2023/2024 academic year. The population of this study is class VII at MTS Al-Mannan Bagik Nyaka, in which one class consist of 29 students and this research will just be conducted in one class.The sample of this research is the students of class VII at MTS Al-Mannan, in which the total of them are 29 students. To get the data of this research, the researcher gave test as an instrument which included pre-test and post-test in form of multiple choices test, consist of 20 items questions for each. The learning process was two meetings, As the result, the average in post-test is 79.83 and the pre-test class is 50.86. The researcher employed the paired sample T-test to analyze the data following data calculation. Considering the significance score of 0.000 (<0.005), it can be said that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. Therefore, there was a significant effect of using Silent Way Method on Students Vocabulary Mastery.

Abstract

In making observation, the researcher found that many students had problems in learning methods in class and also problems in reading comprehension because of them felt that they did not know what the text was about. In reading ability the students find it difficult to understand the text given during the learning process in the class. In this research, the researcher used the Quizizz application with different features than usual but it is more effective in evaluating students learning in teaching reading in a text. The population of this study was all second semester students, totaling 20 students in English Study Program at Islamic University of Indragiri. To get the research data, the researcher gave a test as an instrument. The result of this study indicate that the average score in before using quizizz was 46 while in after using quizizz was 38. The result of analysis, it showed that the value T-observed 1.23 was lower than T-table was 2.03 and 2.72 in significant 5% and 1%. Based on the result, it was provided that the null hypothesis (H0) was accepted and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was rejected. Therefore, there was no a significant effect of using quizizz on students’ ability in reading comprehension at English Study Program Islamic University of Indragiri.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze students' abilities in writing texts at MTs NU Trate Gresik. The research design is qualitative descriptive research. Data was obtained from thirty(Husna, 2018)class VIII students of MTs NU Trate Gresik randomly. This research data was collected using three types of instruments. Namely with written tests, interviews and documentation. This observation aims to determine the condition of the class during learning. The interview aims to obtain data regarding factors that influence student interest. And documentation is a supporting instrument in data collection. The research results are presented in a qualitative descriptive manner. based on the analysis, the mean score of students' descriptive writing ability was 15.3, indicating good ability. Their average scores in the content category were 3.2 (good), organization 3 (fair), vocabulary 2.8 (poor), grammar 3.2 (good), and mechanics 3.1 (fair). The test results show that students find it difficult to write descriptive texts, especially with grammar rules such as simple present tense and providing detailed descriptions. Many students struggled to form complete sentences, spell correctly, and had limited vocabulary which led to the use of repetitive words in their writing.

Abstract

Instagram is a mobile application designed to enhance the photo-sharing experience on social media platforms. Instagram is one of social media that had been used by educator in learning process. Instagram included elements that make it potentially useful for language learning activities, the platform has been used extensively in the educational sector. Therefore, this research attempted to explore the opinions of non-English department students on the usage of Instagram for speaking English. This research used quantitative method, and the research design was survey. The population used 82 respondents non major English Department of STAI Hubbulwathan Duri at the first semester, academic year 2023-2024. The respondents consist of Islamic education department, development of Islamic society department, and Syariah banking Department. The students have the same qualification and academic background before doing a survey. They had ever learned speaking English by using Instagram. The reseracher took all respondents as sample in this research because size of the population be fewer 100. The researcher used questionnaires for data collection techniques, speaking in class while gathering information. This research investigated non English department students’ perception on the use instagram in speaking English showed positive perception in using instagram in speaking English. The percentage of agree was 81,16%. It showed Students can practice in a different environment on Instagram, which boosts their confidence. Additionally, the students felt at ease utilizing Instagram as a forum for speaking English and less bothered by their mistakes. They also felt encouraged in speaking English.

Abstract

This paper discusses interactional patterns in classrooms. This paper argues that the huge gape interaction between teachers and students also high expectations on educational outcome and lack of resources, have resulted in the classroom interaction among students and teachers.This research aimed to know the verbal interaction between teacher and students and the dominant of verbal interaction that occur in the learning process at Eleventh grade of State Islamic Senior High School 1 Pekanbaru. This research used qualitative research. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative. This research was held at State Islamic Senior High School 1 Pekanbaru. The techniques of data collection used were observation and interview. The participants of this research were an English teacher and 14 students. The technique of sample selection in this research was purposive sampling. The techniques of data collection used were observation and interview. After getting the data, the researcher used the model of Miles and Huberman, they are data collection, data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion. The results of this research found, from 7 categories of verbal interaction in teacher talk by FIACS the researcher found 6 categories that occur during learning process, such as accept feeling, praise or encourages, asking question, lecturing, giving direction and criticizing or justifying the authority. Only accept to use student’s idea that do not occurred during learning process because the students did not deliver their idea in the learning process. Meanwhile in the students talk by FIACS, from 3 categories only 2 categories that occur, they are students-talk response and silence. There is not found students-talk initiation in the classroom. Then, the researcher found that the teacher more active than the students in the verbal interaction during learning process. The students talked a lot when they gave responses to the teacher’s question. It means, the teacher’s talk more dominant than student’s talk.

Abstract

The title of the research is The Effectiveness of Using Picture Series in Teaching Writing Recount Text for the Seventh Grade Students at Mts. Manbaul Ulum Mojopurogede. The problem of this research is to determine the significance of the effect of using the picture series in teaching writing recount texts for the seventh grade at MTs Manbaul Ulum Mojopurogede. The objective is to find out whether the picture series media is effective in teaching the writing of recount texts for the seventh grade at MTs Manbaul Ulum. The researcher uses the quantitative method by using a quasi-experimental research design. To collect the data, this research uses a pre-test, a treatment, and a post-test as the instruments, and the data was collected, processed, and the results were compared using a statistical test results table using the SPSS 26.0 application. The population and the sample of this research are all students in the seventh grade at MTs Manbaul Ulum in the academic year 2023-2024, of which there are 52 students.The result of this research shows that the use of picture series as a media to teach recount text writing skills can effectively increase students' writing skills, as confirmed by the t-test formula.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out whether or not the use of anagram game effective to improve the students’ vocabulary mastery. The researcher conducted a pre-experimental group design. The population of this research is the seventh-grade students of SMPN 1 Diwek Jombang in academic year 2023-2024. The total number of the first-class is 256 students. The sample in this study was class VII-A SMPN 1 Diwek Jombang, totaling 32 students. Based on the data normality test that has been carried out by the researcher, it shows that sig. 2-tailed in pre-test is 0.200 and post-test is 0.100 meaning that the data is normally distributed, the it will be continued with a simple paired t-test. Based on the testing of hypothesis terms, if the score of t is sig. <0.05, H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. On the simple paired t-test calculation, the data shows sig. (2-tail) 0.000. the data is smaller than 0.05, meaning that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted.
