Abstract

This research aimed to determined the description of leucocyte on transplantation wound by autograph and isograph on local canine. This research used 4 local dogs. Sample animals were fasted 6 hours before surgery, then injected with atropine sulfate subcutaneously as premedication, followed by anaesthesized by ketamine and xylazine intramuscularly. The incision 3x3 cm was made on right chest’s skin and right side of thigh, then transplantation was carried out by autograft and isograph. Blood colection was conducted through chepalica vein for 1 ml on 0,3,6,9, and 12 day after treatment. Data were analyzed using split plot pattern ANOVA. The results showed that the total of leucocyte after skin transplantation by autograph on day 0, 3, 6, 9, and 12 were (7.80±0.57) x 103/mm3, (12.36±0.06) x 103/mm3, (12.98±0.32) x 103/mm3, (15.42 ± 0.11) x 103/mm3, and (17.66±0.45) x 103/mm3, and total of leucocyte after skin transplantation by isograph on day 0, 3, 6, 9, and 12 were (6.80±0.57) x 103/mm3, (9.35±0.36) x 103/mm3, (12.59±4.17) x 103/mm3, (16.11± 1.10) x 103/mm3, and (18.57±0.33) x 103/mm3. Based on the result it can be concluded that total of leucocyte on isograph skin transplantation is higher than autograph skin transplantation. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Key words: leucocyte, autograph, isograph

Abstract

Penelitian  ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh pemberian pakan komersil yang disuplementasi tepung daun jaloh (Salix tetrasperma Roxb) terhadap kadar malondialdehid ikan nila (Oreochromis niloticus) yang diberi cekaman panas. Sampel yang digunakan adalah dua belas ekor ikan nila dengan berat badan 35-40 g. Rancangan yang digunakan adalah rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) pola searah dengan empat perlakuan dan tiga ulangan. Perlakuan P0 (kontrol) diberi cekaman panas (35±1° C) dan pakan tanpa tepung daun jaloh, sedangkan P1, P2, dan P3 diberi cekaman panas (35±1° C)  dan  pakan yang disuplementasikan tepung daun jaloh masing-masing 5, 10, dan 15%. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan analisis varian. Rata-rata kadar malondialdehid P0; P1; P2; dan P3  masing-masing adalah 19,28±4,20; 12,18±2,71; 16,94±1,58; dan 21,28±9,42 µg/g sampel. Pemberian tepung daun jaloh 5-15% tidak berpengaruh (P0,05) terhadap kadar malondialdehid hati ikan nila yang diberi cekaman panas.

Abstract

A 4 month old male pig weighing 18.5 kg has enlarged testes. The mass in the scrotum is enlarge rapidly within 1 month, there is no known castration history of this animal. Pigs have a fairly good appetite, but have persistent diarrhea. Physical and supporting examinations (radiography, ultrasonography, hematology and blood chemistry) were performed. Radiographic results showed radiopaque nodules in the lungs, gas distension in the fundus and intestines that were imaged radiolucently, and radiopaque masses in the testis-scrotum. Based on the results of ultrasonography, it is known that the bladder is surrounded by intestinal organs and some anechoic areas are seen on the sonogram of the testes. Hematological and blood chemistry data obtained showed that the animals had hypochromic anemia, decreased ALP values, and had leukocytosis. The results of the investigations carried out were not clear enough to determine the cause of the enlargement of the pig's testicles, so a surgical approach was carried out with a dubius-infausta prognosis. The results of this approach were adjusted with the results of the previous investigations and concluded that the pigs had malignant testicular neoplasia, scrotal hernia, and testicular cyst.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of Indigofera sp. leaf to increase protein content of rabbit meat (Origtolagus sp). This study used a complete randomized design, consisted of 3 treatments and 3 replications. The samples were nine local male rabbits aged two months. P0 was control group which was given commercial feed, P1 was given 80% commercial feed and 20% Indigofera sp. pellet leaf, and P2 was given 70% commercial feed and 30%  Indigofera sp. pellet leaf. The feeding and drinking was conducted at 07:00 to 08:00 am and at 04:00 to 05:00 pm ad libitum. Protein content was measured using Kjeldahl method after eight weeks of treatments. The data was analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) with SPSS v16.0 for Windows. The results showed that mean value (±SD) of meat protein for P0, P1 and P2 were 18.79+0.81%, 19.40+0.33% and 20.88+0.74%, respectively. We can conclude that the leaves of Indigofera sp. was highly significant (P0,01) in increasing protein level of rabbit meat at a concentration of 30%.

Abstract

This research was aimed to determine the present status of local goats based on the age at UPT experimental animals Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Syiah Kuala University by urine examination. Sample used in this research was urine from 13 local goats (Capra sp.) male and female that collected in the morning. Dipstick urine (Verify TM) was directly dipped into the collected urine and the result were obtained by comparing with a standard color on urine dipstick (Verify TM) with interval 30-120 seconds. The semiquantitatively data obtained using urine dipstick include measurement of leukocyte, nitrite, urobilinogen, protein, pH, blood in the urine, specific gravity, ketones, bilirubin and glucose. From the results obtained age 1 year nitrite 1 goat, blood 1 goat, alkaline pH and density under normal circumstances. At the age of 1-3 years old goats there are leukocytes 4 goats, nitrite 2 goats, proteins 4 goats, bilirubin 1 goat, pH is alkaline and density under normal circumstances. In goats aged 3-4 years there is leukocytes 1 goat, nitrite 2 goats, pH is alkaline and density under normal circumstances.

Abstract

 The purpose of this study is to evaluate the leukocyte profile and bone fracture recovery post scaffold biphasic calcium phosphate/alginate implantation in the sheep’s os tibia. Three sheeps involved in this study and defect is made on each left and right os tiba. Left os tibia as a control while scaffold biphasic calcium phosphate/alginate is implanted on the right os tibia. Blood is collected before and after implantation to be evaluated, while the radigoraph is used to evaluate the bone fracture recovery post biphasic calcium phosphate/alginate implantation. The result shows that scaffold biphasic calcium phosphate/alginate has no significant effect to the leukocytes profile and shows a good result on affecting the recovery process of bone fracture, although it stil not able to increase the recovery periods.

Abstract

This research was done to determine the levels of hemoglobin (Hb) and hematocrit (Ht) of the sumatran elephants captivated at the Elephant Conservation Center (ECC) of Saree, Aceh Besar. In this study blood samples were drawn from 16 sumatran elephants at the ECC using EDTA as an anticoagulant. The levels of Hb and Ht were determined using Sahli and micro-hematocrit methods, respectively. Data was analyzed using t-test. The results showed that Hb concentrations in male and female sumatran elephans were 11.74±0.58 g/dL and 11.84±0.55 g/dL, respectively. Hb levels in sumatran elephants aged 10-30 and 30 years old were 11.87±0.56 g/dL and 11.79±0.50 g/dL, respectively. There was no significant different of Hb levels (P0.05) according to sex and age. Ht values in male sumatran elephants were 38.140.79% and significantly lower (P0.05) than that in female sumatran elephants, 42.001.37%. Similar to that of Hb, Ht values in sumatran elephants aged 10-30 and 30 years old, 40.45±1.21% and 40.22±1.48%, respectively, were not significantly different (P0.05). In conclusion, in the sumatran elephants Hb values were not influenced by sex and age, but Ht values were influenced by sex.

Abstract

 The aim of this research was to observe behavior and gill profile of nile tilaphia (Oreochromis niloticus) induced by density stress. A total of 50 nile tilapia fish with the age of 3-8 months and 80-100 bwwere divided into 4 groups. Group I was control group contained 5 fish, group II,III, and IV contained 10, 15, and 20 fish, respectively. Treatment was performed for 24 hours, and fish behavior was observed every 3 hours. Gillsample was examined by anatomical pathology then tissue samples were collected and fixed in 10% Davidson solution, routinely processed,embedded in paraffin, sectioned at 5 microns, stained with hematoxylin and eosin (HE), and examined by light microscopy. The data wasanalyzed descriptively. Behavior changessuch as swim up to water surface and rapid movement of operculum occur earlier than passivemovement and decreased reflex of fish on group II, III, and IV. The anatomical pathology of nile tilapia gills observed were darker colour ofgills, gill rott, and over mucus.Histopathological result showed that haematoma, necrosis, hyperplasia of primary and secondary lamella, andfusion lamella were observed in gills of nile tilapia induced by density stress.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Key words: histopathology, nile tilapia, gill, density stress

Abstract

The aims of this research was to find out the histopathological finding of II B degree burns healing on rats (Rattus norvegicus) usingambarella leaf (Spondias dulcis F.) and coconut oil. Experimental animals used were 12 male Wistar strain rats,with the age of 2-3 months, and100-200 grams BW. This study used 4 treatment groups, each treatment consisted of 3 rats. The II B degree burns on the backs of rats madeusing electrical solder connected to the metal. Treatment was done 2 times a day for 21 days, P1 (double distilled water), P2 (ambarella leaf anddouble distilled water), P3 (coconut oil), and P4 (ambarella leaf and coconut oil). Skin sampling was performed on day 7, 14, and 21 forhistopathological preparations and then stained with haematoxylin and eosin. Parameters observed such as inflammatory reactions anddistribution of collagen tissue was analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the P4 group contained fewer inflammatory cell infiltrationand more dense collagen tissue than group P1, P2, and P3. It can be concluded that group P4 (ambarella leaf and coconut oil) showshistopathological finding burns healing better than the other treatment groups.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Key words: ambarella leaf, burns, coconut oil, healing

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui nilai pH dan jumlah bakteri asam laktat dan kefir susu kambing yang difermentasi dengan penambahan gula dengan waktu inkubasi yang berbeda. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan petak terbagi (RPT) menggunakan dua perlakuan yaitu penambahan gula dan lama inkubasi.  Susu kambing yang telah ditambahkan starter kefir 3% dibagi menjadi 4 kelompok, yaitu P0 sebagai kontrol, dan PI, PII, PIII sebagai kelompok perlakuan, masing-masing konsentrasi gula 0; 5; 7,5; dan 10%. Setiap perlakuan  diinkubasi selama 12, 16, 20, dan 24 jam pada suhu 37° C. Masing-masing perlakuan dan waktu inkubasi terdiri atas 3 ulangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan gula dan lama inkubasi berpengaruh (P0,05) terhadap nilai pH dan jumlah starter bakteri asam laktat kefir susu kambing. Penambahan gula 10% dengan waktu inkubasi 16 jam dalam proses pembuatan kefir susu kambing menghasilkan jumlah bakteri asam laktat tertinggi yaitu 20,33x108 CFU/g dengan nilai pH 5,17.
