Abstract

This research was aimed to determine the efficacy of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) on healing of burn wound IIB degree in rat (Rattus norvegicus). Experimental animal used were 6 male rats, aged 2-3 months with average weight of 150-250 grams. Rats were divided into 2 treatment groups, each group consist of 3 rats. Burn wound was made on the dorsal of the rats using a solder that has been linked with 2 cm diameter metal and heated for 5 minutes. The metal was placed for 5 seconds on each rat tail to form IIB degree burns. The burn wound were observed and treated according to the treatment group everyday. Group 1 as a negative control was smeared with aquades and group II was given the cucumber. Treatment of burn wound was conducted twice daily in the morning and evening until the diameter of the burn wound closed. Data were analyzed using independent t test. Statistical analysis showed that the healing of burn wound using a cucumber have no significant effect (P0.05) on reducing of burn wound diameter, red wound color and edema, scab formation and epithelization. This result can be concluded that the cucumber could not enhance the healing process of IIB degree wound burn on rats. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Key words: cucumber, burn wound, rat

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui gambaran histopatologi insang ikan nila yang dipelihara dalam temperatur air di atas normal. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan 12 sampel ikan nila yang dibagi atas 4 kelompok. Kelompok I adalah perlakuan kontrol dengan temperat ur air 28° C, sedangkan ikan pada kelompok II, III, dan IV dipelihara masing-masing pada temperatur 30, 32, dan 34° C selama 6 jam, mulai dari jam 09.0015.00  WIB. Kemudian insang sampel difiksasi dalam larutan Davidson 10% selanjutnya dilakukan pembuatan sediaan histologi dengan menggunakan pewarnaan humatoksilin dan eosin (HE). Pengamatan histopatologi dilakukan dengan mikroskop cahaya biokuler, kemudian dilakukan pemotretan dengan fotomikrograf. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil pemeriksaan histopatologi terhadap insangikan nila ditemukan adanya epitelium terlepas, hiperplasia lamella primer, hiperplasia lamella sekunder, nekrosis, dan fusi lamella pada insang ikan nila yang  dipelihara dalam temperatur air di atas normal.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the difference in leukocytes of white rats (Rattus norvegicus) that suffered from incision wounds after being treated with clove leaf ethanol extract (Syzygium aromaticum L). The study used 15 white rats divided into five groups, and each was replicated three times. P1 is a negative control group, namely, rats with incisions made without medication. P2 is a positive control; namely, rats made incisions and were given betadine. P3 is a group of rats with incisions made and given clove leaf ethanol extract at a dose of 0.09 g/head/day for 14 days. P4 is a group of rats with incisions made and given clove leaf ethanol extract at a dose of 0.18 g/head/day for 14 days. P5 is a group of rats with incisions made and given clove leaf ethanol extract at a dose of 0.36 g/head/day for 14 days. After 14 days, the rats were dissected, and their blood was taken for analysis using a hematology analyzer to determine the difference in leukocytes. The results showed that there was a significant difference when presenting the ethanol extract of clove leaves (P0.05). It was concluded that presenting the ethanolic extract of clove leaf increased the differentiation of rats with incisional wounds.

Abstract

This study was aimed to determine the basic consideration of consumers based on halal and economic factors in beef markets (butchery) at Lambaro, Aceh Besar. A survey approach was used in this research through interview of respondents using structured questionnaire. The respondents were selected randomly from consumers purchased beef. The criteria of respondents were Muslim, aged≥ 20 years and purchased beef in the study location. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively. A number of 90 respondents were interviewed in this survey. The results showed that most of the consumers concerned about the halal aspect. Furthermore, a number of consumers stated that they expect for halal certificate available on the butchery. This is intended to increase consumer’s confidence on halal status of beef. Then, the economic factor also influenced the consumer’s choice for halal beef.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of population density of broiler chickens (Gallus sp.) in the cages to the hypertrophy of adrenocortical cells. This study was conducted using complete randomized design (CRD) with 84 broiler chickens. All chickens were divided into 4 groups with 3 replications. Each group consists of 4 chickens (K1), 6 chickens (K2), 8 chickens (K3), and 10 chickens (K4). Chickens were rear from aged of 2 days up to 35 days. The histopathological examination of adrenal glands were performed by collected the adrenal glands of chickens then proceed to histopathological method and stained with haematoxylin eosin (HE). The percentage of hypertrophy of adreno cortical cells was calculated. The results of statistical analysis showed that the population densities of broiler chickens had highly significant effect (P0.01) to the histopathology of adrenal gland. The highest average of hypertrophy was found in K4. To conclude, the highest the dense population of broiler chickens in the cage, the highest the number of hypertrophy of adenocortical cells.Key words: population density, hypertrophy of adrenocortical cell

Abstract

One of the biggest contributors to air pollution is the production of coal fly-ash from the power plant industry. Fly-ash has an immediate impact on human and animal health around the power plant. Many buffaloes are maintained by Nagan Raya people and are often consumed by the community. The buffalo ranchers in this area release their livestock around the 110 MW Steam Power Plant that using low-rank coal. This ranchers’s behavior raises concerns about buffalo health due to exposure to fly ash. This study aims to examine the relationship between knowledge, attitude, and action of buffalo ranchers to the impact of fly ash exposure on the buffalo they maintain. This research used a cross-sectional design. The research time was done in February 2018 by taking 30 samples as respondents in four villages around Nagan Raya Power Plant. The tools used to assess knowledge, attitudes, and actions were using questionnaires. Data were analyzed statistically with the Chi-Square Test through SPSS for Windows version 17.0. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between the knowledge of buffalo ranchers and the impact of fly-ash exposure (P 0.05) while the attitude and actions of buffalo ranchers had a significant relationship with the impact of fly-ash exposure (P 0.05, P 0 , 05). These results conclude that the buffalo ranchers in the villages around the plant have not understood the impact of fly-ash arising from coal in the Nagan Raya power plant. It is expected that the relevant parties to conduct counseling about the impact of fly-ash exposure and the way of good buffalo management.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the effect of bay leaf extract on the growth of Escherichia coli (E. coli) isolated from broiler chicks feces. A total of 5 broiler chicks from Banda Aceh were used in this study. Bay leaf used in this research was from Banda Aceh (Aceh) and Pariaman (West Sumatra). Bacteria identification was then carried out to broiler chicks feces. Once E. coli was identified, subsequently, Kirby Bauer method was done on E. coli using bay leaf extract. Bay leaf extract was diluted with 1% CMC to the concentration of 25%, 50%, and 75%. Then the paper disc was inserted into a test tube containing bay leaf extract with various concentrations. E. coli cultures grown in nutrinet broth (NB) were then swab on the surface of Mueller Hinton agar (MHA) media. Paper discs that had been soaked in various concentrations of bay leaf extract (P1, P2, and P3) and 30 mg chloramphenicol antibiotic as a positive control (P0) were stick to the surface of MHA plates added E. coli. The MHA media were then incubated at 37° C for 24 hours. The results showed that the inhibition zone of bay leaf extracts from Banda Aceh on P0, P1, P2, and P4 were 16 mm, 0 mm, 0 mm, and 0 mm, while the inhibition zone of bay leaf extract obtained from Pariaman were 15.6 mm, 0 mm, 0 mm, and 0 mm, respectively. In conclusion, bay leaf extract do not inhibit the growth of E. coli. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Key words: bay leaf, Escherichia coli, broiler chick

Abstract

This experiment was conducted to study the microscopic structure of tail bones in ovariectomized and non-ovariectomy rats. Fourteen femaleSprague Dawley rats 7 weeks old were randomly divided into 2 groups. The rats in the control group were non-ovariectimized. The rats in groupII were ovariectomized. The samples were then fed with phosphate/calcium diet with ratio of 2 to 1. The rats was sacrificed after 12 weeks. Thetail bone were collected and processed for microscopic examination with trichrome staining. The results showed that structurally theosteoporosis occurred in tail bone of group K2. Its could be concluded that estrogen deficiency condition (ovariectomy) caused osteoporosis intail bones.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Key words: osteoporosis, ovariectomy, tail bone

Abstract

The study aimed at identifying the types of parasites that infect snakehead (C. striata) fish as well as to determine the prevalence of the parasite species. A total of 51 snakehead fish was captured using nets and traps then examined at Parasitology Laboratory of Veterinary Medicine Faculty Syiah Kuala University Banda Aceh. Ectoparasites inspection was done by observation of the outer body organs as well as by making the mucus smear examined under a microscope, while endoparasites inspection was done by observation on the surface of the digestive tract and heart, and also thin and thick boold smear. The study revealed that two types of parasites that infect snakehead fish in irrigation Cot Balee were Pallisentis nagpurensis and Trichodina spp. It also found larvae obtained from the intestinal villi scrapings that have not been identified. A total of 96% snakehead fish infected by P. nagpurensis, 6% infested with Trichodina spp., and 10% infested by unidentified larvae.Key words: parasite, snakehead fish (Channa striata), Palllisentis nagpurensis, Trichodina spp, prevalence

Penelitian ini bertujuan memodelkan interaksi molekuler enzim Sarcoendoplasmic Reticulum Ca+ (SERCA) oleh kurkumin-artemisin dan turunannya secara in silico. Penelitian ini menggunakan 10 senyawa obat yaitu kurkumin, analog 1, analog 2, analog 3, analog 4, artemisin, dihidroartemsin, artemeter, artesunat dan ATP. Senyawa penambatan yang digunakan adalah 2EAS yang didapat dari situs Protein Data Bank (PDB). Senyawa ujinya yaitu kurkumin, analog 1, analog 2, analog 3, analog 4, artemisin, dan turunannya. Semua ditambatkan menggunakan aplikasi ArgusLab 4.0.1. Proses penambatan dilakukan dengan metode ArgusDock. Hasil analisa menunjukkan semua senyawa uji mampu berikatan dengan reseptor SERCA. Berdasarkan penelitian ini disimpulkan bahwa kurkumin dan analognya mampu menghambat  ikatan ATPreseptor secara kompetitif yang ditandai dengan energi Gibs (ΔG) yang lebih besar.
