Abstract

Many people favor quail eggs because they contain good nutrients, and are easy to obtain at an affordable price. This research was conducted to study the effect of temperature and storage time on the quality of quail eggs. The samples in this study were 66 quail eggs which were divided into two groups, the first group (33 eggs) was stored at 27oC, and the second group (33 eggs) was kept at 5oC. This study used a completely randomized design with two factors, temperature and storage time. The observation was carried out on days 1, 7, 13, 19, 25, and 31 with triplicates. The parameters used in this study were air sac height, egg yolk index, white egg index, and Haugh Unit (HU). This study showed that temperature and storage time affected the quality of quail eggs. Eggs stored at 27oC showed a quality decrease indicated by higher air sac position, and lower egg yolk index and egg white index. Eggs kept at 5oC showed no significant degradation. The HU for both groups ranged between 76-81 which implied that the eggs had AA quality even after 31 days of storage.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness and accuracy of progesterone kit as a means of early pregnancy diagnosis in local goat. This study used 10 lactating female goats with weighing in the range of 35-51 kgs and the ages ranging from 2.0 to 2.5 years old. The sampled female goats are subject to estrus synchronization protocol using controlled internal drug release for goats (CIDR-G) inserted intravaginally for ten days and followed with prostaglandin injection on day 8 during progesterone implant insertion. Estrus detection was carried out with the introduction of one buck for 72 hours following the removal of the implants. Early pregnancy diagnosis using milk progesterone kits was carried out on day 17 following services. The accuracy of the kits for early pregnancy diagnosis was subsequently confirmed using USG examination on day 35 following services. The results of this study showed that oestrous response was 80%. Pregnancy diagnosis using progesterone kits and subsequently confirmation using USG were carried out in eight goats. All female goats showed positive results following pregnancy diagnosis using the kits both days 17 and 24 following services. Following confirmation on the pregnancy status using USG, one sampled goat was diagnosed non-pregnant.  It could be concluded that the progesterone kit as can be used as an early pregnancy diagnosis tool in local goats on 17 days following services

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness and accuracy of milk progesterone kit as an early pregnancy diagnosis tool for Etawah cross goat. This study used 9 lactating female goats with weight in the range of 35-51 kgs and the ages ranging from 2 to 2.5 years old. Eight goats were subject to estrous synchronisation protocol using progesterone implant (CIDR-G) followed by prostaglandin administration and one goat was left to show natural estrous. Early pregnancy diagnosis using milk progesterone kits was carried out on day 18 until 22 following services. The accuracy of the kits for early pregnancy diagnosis was subsequently confirmed using ultrasonography (USG) examination on day 35 following services. The results of this study showed that estrous response by synchronization was 50%. Whereas one female goat showed estrous sign naturally and was subject to pregnancy diagnosis procedure using the milk progesterone kits after natural mating. Pregnancy diagnosis using milk progesterone kits and subsequent confirmation using USG was carried out in five goats (4 synchronized females and mated and 1 naturally estrous female and mated naturally). All 5 female goats showed negative results following pregnancy diagnosis using the kits throughout the whole 5 days examinations. While diagnosis of pregnancy as confirmed by USG showed one goat (number 6) positive. It can be concluded that milk progesterone kits on dairy cows are less effective for diagnosing pregnancy on Etawah cross goat. The accuracy of the kits for pregnancy diagnosis of not-pregnant status is 80% after confirmation using USG.Key words: CIDR-G, Ettawah goats, milk progesterone kits, ultrasonography

Abstract

Red Dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) has the potential for the prevention of diseases associated with inflammatory and oxidative processes such as cardiovascular diseases due to the presence of their antioxidant compounds including phenols, flavonoids, tocopherol, ascorbic acid, thiamin, niacin, riboflavin, minerals, betacyanin, -carotene, lycopene, p-coumaric acid, protocatechuic acid, vanillic acid, gallic acid, syringic acid, and p hydroxybenzoic acid. Antioxidant compounds can prevent the atherogenesis process by reducing MDA metabolite products and CD36 expression in artery carotid communis. MDA metabolite products are indicators of lipid peroxidation, while CD36 expression is a scavenger receptor which responsible for the retention and absorption of LDL-Ox in macrophages and endothelial cells. This study aimed to prove the effect of red dragon fruit extract in reducing MDA metabolite products and CD36 expression in artery carotid communis of mice fed a high-fat diet. This research was in vivo experimental study with a randomized post test only control group design. This research used 40 male mice which were divided into five groups, namely negative control K0 (without high fat diet and extract), positive control K1 (high fat diet without extract), P1 (5mg extract/mice/day), P2 (extract 10mg/mice/day), P3 (extract 20mg/mice/day). A high fat diet was given for 56 days. Red dragon fruit extract was given for 28 days. At the end of the study, all mice were euthanized and their artery carotid communis were taken for immunohistochemistry staining. MDA and CD36 expression measurements were carried out using the Immune Reactive Score (IRS), which is the result of multiplying the percentage of immunoreactive cells (A) with the color intensity score (B) of immunoreactive cells.
