Abstract

Lecturers' social competence is one of the most crucial aspects in efforts to improve the quality of education in higher education, especially in the environment of Religious Higher Education, where in addition to being required to have superior and in- depth academic abilities, lecturers must also be able to develop adequate social competence in order to establish effective and harmonious interactions with students, fellow colleagues, and the wider community; in this article, various challenges faced by lecturers in Religious Higher Education in the process of developing social competence are discussed in depth, as well as solutions that can be applied to overcome the obstacles that arise in order to improve the quality of their social competence; this study uses a qualitative approach that allows detailed identification of internal and external factors that influence the development of lecturers' social competence, while providing practical recommendations that are expected to be a reference in supporting the development of sustainable social competence in religious higher education. The results of this study indicate that the development of social competence of lecturers in religious universities faces various significant challenges such as the lack of specific training in social skills, differences in values and cultures that affect interactions between lecturers and students and colleagues, and high academic loads that limit the time and energy of lecturers to develop social aspects. Therefore, strategic solutions that need to be implemented include organizing training and workshops that focus on developing communication skills, conflict management, and leadership.

Abstract

A preliminary study found that qualitative findings revealed a gap between expectations and reality in the transformational leadership of school principals in implementing character education. Principals were not consistently setting a good example for students, teachers, staff, or parents, resulting in suboptimal implementation of character education. This study aims to describe the implementation of character education in the Pancasila Student Profile and analyze the principal’s role in providing ideal influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration. It also identifies the driving and inhibiting factors in the implementation of character education at SDN Kotagede 5. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, with validity tested using credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability. The findings show that character education has been well implemented across learning, school culture, and extracurricular activities, covering six dimensions of the Pancasila Student Profile. The study concludes that the principal’s transformational leadership plays a strategic role in creating a supportive environment, though challenges remain in student discipline and school coordination. Strengthening teacher appreciation, parental involvement, and student mentoring strategies are recommended to improve effectiveness.

Abstract

The Liturgy of the Word serves to strengthen faith, shape congregational identity, and transform congregational life. Meanwhile, preaching, as part of the Liturgy of the Word, has a sacramental dimension and functions to renew the Word of God in the context of people's lives. The purpose of this study is to analyze the competence of church administrators in delivering the Liturgy of the Word and sermons, explore contextual challenges in its implementation in the midst of congregations without priests, and formulate strategies for empowering liturgy and homilies based on local culture as a relevant and sustainable pastoral solution. The approach used in this research is participatory action research. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that in St. Damian Parish, Lau Baleng, there is a competency gap among church administrators in the understanding and animation of the Liturgy of the Word as well as preaching skills. The quality of service, including the abilities to inculturate the liturgy in Karo culture, requires structured training. A pastoral approach in liturgy is key to creating meaningful experiences for the people, especially in a multicultural context.

Abstract

Students’ environmental awareness remains relatively low, whereas Pancasila Education holds the potential to integrate environmental care values into learning. This study aimed to analyze the needs for animated video learning media based on environmentally conscious characters in Pancasila Education. A mixed-methods approach was applied, combining quantitative and qualitative data through observations, interviews, and questionnaires with eighth-grade students and teachers. The analysis focused on pedagogical, technical, cognitive, aesthetic, and evaluative aspects to identify the requirements for effective media development. The findings revealed a strong demand for innovative media that integrates environmental values. Students expressed high interest in learning through animated visual content, which they perceived as engaging and easier to understand. Teachers highlighted the relevance of such media to support character education and facilitate abstract Pancasila concepts. The needs analysis thus provides a comprehensive foundation for designing and developing animated video learning media in subsequent research stages. In conclusion, this study indicates the necessity of animated video media that embodies environmental care values in Pancasila Education. The results serve as an essential initial step for future research in developing valid, practical, and effective instructional media.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of digital competence on the performance of Aparatur Sipil Negara or ASN or civil servants within educational institutions in Siak Regency, Indonesia. Amidst growing demands for digital transformation in public service, technical skills alone are often insufficient without the support of relational competencies such as communication. Grounded in the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), this research examines how interpersonal communication mediates the relationship between digital competence and ASN performance. A quantitative explanatory approach was employed, involving 50 ASN respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires adapted from validated instruments, and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) with SmartPLS 4.0. The results indicate that digital competence has a significant direct effect on ASN performance, while also indirectly enhancing performance through improved interpersonal communication. The mediating role of communication was confirmed as statistically significant, suggesting that digital competence promotes relational fluency, which in turn facilitates better task execution and coordination. These findings offer both theoretical and practical insights, particularly in the context of local public institutions in developing regions. Theoretically, the study expands the TAM framework by incorporating human interaction factors. Practically, it recommends that digital training for ASN should include not only technical modules but also communication skills development. This study concludes that sustainable digital transformation in the public sector requires simultaneous investment in both technology and people—particularly in building communicative capacity as the foundation of effective governance.

Abstract

Tembang writers typically employ words that are not literal but rather words have figurative meanings. One of those is metaphor. This study aims to analyze metaphors in Nyidham Sari songs and reveal their role in conveying cultural values and moral messages in language learning, as well as understand how traditional Javanese songs can serve as an educational tool to transmit knowledge and cultural values to contemporary learners. The data of the research are metaphors within the Nyidham Sari tembang. To analyse the data the researcher identified metaphors to understand the metaphor meaning and the function in the context of the tembang. This study employs the basic theory of the Conceptual Metaphor by Lakoff and Johnson. This study shows that Nyidham Sari tembang uses natural metaphors, journey metaphors, and cultural value metaphors to describe abstract concepts and convey deep messages. The research results indicate that metaphors in Nyidham Sari tembang play an important role in conveying cultural values and moral messages. The result of this study also has implication on language teaching, namely, teaching metaphor, interpretation skill development, teaching material, and critical thinking development. Finally, this study is expected to inspire other researchers who interest to explore metaphors in different cultural.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the impact of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) on the critical thinking skills of eighth-grade students at MTs Alkhairaat Pusat Palu, with a particular focus on earthquake disaster mitigation. This research is important because Indonesia, as a disaster-prone country, requires an effective educational approach to prepare students to face emergency situations, especially earthquakes. PBL can provide relevant and contextual learning experiences. This study used a quasi-experimental approach with unequal control groups. Participants included two classes; class VIII C which was the experimental class and received PBL intervention, while class VIII D served as the control class and received conventional instruction. Data were collected through essay tests administered before and after the intervention. Normality and homogeneity tests were conducted on the data before conducting a paired-sample t-test. The findings showed that students' critical thinking skills in the experimental class improved significantly, reaching a post-test average while the control class was lower. The t-test results indicated that PBL had a significant positive impact on critical thinking skills. Therefore, the PBL model aimed at disaster mitigation has proven effective in improving the development of critical thinking skills in students.

Abstract

Education is a very important activity in preparing children to face their future lives. In fact, the phenomenon of the educational process has existed since the beginning of human life, although its implementation was still very simple in the early stages. This study aims to determine the effect of the Talking Stick learning method on the Islamic Religious Education learning outcomes of eighth-grade students at SMPN Satap 2 Tinondo. This research employed a quantitative approach using an experimental method. The study sample consisted of 50 students selected from the entire eighth-grade population. The instrument used was a questionnaire that had undergone validity and reliability testing. Data analysis was carried out through normality, homogeneity, linearity, and t-tests. The results of this study indicate that the Talking Stick method has a significant effect on learning outcomes. However, field observations show that the success of learning is not solely determined by the method, but also by students’ readiness, activeness in discussions, and teacher support. Therefore, the Talking Stick method has a positive and significant effect, but its effectiveness can be optimized if supported by other collaborative and consistent learning strategies.
