Abstract

Sago forests (Metroxylon sp) in Tulehu Village, Salahutu District, Central Maluku Regency are one of the staple food sources of the Maluku community that have been consumed for generations. Various parts of sago from leaf stalks to trunks have been widely studied. However, research related to sago biomass has not been done much. In this regard, this paper aims to determine the potential biomass and carbon reserves stored in sago forests in Tulehu Village for the purposes of handling climate change. The biomass and carbon content reserves to be determined are sago at the pole and tree levels. The method used was 3 survey routes with 30 measurement plots using purposive sampling, observation, then analysis and estimation of biomass and stored carbon reserves. The calculation results at the pole level of sago obtained a biomass of 27 tons/ha and stored carbon reserves of 14 tons/ha. At the tree level of sago, a biomass of 42 tons/ha and stored carbon reserves of 20 tons/ha were obtained.

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the effect of oral administration of white turmeric extract (Curcuma Zedoaria) at different levels on the slaughter weight of broiler chickens. This research will take place for 3 months, August – October 2023 at the Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Animal Husbandry, Livestock Unit, Pattimura University, Ambon. Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used in this study with 4 replications and 4 treatments, the replications consisted of 6 chickens.  The treatments applied were P0 = feed without giving turmeric extract (control), P1= feed + turmeric extract 0.7 ml/head, P2= feed + turmeric extract 1.4 ml/head, P3= feed + turmeric extract 2.1 ml /tail. The variables observed were feed consumption and slaughter weight.  The results of the research conducted showed that oral administration of white turmeric extract had no significant effect (P > 0.05) on feed consumption and slaughter weight of broiler chickens. However, numerically the administration of white turmeric extract resulted in a higher increase in the slaughter weight of broiler chickens compared to the slaughter weight of broiler chickens without the administration of white turmeric extract.

Abstract

Water spinach (Ipomoea sp) is a plant that is widely consumed by people as a vegetable because it is cheap and easy to cultivate. The main problems in growing water spinach are soil fertility and attack by plant pests and diseases. To increase production from kale farming, farmers generally use inorganic fertilizers such as NPK which in reality can cause environmental pollution. For this reason, various efforts to use organic (environmentally friendly) fertilizers such as fungal and bacterial biofertilizers remain the focus of research to date. Mycorrhizal fungi are known to have quite a lot of benefits for plants, especially in providing phosphate and nitrogen nutrients for host plants. In the forestry sector, it is known that the roots of meranti plants (Shorea sp) and the roots of pine plants (Pinus sp) are natural hosts for the growth and development of mycorrhizal fungi. Therefore, the aim of this research is to determine the effect of endomycorrhizal solution fertilizer from meranti roots on the growth and production of water spinach plants. The results of the research show that the endomycorrhizal biofertilizer solution from meranti roots produces growth and production of water spinach plants that are not significantly different from the NPK fertilizer treatment, so from an environmental safety aspect, it is proposed that it is better to use endomycorrhizal biofertilizer because it is environmentally friendly.

Abstract

This study examines the cultural characteristics of communities living around the Sirimau Protected Forest and their impact on sustainable forest management. The surrounding indigenous communities hold a deeply rooted cultural system that includes language, knowledge systems, social organization, technology, livelihoods, and religious beliefs, all of which influence their approach to natural resource management. One of the core elements is local ecological knowledge—an understanding of the forest’s ecosystem, flora, fauna, and geography that has been passed down through generations. Key social structures, such as the roles of local leaders (raja), community councils (saniri), and forest guardians (kewang), play a significant role in ecological stewardship through customary regulations, including the sasi tradition, which restricts forest use during specific periods to prevent overexploitation. The research emphasizes the importance of involving indigenous communities in forest management decision-making processes, which not only supports ecosystem sustainability but also preserves the cultural identity and values of these communities. Findings from this study advocate for community-based forest management approaches that integrate social, economic, and cultural aspects to achieve optimal environmental sustainability.

Abstract

This purpose of this research is to litter size and mortality of pig farming from different parity sows at the integrated waste management installation site in Ambon City. The research method which is conducted is survey method by doing census technique. Variabels that observed are variable treatment in each respons: a) litter size and b) pre-weaning piglet mortality. The results showed that the parity of different parents had no significant effect on litter size. This indicates that the parity factor does not play an important role in influencing the size of the litter born in the population studied. Piglet mortality rates also showed no significant difference among the parity groups. Thus, the parity of sows in this population had no effect on the survival rate of pre-weaning piglets.
