Abstract

Background: Diarrheal disease is characterized by changes in stool consistency, leading to frequent watery stools, and an increase in defecation frequency of more than three times per day. This condition is common in young children and requires effective management to prevent dehydration and other complications. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) protocol in treating diarrhea in toddlers at the Telagasari Health Center. Methods: This was a descriptive-analytic study with a cross-sectional design, involving 32 respondents. The study utilized the Chi-Square test for statistical analysis to determine the relationship between IMCI implementation and the recovery from diarrhea in toddlers. Results: The implementation of the IMCI protocol at Telagasari Health Center was found to be 84.4% effective. After receiving treatment according to IMCI procedures, 81.3% of the toddlers showed recovery from diarrhea. The statistical analysis revealed a significant effect of IMCI application on diarrhea healing, with a P-value = 0.000 (p ≤ 0.05), indicating that the implementation of IMCI significantly contributes to diarrhea recovery in children under five. Conclusion: The study concluded that the IMCI protocol is effective for treating diarrhea in children under five at the Telagasari Health Center. Continued implementation and training on IMCI are recommended to improve child health outcomes in the community.

Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Stunting is a persistent global public health issue and a key target of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030. Indonesia has the third highest prevalence of stunting among Southeast Asian countries. Maternal knowledge plays a critical role in the prevention and management of stunting during early childhood. Purpose: This study aimed to examine the relationship between social support, social media use, and maternal knowledge regarding stunting. Methods: A quantitative, cross-sectional study was conducted at a Community Health Center in an urban area of Indonesia between May and June 2022. A total of 250 mothers with children under five years of age participated. Data were collected using structured questionnaires, including demographic characteristics, a maternal stunting knowledge scale, the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, and a scale assessing perceived internet use. Data were analyzed using linear regression. Results: The mean maternal age was 29.8 years (SD ± 6.92), and the mean age of children was 25.90 months (SD ± 17.15). Most participants reported high social support (60.4%), had a senior high school education (60.8%), were multiparous (55.6%), and were unemployed (81.2%). The average score for social media usability was 24.65 (SD ± 3.33). A majority of mothers (89%) demonstrated good knowledge of stunting. Maternal education contributed 4.5% to the variance in stunting knowledge. Conclusion: Higher maternal education was significantly associated with greater knowledge of stunting, possibly due to better access to accurate health information. Enhancing maternal education and information access may support national efforts to reduce stunting prevalence.

Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to examine the effect of a virtual education intervention using video on learning intention among undergraduate nursing students. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a two-group pretest-posttest design was conducted involving 60 undergraduate nursing students. Participants were selected using a convenience sampling method and divided equally into intervention and control groups (30 students each). Learning intention was measured using the Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction (ARCS) scale. Data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test to determine differences in learning intention before and after the intervention. Results: A total of 60 students participated, with a mean age of 20 years (SD ± 6.56), and 84% were female. The mean learning intention score in the intervention group increased significantly from 118.63 (SD ± 9.14) before the intervention to 132.77 (SD ± 7.91) after the intervention. The difference was statistically significant (t = 0.000, p < 0.05), indicating a positive impact of the virtual education program using video on students’ motivation and intention to learn. Conclusion: The use of video-based virtual education demonstrates potential as an effective strategy to enhance learning intention among nursing students. Given its promising results, this approach could be integrated into nursing education to support student engagement and motivation. However, future research should adopt more rigorous experimental designs and larger, more diverse samples to validate and generalize these findings.

Abstract

Background: According to the World Health Organization, approximately 450 million people worldwide experience mental health issues, with 14.4% attributed to behavioral contributors and 13.5% categorized as mental health problems (Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, 2018). Adolescents from lower socioeconomic backgrounds are more likely to engage in unhealthy behaviors and demonstrate lower levels of health literacy. This study aims to identify the factors associated with mental health literacy in adolescents, with particular focus on peer pressure and economic inequality. Methods: This quantitative descriptive study employed a cross-sectional design. A total of 539 adolescents aged 10–19 years participated in the study through online questionnaires distributed via smartphones. Instruments used included the Mental Health Literacy–Young Adult Questionnaire, the International Wealth Index (IWI), and the Peer Pressure Scale. Respondents were selected using a convenience sampling technique. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation, Spearman test, independent t-test, and linear regression. Results: The majority of respondents (60.1%) were male and enrolled in junior or senior high school. Bivariate analysis indicated significant associations between mental health literacy and peer pressure, economic disparity, age, gender, and education level (p < 0.05). However, multivariate analysis revealed that only economic disparity and gender remained significantly associated with mental health literacy, while peer pressure, age, and education level did not show linear relationships. Conclusion: Economic inequality and gender are significant factors influencing mental health literacy in adolescents. These findings highlight the need for targeted interventions to reduce socioeconomic disparities and promote gender-sensitive mental health education.
