Abstract

Chitosan, a biodegradable polysaccharide derived from chitin, is emerging as a sustainable, low-cost alternative to perfluorinated membranes (like Nafion®) in Direct Methanol Fuel Cells (DMFCs). However, pristine chitosan membranes suffer from low proton conductivity (~10⁻³ S/cm), excessive methanol crossover, limited thermal and oxidative stability, and poor mechanical strength. To address these challenges, significant attention has focused on reinforcing chitosan matrices with nanofillers—such as nanosilica, titanium dioxide (TiO₂), carbon nanotubes (CNTs), graphene oxide (GO), and sulfur- or phosphorous-doped nanoparticles—to tune hydrophilicity, proton transport pathways, and mechanical integrity.This review evaluates synthesis strategies, nanofiller types, and their concentration effects on key membrane properties. Fabrication techniques center on dispersion of nanofillers into chitosan–acid solutions, casting, drying, and crosslinking with agents like glutaraldehyde or tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS). Characterizations include SEM/TEM imaging for morphology, mechanical testing for tensile strength and elongation, proton conductivity via electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, methanol permeability assays, and thermal/oxidative resilience through TGA and Fenton’s reagent exposure.Findings demonstrate that silica and TiO₂ nanocomposites can elevate proton conductivity to ~10⁻² S/cm, while reducing methanol permeability to the order of 10⁻⁷ cm²/s. Conductive carbon nanofillers (CNTs, GO) introduced interconnected proton channels, further enhancing conductivity, though at potential cost to homogeneity.

Abstract

The TiO2-Montmorillonite (Ti-MMT) composite has been synthesized with the aim of increasing the ability of the TiO2 photocatalyst to degrade blue metal. The TiO2-MMT composite was characterized by FT-IR, XRD and SAA. Titanium dioxide is an important material that has been widely researched by experts. TiO2 has unique electronic and optical properties, so it can be used as a catalyst and in various other applications. This compound has been synthesized using various synthesis methods. This article aims to summarize various methods of TiO2 synthesis, morphology, and crystallization of TiO2 with nanostructures. Research is carried out through literature study or literature review. The review results show that TiO2 can be synthesized via various methods, including hydrothermal, solvothermal, sol-gel, direct oxidation, chemical vapor deposition, electrodeposition, sonochemistry, and microwave-based methods. The most commonly found crystal phase is the anatase phase.

Abstract

Network pharmacology is a new approach to medicine that aims to understand drug interactions with body tissues more specifically. This concept involves a deep understanding of the mechanisms of drug action, drug metabolism, and the influence of drugs on tissue function. In recent years, network pharmacology has become a significant trend in drug development. This approach allows researchers to design drugs that are more effective and have fewer side effects. By understanding in detail how drugs interact with specific tissues, specific and targeted drug development can be undertaken. Network pharmacology also opens the door to the development of more particular and existent therapies. By taking into account individual differences in response to drugs, this approach allows for more effective and safer treatment. This article presents a literature review of network pharmacology as a new approach and trend in medicine. This literature review also explores the latest research and current trends in the world of medicine using a network pharmacology approach.This article shows that tissue pharmacology has great potential in more effective and safer treatments. With a better understanding of drug - tissue interactions, we can develop more targeted therapies and reduce the risk of undesirable side effects.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the ratio of chlorine levels in rice before and after it is cooked using the iodometric method. This research was conducted on June 12 - July 7 2023 at the ITKeSMU Sidrap Chemistry Laboratory. The type of research conducted is laboratory experimental research to investigate certain symptoms or substances through tests and tests with quantitative examination using the iodometric method. Sampling in this study was carried out randomly by taking rice that has a intact shape, is not easily broken, rice has just been milled. The method test and the calculation of the average chlorine content in rice samples before and after cooking. The results showed that there was a large difference between the chlorine content in rice before cooking, which was an average of 127,16% and after cooking, which was an average pf 48,323%

Abstract

Fruits are pointed out as natural sources of antioxidants, playing protective roles against aging, and chronic and degenerative pathologies. In this review it is shown that virtually unknown edible tropical fruits present significantly higher antioxidant activity when compared to temperate fruits considered to be good sources of antioxidantsThe tropical fruits, namely, Psidium Guajava L, Mangifera Indica L, and Carica Papaya L, are tropical fruits that have many benefits for the human body. They are rich in vitamin C, with three times the amount found in oranges, ten times the quantity found in papaya, and thirty times that found in bananas. Papaya is one of the fruit commodities that can be used almost as much. Crystal guava is a tropical fruit that is known to contain a large amount of vitamin A, and can be consumed regularly as a good antioxidant. It has various health benefits, such as antioxidant properties, improving digestive health, helping to lose weight, relieving flu symptoms, maintaining eye health, and nourishing the skin. It is also known that mango is an important source of micronutrients, vitamins, and other phytochemicals. Mango is called mango plants originate from India. The fruit is rich in vitamins A, C, D, and E, and it is also rich in antioxidants. The content of vitamin C is also high. The antioxidant activity test of ethanolic extract from solanum family leaves using methanol is used to reduce inflammation and protect body cells from the effects of free radicals that have the potential to cause various diseases. Further research is needed to better know the content of vitamins and pharmaceutical science natural ingredients with the ultimate goal, fruits that can overcome various health problems.

Abstract

Jelly candy made from watermelon rind and sappan wood is a candy with a soft texture that is processed with the addition of gelatin and low-calorie sugar. Based on the literature search that has been carried out. There has been no research regarding the antioxidant activity of jelly candy from watermelon rind and sappan wood. Him this research aims to determine the effect of varying concentrations of watermelon rind and wood extracts sappan in making formulations as jelly candy, the potential of jelly candy as an antioxidant, and to know the SNI 3574.2-2008 standard which includes water content, ash content, reducing sugar content and the condition aroma and taste of jelly candy. The results of the chemical properties test show that the water content in F3 meets SNI namely 19.891995%, and the ash content shows results that meet SNI, namely at F1 0.028%, F2 0.02905% and F3 0.02985%. Meanwhile, the reduced sugar content also shows results that meet SNI, namely F1 0.00219%, F2 0.00144% and F3 0.00048%. The organoleptic test results on the color indicator are 6.72 (somewhat like), the indicator of the aroma is 6.43 (somewhat like) and the taste indicator is 6.54 (somewhat like) and has met SNI with the condition normal. The results of the antioxidant activity test are in the medium category with an inhibition value of 36%.

Abstract

The increase in population has influenced the rising demand for water, and one way to meet this demand is by utilizing river water. Deli River is one of the rivers that flows through the city of Medan. The development of industries and settlements along the Deli River has affected its water quality due to heavy metal waste, specifically Fe, Pb, and Cu. This is evident from the deterioration of water quality characterized by changes in color and odor. One solution to address this issue is by using rice husk activated carbon as an adsorbent and aloe vera as a biocoagulant. Rice husk contains cellulose which can be converted into carbon and has a carbon content of 48.9%, while aloe vera contains mucilage which is an active coagulant used for water clarification. The principle used in this product is coagulation, which involves mixing chemicals, such as coagulants, with Deli River water followed by the adsorption process, where metal particles accumulate on the surface of the adsorbent. The results obtained showed a decrease in the parameters of Fe, Pb, and Cu metal content successively by 0.0092 mg/liter; 0.0081 mg/liter, and 0.0072 mg/liter. Thus, the filtered water meets the clean water quality standards set by Government Regulation No. 82 of 2001. Based on the existing problems and potentials, this product becomes a smart solution to assist the community, especially those in riverside areas, in water treatment and also addresses the challenges in preparing human resources that are actualized in facing the era 5.0 revolution.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia due to abnormalities in insulin secretion, insulin action or both and is included in the group of non-communicable diseases. In patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, progressive hyperglycemia occurs resulting in insulin deficiency, where insulin deficiency can damage lipoprotein lipase activity and result in lower HDL levels and higher triglyceride levels. High triglyceride levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients result in increased macrophage infiltration into adipose tissue which causes an increase in the number of leukocytes. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between the number of leukocytes and triglyceride levels in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This type of research is a quantitative descriptive laboratory observational approach. The number of samples in this research was 35 samples obtained through techniquespurposive sampling. Based on the results of the Pearson correlation static test analysis to determine the relationship between the number of leukocytes and triglyceride levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus sufferers, the sig value was 0.035, while for thePersonal Correlation namely 0.358 so it was concluded that there was a relationship indicating that there was sufficient correlation between the number of leukocytes and triglyceride levels

Abstract

Body health is an important thing, so many choices of methods for maintaining body fitness are offered. One way is to consume herbal plants that contain antioxidant compounds. Antioxidant compounds can neutralize and prevent damage caused by free radicals in the body. The plant that contains high antioxidant compounds is secang (Caesalpinia sappan L.). In previous research, a test of the antioxidant activity of this plant with an IC50 value of 11.37 ppm was reported, but a test to determine the total flavonoid content of the compound had never been carried out. So, this research is interesting to carry out with the aim of finding out the total flavonoid levels in a serving size of 0.05 grams of secang powder. The method for determining total flavonoid content used is the calorimetry method with AlCl3 reagent as a complex compound forming and quantitative analysis using an Ultraviolet Visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometer. The flavonoid content value obtained was 0.2370% b/b for a serving size of 0.05 grams of sample. These results indicate that the secang sample contains flavonoid compounds which can be useful for increasing the body's immunity.

Abstract

This research aims to identify curcuminoid compounds from white turmeric (Curcuma zedoaria Rosc.) rhizome extract as anti-inflammatory drugs. White turmeric rhizomes contain curcuminoids which can be used as anti-inflammatory. Curcuminoids are yellow polyphenols, insoluble in water and acidic solvents but soluble in dimethyl sulfoxide, acetone and ethanol. It has various benefits such as lowering blood sugar levels, acting as an antioxidant, and having anti-carcinogenic properties. The identification of curcuminoid compounds in white turmeric as potential anti-inflammatory drugs provides a significant contribution to the development of natural drugs for inflammation-related disorders. The research method used is descriptive through literature research, with a focus on exploring the contents and benefits of white turmeric in traditional medicine. This research provides evidence that supports the efficacy of curcuminoids from white turmeric rhizome extract as an anti-inflammatory agent. However, to validate the effectiveness and safety of using white turmeric as an anti-inflammatory drug in humans, further research is needed including pharmacodynamic studies, pharmacokinetics and clinical trials. Apart from that, purification of curcuminoid compounds and research on interactions with other drugs also need to be carried out to strengthen the scientific basis and develop more effective drug formulations.
