Abstract

This research was conducted in order to participate in resolving the problems that occur in UMKM Processed Mina in the coastal areas of Central Java, especially the Sayung area. Many fish processing businesses in the area only pursue profits to help the household economy, considering that their business productivity has not developed/increased, which is likely due to a lack of attention to conscious efforts to carry out or comply with Occupational Health and Safety (K3), such as using personal protective equipment such as hand straps, boots, or in processing fish related to stoves, there are no manual extinguishers for home businesses. K3 attitudes and behaviors for those whose workers are mostly women, are not/may not yet aware of this. Efforts to foster K3 attitudes and behaviors are things that affect economic businesses, especially mina because productivity is increasing. The results of the study are expected to help the local village government to strive to improve their business.

Abstract

Turmeric and tamarind herbal medicineis a medicinal herb in liquid form that is made from turmeric (Curcuma domestica Val.), and tamarind fruit (Tamarindus indica L.) produced by the home industry. Jamu Gendong does not require a license to distribute, but the quality of herbal medicine must be so that it is safe for consumption. The purpose of this study was to determine the presence or absence of microbial contamination in the form of bacteria and molds/hamirs in the preparation of Jamu Gendong Kunyit Asam circulated in Harjosari I Village, Medan Amplas Subdistrict. The samples were taken from four locations: Jalan Garu II, Garu III, Garu IV, and Garu VI. The total plate count (PCA) test was carried out by dilution of stratified samples using Lactose Broth (LB) media, for bacterial tests 10 -1 to 10-5 dilutions, and for fungal tests 10-1 to 10-3 dilutions. The diluted samples were placed in medium and incubated at 45o±1o in an incubator. The bacterial total plate count was performed using Plate Count Agar (PCA) as the medium. It was incubated at 35-37oC for 24 h, and the mold/fungal test used Potato Dekstro Agar (PDA) as media and incubated at 20-25oC for 48 h. For comparison, we used packaging for herbal medicines purchased from supermarkets. Furthermore, the number of bacteria and fungi in the colon was observed and counted. The results showed fungal contamination in the home industry at Jamu Kunyit Asam. It was a sample collected from Garu II, a sample of 86×103. The samples had many colonists that exceeded the regularity set up in BPOM RI No. 32 of 2019 and SNI 19-2879-1992.

Abstract

This research investigates maritime health literacy among cadets, focusing on its alignment with international standards and implications for professional practice in the maritime industry. Using qualitative methods, the study explores cadets' perceptions and experiences regarding health management practices onboard ships. Findings reveal a strong alignment with safety and environmental protocols outlined by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). However, gaps in practical training effectiveness and continual professional development highlight areas for improvement. Cadets express the need for enhanced practical simulations and lifelong learning initiatives to better prepare for health-related challenges at sea. The study also identifies positive perceptions of health promotion policies mandated by the maritime labour convention, underscoring industry commitment to promoting occupational health and safety standards. Recommendations include integrating comprehensive mental health support, fostering collaborative research efforts, and conducting longitudinal studies to assess the sustainability of health literacy interventions. By addressing these recommendations, stakeholders can enhance operational efficiency, promote crew welfare, and sustain a culture of safety within the maritime sector.

Abstract

The prevalence of chronic kidney disease is increasing worldwide and is considered a burden for health care systems and patients. However, there are only a few treatment options, and in most cases, the end-stage of the disease requires renal replacement. Stem cell-based therapy has gained popularity as a cutting-edge strategy in the field of regenerative nephrology. Numerous clinical studies on evaluating stem cells safety and tolerability have been carried out, leading to clinical translation of stem cells for kidney regeneration. This study will focues on progresses of recent clinical trials on stem cell therapy for various kidney diseases, while also highlighting key challenges in clinical translation and future directions in the field of regenerative nephrology.

Abstract

Acne is a common skin problem caused by the accumulation of oil that blocks the hair follicles. Factors contributing to acne include bacterial colonization by Staphylococcus epidermidis and Propionibacterium acnes, increased sebum production, and follicle disturbances. Generally, acne treatment aims to reduce sebum production, address inflammation, decrease bacterial colonization, and improve skin conditions. The commonly used therapies include antibiotics and retinoids, although challenges such as antibiotic resistance and side effects exist. As an alternative, clove (Syzygium aromaticum) contains eugenol, which has antibacterial properties that are effective against the growth of Propionibacterium acnes. A combination of emulsion and gel (emulsisponge) can be a stable and effective formulation for acne treatment. This study aimed to formulate clove leaf oil into an emulsified gel preparation, evaluate the formulation, and test its antibacterial activity. The study began with distillation of clove leaf oil and its formulation into an emulsion gel. Evaluation of the emulsion included organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, particle size, skin irritation, and antibacterial activity tests. The results showed that The emulsified gel was white, aromatic, thick, and homogeneous. The emulsion has pH (4.5-6.5), viscosity (6500-9500 mPa.s), and particle size (8.3-14.1 µm), and remains stable for 12 weeks at room temperature, low temperature, and high temperature, without causing skin irritation. Antibacterial test results indicated that the emulsion exhibited a highly active inhibition zone.

Abstract

Diarrhea can be defined as a condition in which a person defecates with more liquid feces than usual and with a frequency of three or more times in 24 hours. Diarrhea is closely related to the occurrence of stunting cases. Diarrhea generally attacks toddlers because their immune systems are still weak and vulnerable. WHO and UNICEF policies in the treatment of diarrhea are the provision of oralit and zinc, based on research over 20 years. Iron plays a role in various physiological processes of the body, one of which is the immune system. The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between hemoglobin levels and compliance with zinc intake with the incidence of recurrent diarrhea in toddlers at the Jaury Jusuf Putera Makassar Academic Hospital. The research design used was a non-experimental analytical cross-sectional study, namely a study conducted observationally to see the relationship between hemoglobin levels and compliance with zinc intake with the incidence of recurrent diarrhea, without providing treatment to the research subjects. The sample in the study was toddlers who experienced recurrent diarrhea at the Jaury Jusuf Putera Makassar Academic Hospital in March - May 2024 as many as 32 people. The results of the study showed that there was a relationship between hemoglobin levels and the incidence of recurrent diarrhea (p = 0.015). And there was a relationship between compliance with zinc consumption and the incidence of recurrent diarrhea (p = 0.004). It is recommended that health workers provide more education and control over the use of zinc drugs given in the management of diarrhea, as well as educate to maintain normal hemoglobin levels in toddlers. So that it can reduce the prevalence of recurrent diarrhea.
