Abstract

The habituation of reading Asmaul Husna has become an increasingly recognized strategy for strengthening the religious character of elementary school students amidst the challenges of moral degradation in the digital era. This study aims to analyze the implementation and impact of Asmaul Husna reading habituation on the reinforcement of students' religious character in elementary schools. This research employs a systematic literature review method by examining 30 empirical studies published between 2020 and 2026, sourced from accredited national and international journals. The findings reveal that the habituation of reading Asmaul Husna is implemented through various structured activities, including daily routines before learning, integration into Islamic Religious Education (PAI) lessons, and extracurricular religious programs. This habituation significantly contributes to the development of religious character indicators such as discipline, responsibility, honesty, tolerance, and piety. The study also identifies supporting factors, including teacher role modeling, parental involvement, and a conducive school environment, as well as inhibiting factors such as students' diverse backgrounds and limited facilities. The results affirm that Asmaul Husna reading habituation is an effective pedagogical strategy for fostering students' religious character from an early age.

Abstract

This article analyzes the representation of media ideology in the lyrics and music video visuals of Artifical Suicide by Bad Omens through the lens of Louis Althusser’s theory of ideology. Employing a qualitative interpretive approach with Roland Barthes’ semiotic analysis and critical disclosure analysis, this study reads the audio-visual text as a site where mechanisms of interpellation, Ideological State Apparatuses (ISA), and Baudrillard’s hyperreality operate simultaneously. Lyrical analysis demonstrates that the text interpellates listeners directly through rhetorical constructions that represent the internalization of dominant discourse as personal aspiration, most explicitly in the line “if I wanna be great, I don’t wanna be me” as verbalization of misrecognition. Visual analysis identifies the mise-en-scène of isolated space, latent RSA symbolism, the electrocution motif as a simulacrum loop, and gestures of self-violence as the materiality of the ideological process the lyrics describe verbally. The central finding reveals a structural paradox: a text that critiques the commodification of the subject operates entirely within the logic of the cultural industry it critiques, demonstrating that ideology provides no space outside itself from which the subject can stand free.

Abstract

This research is a descriptive qualitative study using a constructivist paradigm, which aims to determine how the process of signification in the song lyrics “Shxtty Game” by Day6 constructs the meaning of motivation and represents the struggles of Generation Z through Roland Barthes’ semiotic analysis. Data were collected through documentation, observation, and contextual analysis of the song lyrics. The analysis employed Roland Barthes’ semiotic theory, which emphasizes the process of meaning-making through three levels: denotation, connotation, and myth. The object of this study is the entire lyrics of “Shxtty Game” by Day6, with each verse analyzed to uncover the symbolic and ideological meanings contained within. The results show that “Shxtty Game” portrays life as an endless game that represents the human struggle to survive amid life’s pressures. Abstract

Waving is often considered a simple gesture, but this is not the case for Vespa riders. This gesture has a deep meaning, as shown in the video “Utamakan Saling Tegur Sapa” on the DDS VVLOG YouTube channel, where Vespa riders' wave to each other as a way of greeting one another on the road. This study uses Roland Barthes' semiotic approach, which reads signs on three levels: denotation, connotation, and myth. The results of the study show that denotatively, waving is a body movement to greet other riders. Connotatively, this gesture carries a message of brotherhood, respect, and togetherness within the Vespa community. Mythically, waving one's hand shapes the image of Vespa riders as a group with a distinctive lifestyle that upholds freedom of expression, uniqueness, and the romanticism of classic culture inherent in the Vespa identity. Therefore, waving one's hand is not only a simple form of greeting but also a medium of nonverbal communication that strengthens solidarity, fosters a sense of togetherness, and reinforces group identity. The contribution of this research lies in enriching the study of nonverbal communication in the context of the Vespa community, which has rarely been researched, while also presenting a novelty in the form of an analysis of the digital representation of Vespa cultural practices on social media.

Abstract

This study analyzes the phenomenon of flexing on social media, which has evolved into a kind of strategic communication tactic, using a luxurious lifestyle for commercial or personal purposes. The main goal of this research is to see how the flexing narrative is shaped through digital platforms and to examine the communication impact on audience behavior, especially Generation Z. Using a qualitative approach and case study method, data was collected from various secondary sources, such as online news reports, journal articles, and research reports related to public figures like Indra Kenz and Doni Salmanan. Content analysis and visual semiotics were used to break down the elements of the narrative being built. The results show that the flexing narrative is like a deliberately staged performance, which can be understood through dramaturgy theory. This narrative creates an eye-catching and impressive “front stage,” but hides a “back stage” that is often linked to manipulative or even illegal practices. The study concludes that flexing narratives are not just about showing off wealth, but also a manipulative communication strategy, putting audiences, especially young people, in a vulnerable position toward harmful consumerist mentalities and scam schemes. These findings highlight the importance of boosting digital literacy for young people or Gen Z so they can distinguish between genuine and manipulative content. The contribution of this research lies in adding to applied communication studies by providing a critical understanding of manipulative digital communication strategies and their impact on young people.

Abstract

This study analyzes the representation of King Magnifico's leadership in the animated film Wish using Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. The film depicts Magnifico's transformation from a charismatic leader to an authoritarian and corrupt leader. A descriptive qualitative method was used by examining visual and narrative signs such as dialogue, costumes, colors, expressions, and symbols of power through Barthes' three levels of meaning, namely denotation, connotation, and myth. The results of the study show Magnifico's character change marked by strong visual attributes, ranging from changes in clothing colors to gestures and scene atmospheres that depict absolute power. Myth analysis reveals that the film legitimizes authoritarian leadership as something natural in social structures, while also criticizing domination without public dialogue. This study contributes to the study of character leadership representation in animated films and expands the application of Barthes' semiotic analysis in revealing the ideological meanings contained in film media.

Abstract

This study examines how the sociopolitical reality of the “17+8 People’s Demands” Movement was constructed in the online media Kompas.com (September 1-6, 2025) following the #IndonesiaGelap action, using Teun A. van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). The results of the study show: (1) In the text dimension, there was a transformation from the us-versus-the-polarization strategy of civil society to the state’s taming of paternalistic discourse, culminating in a quantification strategy; (2) In the social cognition dimension, Kompas.com’s gatekeeping lies between the commodification of celebrity value and the press’s ideological commitment as a watchdog; (3) In the social context dimension, a defense-segmentation strategy was identified among the ruling elite. During the legitimacy crisis, the legislature offered cosmetic procedural compromises to calm the masses, while the executive and security apparatus passively maintained hegemony. This study concludes that although legal and bureaucratic language is reproduced as the state's ideological communication apparatus to tame social unrest, the Kompas.com newsroom has successfully emerged as an arena for discursive negotiation that upholds public accountability within Indonesia's process of cyber-democratization.
