Abstract

Indonesia’s Primary Health Care transformation through the Integrated Primary Care Service (ILP) scheme requires community health workers (kaders) to master technical-clinical and administrative-integrative competencies. However, empowerment programs often evaluate success through aggregate knowledge scores without examining whether knowledge gains are equally transferred into different types of practical competencies. This study evaluates an ILP kader empowerment program at Wara Barat Health Center, Palopo City, by comparing knowledge and practical skill outcomes across four material domains and four skill-test types. A quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design involved 20 kaders in the knowledge test and 50 kaders in the practical skill checklist. Data were analyzed descriptively and through pretest-posttest difference testing. The results showed significant knowledge gains across all domains (p < 0.001), with the highest relative increases in non-communicable disease screening for productive-age and elderly groups (+105.0%) and PWS recording and educational communication (+91.1%). However, practical skill outcomes showed a different pattern. Technical-clinical skills achieved pass rates above 90%, while PWS worksheet recording, the only administrative-integrative skill tested, had the lowest pass rate (84%). These findings indicate that knowledge gains do not automatically translate into practical competence. Administrative-integrative competencies require extended mentoring and pedagogical strategies that differ from those used for single technical skills.

Abstract

This community service program was motivated by several educational problems identified concurrently in Jorong Buluh Kasok, Nagari Tabek, Pariangan District, namely the low achievement of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) among elementary school students due to monotonous evaluation methods, limited mastery of basic Arabic vocabulary among fourth-grade children, suboptimal habituation of Islamic value-based disciplinary character among early childhood (PAUD) students, and the persistence of behaviors with the potential to develop into bullying within the elementary school environment. This program aimed to integratively improve religious understanding, Arabic language competence, disciplinary character, and anti-bullying awareness through four complementary work programs. The implementation method employed a participatory approach, namely a point-accumulation round-based quiz for PAI evaluation and Participatory Action Research (PAR) for the other three programs, comprising problem identification, planning, socialization, action implementation, monitoring, and evaluation using pre-test and post-test instruments. The results showed consistent improvement across all programs: the average PAI evaluation score increased from 65 to 81 (+16 points); Arabic vocabulary mastery scores rose by 32% with 93% active participation; PAUD children's time discipline increased from 30% to 75%; and a Stop Bullying commitment declaration was established and signed by all students. This program demonstrates that participatory, enjoyable, Islamic value-based learning methods effectively and measurably enhance students' cognitive and affective achievements, while affirming the importance of synergy among service-learning students, schools, and parents in realizing a quality, character-based educational environment.

Abstract

Waste in mountain hiking areas is often treated as a purely technical problem, yet it is rooted in weak ecological awareness and a missing moral dimension. On the Mount Sibayak trail via Jaranguda Village, the administrative sanction of deposit forfeiture has not fully succeeded in changing tourists' behavior. This study describes the implementation of ecotheological values in a waste-cleaning program carried out by students of Community Service Program (KKN) Group 1, Dusun IV, Jaranguda Village, UIN Sumatera Utara, in 2026. Using a descriptive qualitative approach through participatory observation and informal interviews, the study finds that students interpreted the clean-up activity as a manifestation of humankind's khalifah (stewardship) mandate to protect nature, rather than merely fulfilling a work program. The action situationally succeeded in triggering collective awareness and pro-environmental participation among other hikers on the trail. Although constrained by challenging terrain and limited equipment, team solidarity and support from the site manager were key success factors. This ecotheological approach proved crucial in complementing administrative regulation, and is therefore recommended for integration into sustainable area management.

Abstract

This community engagement program was initiated in response to the underutilization of water hyacinth by the Maju Jaya Women Farmers Group (KWT Maju Jaya) in Parit Keladi Village as a raw material for economically valuable products. The main challenges faced by the partner group included limited technical knowledge of humic acid production and insufficient understanding of green branding for the development and commercialization of eco-friendly products. The program aimed to introduce fermentation technology using Effective Microorganisms (EM-4) for the production of liquid humic acid and to develop a green brand identity to support product marketing. The implementation methods comprised awareness sessions on the business potential of eco-friendly products, practical training in humic acid production, and training on the development of a green brand identity, with KWT Maju Jaya actively involved as the community partner. Evaluation results demonstrated a substantial improvement in participants’ understanding of humic acid production, increasing from an average of 1.7% before the intervention to 85.4% after the intervention, with an N-Gain score of 0.85, categorized as high. Similarly, participants’ understanding of green branding increased from an average of 0.8% to 86.7%, with an N-Gain score of 0.87, also categorized as high. Overall, the program strengthened the partner group’s production and marketing capacities, contributed to reducing aquatic environmental pollution through the productive utilization of water hyacinth, and created opportunities for additional income generation beyond conventional rice farming activities.
